The mental clarity of post-menopause
Yep--it's real. And I'm trying to enjoy it before the "senior moment" phase kicks in. (Margaret Mead called it post-menopausal zest.) But I've noticed something else. I don't really shake a little with anger when I write my checks to Planned Parenthood, NARAL, etc. these days. I suspect it isn't just due to the complete absence of water retention and associated annoyances. I'm as committed as ever to reproductive rights, but since biology has now made me permanently immune to actual threats to my life from right wing whackjobs, it isn't personal anymore.

Which makes me wonder about Ferraro and other potential McCain backers. No more skin in the game, so they could just care less about what happens to women whose lives McCain and his sociopathic allies still threaten? Or, as the old telephone company bumpersticker put it-- We Don't Care. We Don't Have To.

1. If she were pre-menopausal, she wouldn't have to care.
She could afford to fly out of country, or get a "medically necessary procedure" here. She could do the same for her daughters or granddaughters now. Same thing with the war. Her kids and grandkids won't have to enlist.

2. Good point
Apparently the "hardworking white women" have failed to notice the class barrier here.

4. They now seem to have priorities that reflect goals of power and influence.
There are different priorities in different phases of life?
