Bill Richardson to campaign for Obama in Puerto Rico
CNN:

NEW YORK (CNN) – Former presidential rival turned supporter Bill Richardson will campaign this week for Barack Obama in Puerto Rico, 10 days before the Commonwealth holds its Democratic primary, a Richardson aide tells CNN.

Richardson, the governor of New Mexico and former Cabinet official, is one of the most prominent Hispanic politicians in the nation. He sought the Democratic presidential nomination, but dropped out of the race after a poor showing in the New Hampshire primary.

While Richardson served in President Bill Clinton’s Cabinet, he chose to endorse Obama over Hillary Clinton in late March. Hillary Clinton has performed better than Obama with Hispanic voters, although the latest Gallup tracking poll suggests that the Illinois senator has erased his disadvantage with that key voting bloc.

Richardson will visit the Commonwealth on Thursday.

2. I still don't get Puerto Rico
and why they are allowed to vote in the primary but not the GE. I know they are just a territory and not a state. I know they have their own constitution. I know they don't want to become the 51st state. So why are they voting in this primary again:shrug:

7. Because the Democratic Party decided to allow them a voice in choosing thier nominee.
They can't vote in the GE because they aren't US citizens.

The primary isn't a constitutionally mandated election. It's a private political party election.

13. As US citizens, why can't you vote in the GE? Or can you if you move to a state?

16. When we move to NY, then we get to vote.
Just a joke...

Puerto Rico is not a state. We have elections on statehood, we have governors who have supported statehood, but it seems like the majority of borinquens like being a commonwealth and not having to pay federal income tax. So the majority doesn't vote for statehood.

If PR were a state, we could vote in the Presidential election. But PR is only a commonwealth, so we can't.

Well I say "we" but I live in Illinois, so I vote.

6. Cool
If he's perceived to be successful perhaps he'll get more consideration to be VP, or at least start to pull more of us Latinos into the Obama camp.

12. Richardson rocks!
Bill is my favorite candidate. When I did all the little internet quizzes he and I were political soul-mates. He dropped out early so I went with Obama, and I was thrilled when Richardson endorsed him. He'd make a great VP, or some cabinet level position. He is very experienced, speaks Spanish fluently, and is a loyal dem (despite Hillary's protest that he is a Judas). Glad to see he's getting a prominent role in the campaign.
