Edited on Mon Aug-09-04 09:54 PM by Walt Starr
HIGHER than the total points Keyes even has?

How can anybody take this joke of a campaign seriously? I mean, until he reaches an equilibrium where the margin of Obama's lead is at least EQUAL to the total that Keyes is polling, Every reaction to any question about Keyes to any Democrat should simply be a chuckle followed by the ever popular, "no comment."

Face it, folks, Obama currently leads by 39% and Keyes is only polling at 28%. How more ridiculous can the Illinois GOP be?

Too bad even the right wing media won't help Keyes.

Mike Ditka was their first choice! Gawd I'd love to be a fly on the wall at Illinois state repig HQ. They are a parody of themselves.

3. And that's Keye's highwater mark.
He'll lose ground everytime he opens his mouth. I'm hoping Keye's becomes another poster boy for Republicanism in this election. I think he may not hit 20% in November.

7. He's lower in the polls right now
han when he ran against Barbara Mikulski in 1992. He took 29% in that race.

4. I guess I'm cynical or something...here's what I'm worried about.
Conservatives tend to employ minorities as a mouthpiece for prejudiced views on minorities. Michelle Malkin is about to publish some book trying to justify internment of the Japanese in camps during World War II, Dinesh D'Souza (may his racist ass get shipped back to India for fucking around with our situation here) wrote some book trying to justify racism in the private sphere. I don't know much about Ezola Foster, but I think she did some junk like that too. Anyways, I'm hoping they don't try to use Alan Keyes to pull the same shit to yank Obama's white working and middle class support out from under him with a bunch of hotheaded rhetoric. He may fail, but he'd do social damage in the process, and we don't need any more of that in Illinois.

But the numbers are encouraging so far.

5. As I posted in another thread
the campaign slogan and sign is soooo natural.

"Alan Keyes, twice rejected in his home state
by those that know him best!!!"

6. I heard the dork who headed the committee

that picked Keyes being interviewed by Juan Williams (subbing for Tavis Smiley on the Tavis show). Juan asked him if it wasn't a little hypocritical for Keyes to run when he had lambasted Hillary Clinton for being a "carpetbagger" who moved to NY so she could run for the U.S. senate there.

The guy (forgot his name) trotted out this pathetically flimsy argument, saying something about how Hillary selected New York, whereas Maryland resident Keyes was drafted to run in Illinois. The distinction was way too subtle for me.

He also said they selected Keyes and expanded the search to be nationwide because the Democrats had made Obama a national figure by having him speak at the convention, and the Republicans wanted to make sure a black guy would be elected Senator. (Hey, score one for affirmative action!)

He's hoping to see a Lincoln-Douglas style debate, he says, between Obama and Keyes, so that these two "eloquent" (new code word replacing "articulate") intellectuals can present their platforms to the people of Illinois. I say to hell with that. Why should Obama allow a jerk like Keyes on the stage with him?

It's so much fun to see these idiots grasping at straws and squandering resources on a race they have no chance of winning.
