As an Obama supporter, I have to say
It's time for him to make some room for specifics in his speeches. It's true that he can be considered light on foreign policy. It's also true that he's demonstrated that he can whip that lame duck McCain on actual knowledge of foreign policy.

1. His specifics are on the campaign trail, website, etc. Victory speeches are about victory now
and later.

2. Unfortunately, he is having to avoid sounding like Hillary is irrelevant, a
guy on CNN just said that. Hillary staying in at this point is stopping him from really going on the attack on the stump.

3. "Me too" BO is NOT QUALIFIED to take on the daunting task of being President..........
of our ruined nation. BO is 'light' in ALL categories that are the MOST IMPORTANT PRESSING issues to the vast majority of voters.

10. Self Coronations don't count; NO ONE has won yet.
The race continues UNTIL it is finished; perhaps even the Florida and Michigan voters might have their votes count.

5. Lots of time for that
He ought to be introducing himself to the country right now, letting people get comfortable with him, dispelling the stupid Muslim myths. If Hillary would stop using all that garbage against him, he'd be making a lot more progress. I understand he did a great interview on CNN about foreign policy, that's important too.

If he gives too many "smart" speeches, they'll just say he's an elitist anyway.

21. His entire speech tonight
Edited on Wed May-21-08 12:48 AM by woolldog
consisted in him defining what he meant by "change."

He even spelled it out by saying Change is ....(explaining his take on issue and differentiating it from McCain) ; Change is...... Change is.....Change is.

He did that over and over and touched on issues from economy, taxes, health care etc. I'm sure the speech will be posted in teh political videos sectio if you're interested. edit: Ah here it is! http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x135296

There are also the very detailed position papers on his website and you can work your way through those if you're a details kind of person.

14. We are the people we are waiting for! Take a chance on your own aspirations!
...its all scripted by Axelrod in this Hope+Change (TM) ad campaign that is a rerun of his ad campaign for Deval Patrick's campaign for Mass. governor. It appeals to the voter who votes according to what the corporate-consolidated media is selling as "cool" (such as Bu$h over Gore, over Kerry) and who falls for slogans versus competence. Obama was bored after one year in the Senate. His is a "rock star"--he'll hire the expertise, just like he hired the Harvard election expert to challenge the nomination papers of all of his opponents when he first ran for public office. He ran without opposition! That's change he could take to the bank!

Of course, the voters of Mass. weren't going to be burned twice (Patrick is a nice man but his experience as a deputy attorney in the Clinton Admin wasn't enough to enable him to be effective as a governor, and heck, "change" can be whatever you want it to be!) and they gave Hillary a big victory in spite of Kennedy and Kerry. The college students of Boston showed they have critical thinking ability and voted for Hillary.

Obama claims that his living in Indonesia for four years as a child gives him unique qualifications to be President. In his book he said he was fluent in Indonesian after 6 months although his teachers revealed that he didn't have much comprehension of it during his stay there. Just another little revision in his favor:

16. He does in his stump speeches.
When he is in smaller settings at town halls he goes into lots of specifics and takes questions from the audience. The victory speeches don't though, why should they?
