Former Clinton supporter on why this should end
I just read an article in the NY Times, and it scared me. It raised an important issue regarding the role of race in this election.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/21/us/politics/21clinton.html?ref=politics

"Mrs. Clinton has disagreed with suggestions, made directly to her by a few friends recently, that her continued candidacy was deepening splits within the Democratic Party and damaging Senator Barack Obama’s chances of emerging as a formidable nominee. She has also disputed the notion that, by staying in, she was unintentionally fostering a racial divide with white voters in some states overwhelmingly supporting her."

I think this last point is one to really be concerned about. The longer she stays in, she is gathering "evidence" of her stronger support from predominantly white voter groups (in states where a Dem is going to have a hard time anyway). It provides ammunition for her argument of electability, but damages the party and also damages Obama's chances. People are gullible and easily swayed. I don't like this at all. All along I just wanted everyone to have a chance to vote, but now I see the problem with that.

And the saddest thing is... it is too late. She's not bowing out now, until, as Bill once said, the last dog dies. Even if that dog is our Blue Dog.

1. Why do you think she is pulling this racist shit?
She knows she is hurting Obama, and it is truly disgusting to watch. The Clinton's make me physically ill now when I see them, knowing what they are doing.

3. I don't believe Hillary is a racist -- not at all.
Any racist innuendoes are being used for political gain.

18. I don't see how exploiting racism for political gain absolves her of racism.

4. I used to not think so but now, it is so obvious what is going
on. No wonder they got married in the first place - the matchup of the two biggest egos on the planet.

21. Yes and we are seeing yet another drama of the "marriage of
egos" playing out to the detriment of the Democratic Party: SHE has to be President because HE was President. It's a personal battle with her. Party and Country be damned.

13. I do NOT believe the Clintons are racists. Not one bit.
I *do* believe, however, that they don't seem to give a shit about anything but their own political fortunes, they've tossed principle after principle overboard, and it's depressing as all get-out to watch.

8. hilllary is whatever she has to be to fuck up this election.
She doesn't care if she's branded a racist, a corporate whore, liar, etc. She is like a fucking robot. She has no conscience. Why anyone would want this humanoid to be in the White House is beyond me. She is being propped up by other humanoids.

6. She doesn't scare me. She offends me.
As a Black person, I will never forget what Hillary has done in the realm of race relations to me, to my daughters and to everyone else. She is disgusting.

12. I'm right there alongside you, 'Cat.
This is hateful crap I've confronted all my life, in my family, at work, at play, and at school. The Clinton campaign has done enormous damage. I cannot even begin to pretend to see it from another's eyeballs ... but what I see from my own is very clear. And ugly.

:pals: :hi:

9. Did you notice that 2012 is mentioned?
"But amassing a strong popular vote, and going out on some high notes, would help Mrs. Clinton emerge from the long nomination battle on better footing, aides say. And making herself an appealing vice-presidential prospect — or setting herself up to run again in 2012, if Mr. Obama should lose, or perhaps 2016 — is not altogether out of the question."

The narcissistic moron is bent on her prospects for 2012 - damn what it does to the party, party unity, or the NOMINEE now.

Nope. It's ALL ABOUT HILLARY - and nothing else. Selfish ass.

10. I have been offended by the Clintons since the "First black President" bullshit.
I'm not sure who coined it but they sure as hell wore it proudly when it suited them. Utterly disgusting, not to mention self- fucking-centered. And now all, all this "hard-working white base" babble. Enough! What fucking color are you today and why the fuck should I care? I see Obama. I see the future, not his color. FUCK the Clintons.

11. Pretty ironic if you were to believe what she thought about the...
southern working class whites in 1995: "Screw 'Em"

"Screw 'em," she told her husband. "You don't owe them a thing, Bill. They're doing nothing for you; you don't have to do anything for them."

14. it also validates those who vote based on race
because when there is someone out there prominently stating it as a valid consideration, there is less shame for some people in acting on such prejudiced voting.

16. No I don't think it's racism either
It's all about them and what they want.

I understand not giving up, I appreciate that but not at the expense of the rest of the party.

17. I don't think it's racism on her part...
but I do think her stance is encouraging to people harboring latent racism. She accepts the divisions because they bode well for her politically, but in doing so whether she realizes it or not, she reinforces them.

23. Why are you people blaming Hillary?
If Obama can't get the white working class vote in most states, then blame Obama not his opponent.

I knocked on enough doors in several states to know that he did not connect with many of these people. They could not relate to him and his message. They are meat and potato folk who want specifics, not just lofty talk. Many were turned off by his huge rallies where he recited platitudes, but was short on substance.

Yes, undoubtedly there are some people who will never vote for him due to his race. Then again, there are some others who will never vote for a woman.

So, enough with this meme of Hillary being a racist!! That's pure B.S.
