Hillary Wants a Convention Fight???
Edited on Wed May-21-08 01:41 PM by JMDEM
I am shocked and dismayed today to see the number of Hillary posters today saying they WANT this fight to go all the way to the convention. Everyone knows what this would mean -- we would lose the GE, regardless of who the candidate is. But they don't seem to care.

Now, I may have looked at an unrepresentative sample of posts. I was thinking of running a poll, but that would not work at all because who knows who would really vote for what. Maybe Obama supporters would pretend they are Hillary supporters and vote for a convention fight to make Hillary supporters look bad. Maybe Hillary supporters who want a convention fight would vote that they didn't want one to make themselves look good. Who knows.

But it still shocks me that this attitude apparently exists so strongly. Maybe I shouldn't be shocked. Maybe the passions are running that high right now.

As Obama has a disproportionate number of black supporters, Hillary has a disproportionate number of female supporters. Don't you realize what a McCain Presidency would do to the Women's Rights Movement? Like set it back about 40 years. I don't get it.

1. If she takes it to the Convention, she will be handed her loss on the first and only vote.
She will spare herself the embarrassment and drop before then.

28. first vote is for show.
Now that they limit time on state introductions. (The great state of Alabama blah, blah, blah, and so on.) The first ballet has unofficially become kind of ceremonial. Where native sons and famous people from the given state get some votes for president. Non of it serious, but it does go on the official record. Then there will be the obligatory demand for a recount. This is when the real vote happens. Barack Obama should have it rapped up when this vote happens. The individual states call out what there tallies are. Example: "The State of Alabama has x amount of votes for Obama, and Y amount of votes for Clinton." Each state will call out their votes like that. Like I say Obama should have the votes at this point. Then the third vote; There will be a procedural call for a real vote. Most likely by the Clinton camp, but it could be by the Obama camp as a courtesy to Clinton. This is where all the delegates and super-delegates actually vote on pieces of paper. put them in boxes at their given states, and the totals are counted. After this count it is official. If there were three candidates in the race. The rules state that some one has to have a majority of the delegates. This is where brokering delegate would come into play. It's not a factor at this convention.

8. I think there are 3 or 4 of us posting about wanting her to take it to the convention. If that
few gets you in a tizzy, you might not want to look at the fact that she got many millions of primary votes.

it would throw me into a tizzy too. Fortunately, I know she can't.

14. um. I am relaxed. Did you see anything that I wrote to indicate
differently? Nope. I've said repeatedly that I have no problem with Hill staying in until the last vote is cast or until Obama has the delegates needed to make him the presumptive nominee. I don't have a problem with her being vp. And I don't think she's doing permanent damage to our chances in November- though I do think she's flirting with it.

Try not to jump to conclusions.
