Poll question: Is It Good for the Democratic Party for Hillary Clinton to Continue Fighting Until the Convention?
This is a very, very fair question. It is an important question because today Senator Clinton has signaled that she is willing to carry her campaign all the way to the Democratic National Convention in August. That will leave the nominee with little more than eight weeks to unite, to put together a nation wide campaign which requires a lot from campaign literature to staffing and advertising and more.

Is it a good idea for her to wage her fight all the way into the Convention? Will this help the Democratic Party's chances for taking back the White House.

It's a very fair question. And it needs to be asked.

1. Easy question. No it would not be
If enough SD's haven't gone over to Obama by June 3rd, I figure Clinton has a week at most to make her best case to the remaining undeclared SD's for why she should be the nominee. I want SD's to end this thing by June 10th at the latest.

7. I honestly believe that if this goes one day after June 3rd we will lose in November.
I say "we" because it is all of us who will lose.

9. Nah. If the Clinton campaign announced that they planned to then consult with SD's
as soon as the last votes were cast (assuming no candidate yet had the hard majority needed to formally declare victory) and if that process was very short and resulted in a gracious concession from Clinton, our Party would have time to heal and move forward to victory.

3. Of course, not. But what good is a Democratic Party if the Clintons
aren't running it? :sarcasm: This is by definition what a "scorched earth policy" is. If Hillary can't win, then just destroy the Dem party.

4. It don't hurt. And there is that whole "freedom and vigorous democracy" thing
I'm not happy with her choices, but I don't think she's harming our chances.

5. I'm so peturbed, I can barely see straight these days....
In addition, I woke up this morning and I was still 1/2 Black. I don't know what I'm gonna do about it....but it appears that this is not sitting well with American Democrats who work really, really hard. How do I know? The media and Hillary Clinton keeps telling me about this problem that folks like me have every single fucking day, over and over again.

8. It is seriously diminishing the status of one of the party giants, HRC, in the eyes of
the party base. How can that be good?

11. I would fully expect the party leaders to force her to end it
once Obama reaches 2026. He will be the nominee at that point and there is no point for her to continue....unless she really wants to damage herself permanently.

She has every right to until rules are changed.

The party is not going to be divided. Don't believe the hype. Obama will win the nomination and true democrats will rally around him. Even H. Clinton has said that.

17. It won't happen.
A couple of things:

First, we need to focus on what she really said. Let's look.

"In an interview with The Associated Press, Clinton said she is willing to take her fight to seat Florida and Michigan delegates to the convention if the two states want to go that far.

"Asked whether she would support the states if they appeal an unfavorable rules committee decision to the convention floor, the former first lady replied:

" 'Yes I will. I will, because I feel very strongly about this.'

" 'I will consult with Floridians and the voters in Michigan because it's really their voices that are being ignored and their votes that are being discounted, and I'll support whatever the elected officials and the voters in those two states want to do.' ...."

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080521/ap_on_el_pr/democrats_florida

That is, of course, the type of statement that one makes before attending a meeting of the party's Rules & Bylaws Committee. She would not be expected to say anything otherwise.

Second, something that will be being reported soon on the corporate media, as it is beginning to leak, is that even people who have backed the Clinton campaign are saying to her top advisers that they have come to a general agreement, and if the Clinton camp rejects it, the party leaders will have the super delegates put the contest well beyond her reach.

The contest should conclude at the end of the first week in June, and at most, the beginning of the second week. Hillary Clinton is fully aware of this, and her top people know it. Very few of them are urging her to fight on. She will not destroy her legacy by following such advice.

It's just plain wrong to say that we're strengthening each other by throwing a bunch of insults and vicious attacks at each other.

Saying that is like someone publishing an article about you accusing you of being a bunch of horrible things like a rapist and then saying to you "hey I'm just trying to make more people like you".
