Barack to visit grandfather’s grave at a Hawaii military cemetery.

This will make for a fascinating political and cultural moment:

To underline his own family's military pedigree, Obama plans a trip in coming weeks to the Punchbowl National Cemetery in Hawaii, where his grandfather, who served in World War II, is buried.

P.S. I hadn't known Obama's great-grandfather was named Ralph Waldo Emerson (Dunham). That seems fitting, although apparently Mr. Dunham didn't much care for the name.

3. Such a wonderful picture - they both seem so happy
And I think Barack inherited his long angular facial shape from his grandfather.

29. The smart way for him to approach this would be to admit...
...that he hasn't visited as much as he should have (family, career, distance, etc.). But that with having spoken so much of him lately, he felt compelled to pay his respects.

And FYI, I think that's actually probably the truth.

42. The smart way to approach this is to avoid it alltogether. Too risky. And it stink of political
posturing. This coming from an Obama supporter.

13. Not really
In the summer, it is hot, humid and with the predictable two O'Clock showers....

And I mean HOT AND HUMID... people in north country go to the mall to escape the cold, in hawaii people go to the mall to escape the humidity and the heat

humidity

Then the trade winds kick in and it cools off a bit. But yes, for those hours it is hot and humid.

I am definitely going to see what favors I can call in for a meet and greet. I'm assuming there will be a campaign event or two. Hawaii was only a 4 point Kerry win in 2004.
