Mccain hosts 3 veep candidates
The McCain camp says it's purely coincidental, but three of the guests scheduled to drop by the Republican candidate's Arizona home over the Memorial Day weekend just happen to be on the short list of vice presidential contenders.

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will join the McCains and several other couples over the weekend for a barbecue, one of McCain's favorite pastimes.

With the Democratic nomination race possible winding to a close, focus will soon return to McCain, who has said last month that he search for a running mate was in the "embryonic stages."

A top aide told the AP yesterday that vetting possible veeps is not on the agenda."It's purely social," said Mark Salter, a senior adviser to McCain.

Salter said 10 couples in all were invited, adding that McCain often hosts friends and political acquaintances at his compound.

Of those three, Jindal scares me most. He is the Republican Obama. I'm surprised they want to bring him out so early though. I thought they'd let him ripen til 12 or 16. He just got elected and hasn't gotten a chance to turn Louisiana around yet (if he can). 77% approval rating.

I like the man. Don't agree with a lot of his stances (very conservative socially) but he is a likable guy.

1. Christ. Yeah right. The pc way to put it... he's a bachelor. The GOP will kill that idea.

12. The poster is talking about Charlie Crist
Who is widely rumored to be an "in the closet" gay man. Chris Matthews described him as a "bachelor" today as the reason that the GOP won't accept him.

Crist has denied being gay, although there are plenty of people in Tallahassee who say they know otherwise.

2. I wonder if Romney will use his "bling bling" line on Jindal?

5. I guess someone other than Dick Cheney to put the shortlist together
otherwise he would have been the only person on it.

6. McCain's choice
Isusteel, you obviously know what you're talking about. Until Katrina struck I lived in Louisiana (New Orleans) a long time. I was an early Bobby Jindal supporter before he was elected to Congress. Yes, he is in the Republican Party but he is in fact very much like Obama. Most of the Democrats in Louisiana were obvious crooks: think Gov. Edwards, currently in the Fed Pen and Congressman Jefferson, who should be in a Fed Pen. No sane person would vote only by party in Louisiana.

Bobby would not be an asset to McCain because he has not yet 'turned Louisiana around.'He's in fact unseasoned at governing, needs more experience. I do hope he will be able to help Louisiana for the sake of my friends who live there.

8. These are all bad picks. Tom Ridge scares me the most - Colin Powell as well.

11. Powell may surprise us.
I once thought it unlikely, but Powell may be playing Kissinger to Obama's Reagan. We'll never accept him, but the senior statesman may just be throwing critical foreign policy advice in our candidate's direction.

10. This has to be the ugliest episode of "Dancing with the Stars" ever.
Not one of them is fit to fill Dick Cheney's codpiece.
