Love is in the air!

I mean, every time McCain starts to say something that's a little
bit in support of his REAL friend, John Kerry, the next day we
see some sort of over the top Bushco support thing.

Maybe they have something on his wife... or they have threatened
his daughter with Anthrax or something.

This happens every time he steps a little bit out of line.

It might have something to do with McCain's debriefing when he was released as a POW. The good Senator has kept it classified, even after some family members of POW's that were with McCain, wanted to see if there was anything that might point to how their loved ones died.

And let us not forget that in his book, McCain admitted to signing a document that said he had committed war crimes by bombing the people of North Vietnam. So what could McCain be trying to keep secret, that
a president would have unlimited access to?

but I, like most of America, am ready to forgive and forget anything
and everything (OK, almost) that happened in that war. POW's kept
in the most inhumane conditions signing documents? Who really cares.
Maybe the Rethuglican base cares enough... but the worst that happens
to McCain is that he doesn't make it back to the Senate. He's gotta
be thinking that his chance to be President is now zero...

well, almost zero. His only chance is if Bush wins this year and
he gets the Rethuglican nomination in 4 years... maybe that's what
they are offering him... expose your complete Vietnam POW record
if you support Kerry, endorsement of the Bushistas if you play
ball... could be.

But he has lost all credibility with me, I'll never vote for him.
Plus, I can't believe that the bushistas would even THINK of running
McCain in 4 years, that just won't happen. There's Jeb...

That has been instrumental in putting into place bills that keep families of MIA's from getting any information about what may have happened to them.

Bills such as the Missing Service Personnel Act, which your "hero" helped to gut. This bill in its original form would have compelled the Pentagon to deploy more resources with greater speed to locate and rescue missing men. The original act called for criminal penalties for anyone, who destroyed, covered up, or withheld from families any information about a missing man. McCain erased this part of the law, at the time he said the penalties would have a chilling effect on the
Pentagon's ability to recruit personnel for it's POW/MIA office.

The man is no hero in my book, any man who kisses the ass of a man who labeled his wife a drug addict, and allowed false statements to be made about his adopted daughter, is far from being a hero. A man who will not defend his own family is a COWARD, not a hero.

McCain is a man who spent 5 1/2 years in the Hanoi Hilton. They offered to release him when they found out his father was an admiral, but he refused. How many of us would have done that, no less survived year after year of pure hell?

The man is not a coward. But for some incredibly obscure reason, he's sold his soul. I don't get it. I just don't get it.

When he was being held as a POW he wasn't a coward, maybe, but when a man does not defend his family, and then shows support for the very same people who attacked his family, that is a coward, that is a man who is afraid of something, that is a man who I don't want to depend on to make the right decisions to help me in defending my family.

You see in my simple world, I don't support someone who says things about my family, I tend to either ignore them or I punch them in the face, but I sure as hell am not going to stump for them.

In my opinion this is like the Sioux saying that General Custer wasn't that bad of a guy, after Wounded Knee. Granted it's a little
extreme but I think you understand what I'm trying to say.

And both parties like to use him...the Repubs need him in Florida..
& he is featured in Kerry ads, & is mentioned by Dems running for office: Kerry, Edwards, Lieberman, etc.

What you do not get is that McCain is a politician who is his own man...he says what he wants, goes where he wants, & does what he thinks is right. You can disagree with him, but he will not run a poll to see if it is the right thing to do or say. He has not been castrated by the spin doctors.

And that is the reason polls showed Kerry gaining 14 points with McCain as Veep.

McCain will win reelection to the Senate by a comfortable margin, & then he will work with his friend, John Kerry, when he is Prez & Chimp loses.

And then the Freepers can hate him even more, & Dems can obsess over whether he is helping Kerry enough.

And he will be even more popular, because he does not dance to anyone else s tune, but his own. He is a rare bird among pols...that is why he frustrates so many, & will continue to do so.

It might have been here on DU, I can't remember. The theory was that because Bush cannot publicly dump on McCain - it would antagonize his more moderate supporters - that McCain's role in the Bush campaign is to call Bush out when the GOP does something outrageous.

McCain has worked alongside Kerry for years. Kerry stood up for McCain when he was getting smeared by the same group of Vietnam vets who are on TV now for Bush. McCain knows that Kerry would be 100X a better president than W.

So McCain becomes part of the GOP campaign, Bush can't get rid of him and McCain won't leave. But when they start using Rovian tactics, like the swiftboat captains, McCain speaks right up and demands that Bush denounce it. This blunts the only weapon the GOP has to run on, personal attacks. McCain quietly but surely helps an honorable man into the presidency and ushers out the assholes who pulled the dirty tricks on him in SC. All the while being a loyal GOP partisan.

Some think that the "VP" meetings Kerry and McCain had were really to discuss this role for McCain. It's a win-win for all involved, including us, except for the Bushies.

I think it is a beautiful idea . . . and we are already seeing it in action with this commercial from the swiftboat captains.

My hope is McCain keeps it up.

So, they get a shot of Bush hugging McCain, and Bush kissing a baby... I look at photos like that and think "look at that jerk hugging that other guy" and "look at that jerk kissing that baby." As hard as they might try, they can't turn farce into sincerity.
