Hillary's Top Fundraising Official: There's "Risk" Of Obama Loss If She Isn't Invited To Be Veep
This sounds so threatening to me, and I'm sure that's done intentionally.

Hillary's Top Fundraising Official Says There's "Risk" Of Obama Loss If She Isn't Invited To Be Veep
By Greg Sargent - May 23, 2008, 11:17AM

In a move that could foreshadow a public push from the Hillary forces to get Barack Obama to invite her on the ticket, Hillary's top campaign fundraising official said in an interview that there's a "risk" that Hillary's political and financial supporters won't get behind Obama in time for him to win in November if she's passed over for the veep slot.

The fundraiser, businessman Hassan Nemazee, is Hillary's leading finance chair and one of the most influential money men in the party. He's the first prominent Hillary campaign official to raise the possiblity of an Obama loss should she not be invited on the ticket, and his comments suggests that this argument could emerge as central to any Clinton camp push to make her veep.

"There's a desire on the part of the party to come together under any circumstances, and Hillary and her supporters will do everything in their power to help Obama win, should he become the nominee, whether or not she's on the ticket," Nemazee said to me this morning.

"But there's a risk that if she isn't invited on the ticket, Hillary's political and financial supporters may not feel compelled to be as integrated and involved in the Obama campaign in order to provide the maximum support that he'll need to prevail in November."

4. Financially, it's a less than compelling argument. Just the fact that
this was said and is being said is sort of disturbing. Probably normal, but I'm just getting tired of this freak show.

16. I understand - but this guy is a big Hillary fundraiser...
...and he's threatening Obama's fundraising ability?

It's the irony.

Blackmail now to get her on the ticket.

5. I'm confident Obama will choose an actual Democrat for his running mate
Or at least one that doesn't use blackmail to get what she wants.

Hillary's top fundraising official needs to shut the.. hell up.

6. Fuck them. We'll take our chances without Hillary.
If Obama caves and gives her the VP spot, he will have doomed himself and be forever tied to the Clintons and the past. No thanks.

12. Obama has done fine WITHOUT Clinton's fundraisers involved...
Clinton, on the other hand, has not been served well by them otherwise she would not be deeply in DEBT. Usually when one threatens, one has something to threaten with, not in this case it seems.

13. As a group, Hillary's top donors gave
$24 million to Democratic candidates and committees over the last 10 years.

Maybe they need to stop making threats linked to Obama's fundraising and concentrate on paying off her $19 million in vendor debt and her $11 million personal loan.

19. Is this all just a big bluff?
I can't imagine why Hillary would want to be VP in the first place (she could become the "lion of the Senate" to replace Kennedy), or why these rumors are being bandied about right now anyway--except for one reason: to make Obama look bad if he doesn't ask her and start an intra-party fight that would ruin election chances in the fall.

Bullying Obama about the VP spot--publicly--seems intended to make him look either (a) weak if he asks her or (b) mean and egotistical if he doesn't.

I call the bluff on this one. But it puts him in a no-win position. Unless, of course, he can bully her into saying publicly she does not want or will not accept the position.

20. So she really DOES want the VP slot! I say no with a "Capital NO!"
No.

I officially don't trust Hillary--she'd be trying to undermine Obama for a shot at 2012 out of the gate.

And we would just be giving the Republicans TWO people to attack instead of one.

The VP slot should be reserved for a safe calming choice with National Security or military experience.

21. Why Do Her Backers Keep Doing That?
It's almost like they keep telling their supporters not to give financially or support Senator Obama unless certain conditions are met. I have come to expect statements like this from supporters of each candidate but from high level backers and campaign workers, it is nothing but divisive. Emotions are raw and the anger you see and hear is extreme. It's why I want the primary season to end sooner than later.

It's May and the general is in November. Nemazee may think he is warning but it reads more like blackmail or a threat. If the goal is to get as many democrats elected as possible and to have a democratic president talk should be of unity behind the nominee and not this bs. None of the people making statements like this should be surprised when people accuse Clinton of trying to divide the party.

23. Hillary is too smart to accept the VP spot.
Better for her to watch BO lose in November and run again in 2012. Taking the VP spot would taint her in 2012.

35. This is unbelievable. It's reminding me of Blanche Dubois and her paper lantern
:wow:

It's like she forgot something in the White House and desperately needs to get back in there to find it.

How do I look?

- Lovely. - Lovely.

Please don't get up. I'm only passing through.

You are not the gentleman I was excepting.

- Did you forget something, Blanche? - Yes! Yes- I forgot something!

What are they going to do? Don't let them hurt her!

She says she forgot something.

It's all right.

What did you forget, Blanche?

- It don't matter. We can pick it up later. - Sure. We can send it along with the trunk.

I don't know you- I don't know you. I want to be- left alone- please!

Now, Blanche!

Blanche, you left nothing here but split talcum and old empty perfume bottles-

unless it's the paper lantern you want to take with you. You want the lantern?
