Hillary is the new MLK
I've never seen such inspiring rhetoric about freedom and civil rights. Hillary is my new hero. :)

Seriously, though. To cloak yourself in the mantle of freedom and democracy and civil rights is admirable when you really live it. To do so in a calculated attempt to benefit yourself is disgusting and demeaning.

I can understand supporting Hillary as a candidate. But if anyone can seriously admire what she's doing now, then that person values power over all else.

7. Hillary ensured that we all got to endure the last four years of George W Bush
Which is part of why the Karl Rove's etc love her so.

Within 24 hrs of the Nov 2004 election, Hillary was on the phone telling Edwards to quit grandstanding and to quit insisting that every vote count. And meanwhile her guy Carville was misrepresenting in discussions with Kerry on how many ballots had been left uncounted in Ohio. (This fact is confirmed by Woodward in his latest book)

Kerry should have had the spine to NOT concede regardless of what Carville told him. So I am not letting him off the hook. But Hillary needed to make the concession happen - if Kerry had gotten in, she would not have had the shot in 2008 for her run for the WH.

And she cared not one whit that these actions of hers left the nation under the Bush admniistration for another four years.

I had not even considered that point -- that Hillary needed Kerry to lose.

Thanks!

32. Snips and snatches from Woodward's Book
Edited on Fri May-23-08 03:15 PM by truedelphi
Here is my intro to this: Bush's victory was announced by Andy Card in the wee hours of the morning. THe numbers gave Bush his Presidency with the final report in on the situation in Ohio - his victory over Kerry was considered to be by by 138,000 of the counted votes.

Initially, Carville tells Kerry (Several hours before the Card announcement of the Bush Presidency win) that there are 250,000 outstanding ballots. Over time, with Blackwell in the loop due to Carville calling his wife Matalin and Matalin calling Cheney, Blackwell re-arranges the numbers of outstanding (ie uncounted ballots) to be only 150,000 to 160,000 ballots. So out of these uncounted ballots, Kerry would have to snag over 138,000 votes - almost a certain impossibility.

Voting activists closely connected with investigations into the Ohio 2004 election now say there were probably 400,000 uncounted votes. But when the Republican Party State of Ohio chairman is the same person that is the Ohio Secretary of State, little anomalies like this can happen (Said with great sarcasm)

Here's the snip and snatches from Woodward's book:
After 1 a.m., Card called Cahill.

Cahill said the Kerry campaign felt confident.

Card was caught off guard. ... --Is there going to be a phone call?"

"We won't be calling you," Cahill replied. She seemed to be half asking whether Bush would be calling Kerry to concede.

(snip)

Matalin is married to James Carville, a Democrat who had been chief political strategist for Bill Clinton in 1992. ... ...

"Look, I know this is hard for you," she told him sympathetically.

Carville told her he had some inside news. The Kerry campaign was going to challenge the provisional ballots in Ohio--perhaps up to 250,000 of them. "I don't agree with it," Carville said. "I'm just telling you that's what they're talking about."

Matalin went to report to Cheney.

What? the vice president asked. ...

"You'd better tell the president," Cheney told her. ...

"They're going to contest it," Matalin said.

"What does that mean?" the president asked. He had his note cards with talking points in hand, ready to go over to the Reagan Building to declare victory.

Matalin said somebody in authority needed to get in touch with J. Kenneth Blackwell, the Republican secretary of state in Ohio, who would be in charge of any challenge to the provisional votes.

(snip) skip forward to page 347...

"I'm the president of the United States," Bush said fuming, "waiting on a secretary of state who is a nut." ... ...

Reports came in that the networks wanted to go off the air without calling the race for either candidate.

Rove shouted, "They can't go off the air!"

At 3:36 a.m., a very sensitive communication from the Kerry camp was relayed to Rove and Bartlett at the White House. Mike McCurry, Clinton's former White House press secretary and a last-minute addition to the Kerry campaign, had e-mailed Nicole Devenish, the Bush campaign communications director, an off-the-record congratulations, advising that the Bush team should not try to force a resolution now. Don't pressure Kerry, McCurry said. In the end, he believed Kerry would do the right thing.

Bartlett and others told Bush about the e-mail, summarizing the message as "We'll do the right thing at the right time." They could trust that McCurry would be in a position to know what the Kerry campaign was thinking, Bartlett said, but they had to be careful not to put too much stock in it. At least we know there are people in the Kerry camp giving rational advice, Bartlett said. ... ...

Card said they should declare victory. ... ... ...

Forgot about that one! That's right -- had to be the older white guy who gets the credit for all the civil rights advances.

And England -- not Ghandi -- was responsible for India getting its independence.

And it was Phil Jackson -- not Michael Jordan -- that led to the Bulls winning all those rings.
