I like the idea of splitting generations by decade instead of two decades. People on the far ends of a two-decade span seem to have precious little in common.

Thus, if we break it down by decade, it would go something like:
1945-55: Baby Boomer
1955-65: Jones
1965-75: X
1975-85: Y
1985-95: Millennials or whatever they're callin' 'em

Does it refer to those who grew up watching Barnaby Jones?

We are "Space Babies" :D --> The 1st era of space exploration, transistorized electronics/computers, and rock and roll, which ends in the early 1970s. ;)

Baby Boomer is generally thought of being between 1946-1964. Obama is on the tail end of that for sure.

15. Many here have argued he is GenX.
 And I used to think the Repubs were the ones who weren't reality based. And if he is elected, I'll bet the corporate press will go on and on about "the torch being passed" to a new generation. They were. after all, the ones who brought us the millennium in 2000, one year early. You'd think some of them would have read or seen 2001 and made the connection.

http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/releases/archives/facts_for_features_special_editions/006105.html

A generation starting in 1945 and ending when?

Maybe to facilitate the Obama Spin, the baby boomers should be renamed The Shortest Generation.

41. Yes, my distrust of him pretty much dates from the day I read that article
There were a few other reference too, but he really does make it sound as if anyone from the Baby Boom or before (except him) is clip-clopping their way to the glue factory. I'm a couple of years older than he is, and I don't exactly feel washed up and over the hill yet.

31. It's a known fact that Obama's
father was an alien.

I saw a Star Trek episode years ago where they went to a planet were people started off old and grew young.

Maybe that explains Obama's transformation into a GenXer.

42. So where did Barack Obama HIMSELF say, quote, "boomers need to get over themselves"?
I see where the New York Times essentially put those words in his mouth, but for all we know, that's another example of an article written by and for Baby Boomers who think it's all about them.

Yes, please. Let's have the actual quote where Barack Obama said "baby boomers need to get over themselves".

Please.

33. Boomer only by official designation
I'm also from the tail end of the baby boom, and it is absolutely stupid to think that we have anything in common generationally with the generation that was already in high school and college when we were born. And if Obama's a Gen X-er, well, that would put him in the same generation as my daughter.
