Popular Vote Argument Gaining Steam! Obama Losing Momentum!
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/opinion/20080523_In_most_inclusive_count__Clinton_has_the_numbers.html">"Clinton's path is both obvious and simple: Win the popular vote and force Barack Obama and his cheerleaders to explain why that doesn't matter."

I think we can still push Hillary to a win. Look at the way Edwards tanked after his loss in South Carolina and compare that to the way Hillary's recovering. Usually candidates fall apart after the media makes a deliberate and concerted effort to drive them from the race, but neither they nor Obama have been enough to keep Hillary down. What's more, Hillary continues to dominate Obama in head-to-head match-ups against McCain.

That Hillary is still performing so well is a testament both to her strength as a candidate and Obama's serious weaknesses.

Oh I don't need polls or anything. I know exactly what states we will gate if Obama is the Democratic nominee and wisely chooses a VP nominee

12. I completely disagree with that.
In fact, I think Obama's supporters are completely dividing the party. And I also don't think a lot of them identify strongly with the Democratic party. Of course, some do. But you can't tell me that all of the people at his rallies are registered Democrats. He's attracting crossover Republicans and Independents whose identification is with candidate, NOT party. According to an ad The Nation is running, two thirds of the crossover Republicans and independents in Pennsylvania went for Obama, not Clinton.

I find his identification with the Democratic party to be weaker than Clinton's, or, for example, Kerry's or Gore's. Have you ever seen Obama out raising money for another candidate? Clinton has been out here in Washington MANY times raising money for other peoples' campaigns. For that matter, she raised money for Obama in 2004. I've never seen Obama out here working for anyone else, and there are people running who could have used his help.

voted Bush in 2004. The only reason she has been in the race this long is because Republics are dicking with the race.

40. Sadly, if he is not the nominee, I think they will.
He is attracting a lot of new interest in the election, but not to the party (IMO). In fact, DNC fundraising is horrible. All the money is going to him (I also read an article where it says that he wants people to donate just to him, not any interest groups which of course, includes progressive advocacy groups). One of our staff went to his rally and was quite excited about it, but I doubt if she could name our two state senators.

13. The "popular vote" doesn't matter because that's not how our primary works! She doesn't include any
caucus states which DO vote in Nov., but DOES include Puerto Rico which does NOT vote in Nov. Nor does it include any votes for Obama in MI. Give it up. She lost fair and square.

19. Still doesn't matter. The system we use goes by delegates as Mark Penn himself said. Why should
Puerto Rico count when it doesn't vote in the GE? And why doesn't Obama get ANY votes from MI for following the rules? Sorry, if the rules were that the winner is the one who gets the popular vote, Obama would've run his campaign differently.

53. Go back to about May 7th
That's where Hillary lost the momentum. In order for her to have had any chance her numbers had to keep rising from there, leaving Obama steadily in her wake. I understood her argument that a lead in the pledged delegate count was not the equivalent to Obama locking up the nomination, but Hillary had a difficult case to make. In order to make it momentum not only had to favor her, but it had to show that Obama was falling out of favor with the electorate. Some kind of mushy quasi stalemate at best just won't cut it for her now. She is still 7 points BEHIND in that poll, not 7 points ahead.
