Repubs pressure "last minute party switcher's" opponent to drop out
Edited on Wed Aug-11-04 11:19 AM by funkybutt
Scott will stay in 5th District race despite pressure to quit

(AP) — In the space of two weeks, Jock Scott went from being called an "excellent" Republican candidate for the 5th Congressional District seat to being asked to drop out of the race.

But Scott said that's not something he's prepared to do, even if the party has decided to throw its weight behind its newest recruit, congressman Rodney Alexander.

"I have been subjected since Friday evening to a constant effort in numerous different ways to get me out of this race," Scott said. "The Republican Party at the national level just won't quit trying to get me out of this race."

Maybe having 2 republicans in the race will split the republican vote and put the advantage to little known Dem Zelma "Tisa" Blakes. Possibly the Republicans will be weary of Rodney Alexander b/c of his recent party switch.

1. Who is Zelma Blakes?
She isn't on the ballot, is she? Because of turncoat Scott, there is no Dem on the ballot, right? So, will she be a write-in.

Or, what?

3. Zelma Blakes IS on the ballot
and she's the ONLY democrat on the ticket due to the state democratic party's failure to see this one coming from a mile away. You can read a little about Zelma Blakes here

4. That's great!
So, if the two thuglicans stay in the race, we can do a divide-an-conquer thing on them? That would serve that Scott-guy right.

6. well...
i think it would serve that alexander dude right...and the republican party for that matter. The Scott guy has been deceived by his own party. He was told that he was their guy and he was going to recieve the endorsement and financial backing of the party...right up to the minute alexander pulled the switerooo. Now the party is saying they are behind alexander instead. Talk about FLIP FLOPPERS!

8. How did the party let this happen?
From his website you can tell all his positions are conservative, so even if elected as a Democrat he'd have been no use to us.

From his website (which still says "Democrat"):
Rodney, a pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment Democrat, is an active member of the Blue Dog Coalition, and serves as a conservative voice in the Democratic Party in Congress. He is committed to helping his colleagues on both sides of the aisle find a bipartisan consensus on critical issues ranging from health care to tax reform.

10. exactly!!
I've been hearing rumblings for quite some time that this was possible. Personally I believe our state democratic party and leaders really dropped the ball on this one. People have been complaining about his positions and worrying about this exact thing happening. These people were either told to keep quiet or ignored all together. It's really a shame that this was allowed to happen.

2. yeah... he's a newbie in the cult and hasn't gotten his wings yet...
so he's gotta prove himself with a little "creepy crawly" before he gets the big show.

Funny how easy it is to describe the GOP as a cult isn't it?

5. The Republican Party......................
is despicable. They attempt to subvert Democracy at every turn. When will people realize that they are the epitome of evil? They are evil incarnate and don't deserve the air they breathe on this planet.
Sometimes I think that they can't get any worse, but they always surprise me and come up with something to change that opinion.
