Obama draws close to 20,000 in Sunrise, Florida today.
Video is included.

Arena crowd in Sunrise cheers Obama's talk of unity

Capping a whirlwind 24 hours of fundraising and wooing key constituencies across vote-rich South Florida, Barack Obama on Friday pumped up an already enthusiastic crowd at a massive rally with calls for change, some criticism of John McCain, and a promise to return.

If they weren't already smitten, an estimated 16,000 people who came to the BankAtlantic Center were ready to fall in love — and they didn't leave disappointed.

"It was electrifying," said Jennifer Caton, a stay-at-home mom from Fort Lauderdale. "If he can deliver, he's the man, he's the one. I'm feeling hopeful he will live up to his word." At age 59, Diane Nickum, of Davie, is in a demographic group that gives Hillary Clinton passionate support. But Nickum is with Obama.

He does goof a little and call it Sunshine, but it probably seemed that way to him today.

Obama's 39-minute speech, delivered by a candidate who paced back and forth across the stage, holding what he called an Oprah-style microphone, was frequently interrupted with applause and cheers. The audience was extraordinarily diverse for a political rally, reflecting the demographic makeup of Broward County, in which the Caucasian population is a minority.

"When we are unified, Sunshine, no one can stop us. There is no challenge we cannot meet, no destiny we cannot fulfill," Obama said. "I regret that we couldn't have campaigned here earlier. But I promise you we're going to make up for lost time."

What an enthusiastic crowd.

Florida could heal because they really want to do so. Most here are as tired of being divided as I am...and we all here know I am greviously tired of it.

If the state Democrats, the Hillary campaign would back off...if they would stop filing the lawsuits this state could be a better place.

2. Ooo, I was close!
I guessed 13,000-15,000. 16,000 ain't too far off!

As for the whole Sunshine/Sunrise thing, I'll cut him some slack. After all, Sunrise is basically just a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale, not a big city. And we ARE the Sunshine State, so I'll forgive a tourist for gettin' mixed up...

Just want to make sure that the RW has an excuse to downplay the attendance. After all they've been saying that the Jews hate Obama, the Cubans hate Obama, the rednecks hate Obama. Well the last one might be true but I'm thinking that with all of the new young Dems that Obama has been bringing into our party will easily cancel them out.

15. no, but from the looks of the size of the crowd it would not have
been as up close and personal. I was too busy staring at my new desktop photo, though....it is the picture with me giving him the mustard seed.

16. I thought when he referred to the city as "Sunshine" he was talking about FL "Sunshine Laws"
Since he wants an open government.

Or maybe by this Beatles Tune:

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

I need to laugh, and when the sun is out
I've got something I can laugh about
I feel good, in a special way
I'm in love and it's a sunny day

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

We take a walk, the sun is shining down
Burns my feet as they touch the ground

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

Then we lie beneath a shady tree
I love her and she's loving me
She feels good, she know she's looking fine
I'm so proud to know that she is mine

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
