Obama via his Axelrod lies/smears Hillary while claiming to not "stir it up" - ABC expose
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/05/25/campaign.wrap/
CNN) -- Sen. Hillary Clinton said Sunday some people are using her controversial reference to Robert F. Kennedy's assassination to suggest that she meant something "completely unthinkable."

Her campaign also accused the rival Obama campaign of "inflaming" the situation and purposely taking her words out of context. But the Obama campaign said it was not trying to "stir the issue up."

http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/05/25/special-comment-for-keith-olbermann/#more-2706

"On Friday night, in one of his “special comments,” Keith Olbermann unleashed his fury at Hillary Rodham Clinton. Senator Clinton reminded questioners asking why she did not get out of the race that the unexpected can happen.

She cited Bill Clinton’s clinch of the nomination only in June 1992 and the assassination of Bobby Kennedy in June 1968.

But apparently the short history lesson was too much for Mr. Olbermann"<snip>

Mr. Olbermann decided that Senator Clinton’s mention of Bobby Kennedy was really code for an attack on Barack Obama, or if not that repugnant a call, at least the suggestion of a possible link between an assassination 40 years ago and the current democratic frontrunner.

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/05/25/clinton-defends-rfk-remarks/

"In addition, the Obama campaign sent the entire political press corps the transcript of a searing commentary about Mrs. Clinton by Keith Olbermann on MSNBC.
George Stephanopoulos, the host of ABC’s “This Week,” asked David Axelrod, Mr. Obama’s top strategist, about the e-mail:
Mr. Stephanopoulos: You say you’re not trying to stir the issue up. But a member of your press staff yesterday was sending around to an entire press list — I have the e-mail here — Keith Olbermann’s searing commentary against Hillary Clinton. So that is stirring this up, isn’t it?”
Mr. Axelrod: “Well, Mr. Olbermann did his commentary and he had his opinion. But as far as we’re concerned.”
Mr. Stephanopoulos: “But your campaign was sending it around.”
Mr. Axelrod: “As far as we’re concerned, George, as far as we’re concerned, this issue is done. It was an unfortunate statement, as we said, as she’s acknowledged. She has apologized. The apology, you know, is accepted. Let’s move forward.”
Mr. Axelrod: “There’s so many important things going on in this country right now, George, that people are interested in that we’re not going to spend days dwelling on this.”

Since March 4:

Hillary votes: 6,519,685
Obama votes: 6,007,744
Margin: Hillary +511,941

Hillary pledged delegates: 510
Obama pledged delegates: 495

Hillary contests: 7 (OH, RI, TX, PA, IN, WV, KY)

basketball game? The person who gets more points in the 4th quarter should be the winner? Even if they're too far behind to catch up? What a joke. How many new ways are you people going to try to justify her staying in this race past June 3rd?

And how DARE the Obama campaign "exploit" Hillary's tasteless comments! :eyes:

That our DU Community seems to favor Obama by a WIDE majority (probably close to 8:1), seems to be pretty obvious to all by now. Does that make it less "Democratic"? Are we now the "swinish multitude", reputedly how Alexander Hamilton castigated the popular majority in his times? Fie on thee, aristocratic swine!

because it is like accepting a package without knowing what is inside. Republican faithful will not be voting for Obama, they will be coming out in droves, even though they aren't enchanted with McCain. Some have even suggested that McCain will withdraw in order to keep the administration in Republican hands.

This constant cherry-picking of graphs and statistics from the Hillary camp is just plain sad, and worse, this insatiable and sociopathic desire to find *any* justification for staying in the race is killing the Democratic Party and ensuring that McCain will be President. You pro-Hill folks should be ashamed and embarrassed at what she is doing to the future of Democrats and progressives in this country.

24. Voters per pledged delegate is not a rational measurement
Let's say I bought 2 tickets for a seat in consecutive Cardinals-Cubs games at $80 a piece.

The first game the Cardinals trounced the Cubs 8-0. That comes out to $10 a run.

The second game, the cardinals beat the Cubs 1-0. That comes out to $80 a run.

Should I complain that I was ripped off in the second game, or should I just be smart enough to realize I paid $80 a game, and not by the run?

Delegates are apportioned by Democratic turnout in the last three elections. The are not distributed by primary popular vote. One would hope someone politically active enough to participate on a political message board would be smart enough to realize what delgates represent.

Edited on Mon May-26-08 12:03 PM by DanTex
It makes it look like Clinton has like 2.5 times as many voters per pledged delegate as Obama.

Whereas in fact (if the numbers are even correct), it's more like 11800 to 10800, or about 1.05 times as many.

LOL

This is straight from "how to mislead with numbers 101". Put them on a chart with completely distorted scales.

39. Ridiculous distortion of the data...this reminds me of the global warming skeptics...
The point of a post like this is not to marshal the facts and convince anyone, it is to muddy the waters, so what you thought was clear, is not so clear. This kind of doubt provides political cover, a plausible deniability so that you can continue to support an indefensible position.

The same muddying tactic is now widely employed in the media portrayal of science. Put experts out there on both sides, not with the intent of swaying the scientific community on, say, global warming, but to provide cover by claiming things are controversial or uncertain.

It is transparently dishonest.

Obama Superdelegates: 309
Margin: Obama +30 superdelegates

it normal for campaigns to send out press releases of reported events that reflect just what Axelrod was doing? I suppose Stephanopolous would know ...

In addition to the bogus history (the length of BOTH the 68 and 92 campaigns before they were wrapped up, when compared to this year's, was indeed very short), the reality is Obama has already won the majority of pledged delegates, and will soon (BEFORE June 3) have hit the FORMERLY magic number of 2025. Are these folk going to keep trashing Obama until he gets to 2206 delegates or what?

:banghead:

I have, incidentally, of late, criticized some of the more partisan Obama supporters here on DU for obvious gloating over Hillary's really bizarre and macabre gaffe:

O8)

Remember, we need to unify the party behind Barack Obama for the GE. Incendiary posts from EITHER camp at this point (and I know people have different standards, and some might consider my insistence that Obama pick someone (preferably a woman) OTHER than Hillary might by some be considered incendiary, but hey -- one man's Mede is another man's Persian ...

44. Everyone just step back for a moment in amazement- yes, Hillary can play victim even here!
Is the audacity for this one off the charts?

No. There is no chart for Hillary. The graph keeps getting exploded.

Just remember that while a normal person would have long since apologized for what she said-

truly, seriously, what reasoning could there be for using the word "assassination"- further, this was clearly a classic Hillary "let's sound casual" moment when she tried to pass off her "what was it, the second week of June" despite the fact that she'd hit this exact talking point multiple times before-

Hillary and her crew are STILL trying to spin that the story is how people reacted. Not what she said.

That is just astounding.

49. Now I'm getting PISSED!
Obama via his Axelrod lies?

From the same link that you posted at cnn.com:

>But Obama himself later said, "I don't think that Senator Clinton intended anything by it," and that "we should put it behind us."

The news media are the only ones "stirring it up.", Obama is being polite and giving Hillary the benefit of the doubt.

Now if you want to talk about lies lets change the subject to some real lies about someone that visited Bosnia.

About anything, like excersizing his vote, staying awake in Rev. Wright's church. Stuff like that.

See there, two can post silliness that would make a child of five point and laugh at it's utter absurdity. The difference between us is that I recognize stupidity when I see it; you just post it non-stop.
