McCain: "I will never surrender in Iraq."
He said this today in the face of some hecklers.

Eyes on the prize, people. This man must not become president.

1. and....is it just me, or did he WINK when he said that?
Plus, he added in a little "my friends". Ugh. Because I'm in my twenties, that "surrender" talking point just seems so transparent and dated to me, will it have affect on older voters? Maybe Obama can use this as an opportunity to make a point about "political propaganda" code words used by the Republican agenda (i.e, "mission accomplished"). But then, you know, McCain would throw a fit because he would take that as Obama "disrespecting the veteran!" McCain is starting to have more and more edge in his voice when he talks about Obama. It is a beautiful thing to watch. I really hope that he has some sort of public anger flare up.

Every time he says that he probably gets an erection.

3. Custer never surrendered at the Little Big Horn.
Hitler never surrendered in Berlin.

Hell, even Nixon knew when it was time to throw in the towel.

8. Many people see "never surrender" as a strategy unto itself,
as if dumb brute force and bullheadedness alone will somehow get you results, no matter what the situation is. There are people who would have not been reduced to ash and melting fat had they "surrendered" to Mount St. Helen's and left their fucking homes, but I guess the joke was really on that volcano.

Sometimes giving up is the smartest strategy available.

4. It is hard to cope with surrender
However, a phased withdrawal, like Obama wants, is not the same as surrender.

5. Do you think that's enough to convince HRC supporters to NOT vote McCain? Given that one of them
called it a blip in history and another one agrees on invading Iran (Citing that speaking won't do anything unless I could come up with an argument that could convince Bush to change his ways).

Think again. They don't care.

one of DU's favorite people Pat Buchanan today
was saying that the "Obama wants to surrender!" jab would be VERY effective for McCain in getting, as Pat called them, Hillary democrats. Never mind that Hillary basically has a very similar withdrawal plan and the pubs would be saying the exact same thing about her if she were the nominee. I mean, I could see the GOP trying to get "Hillary Democrats" (is this the new media catchphrase) by pushing the "he's an elitist, he's inexperienced!" thing, but by the "he wants to surrender!" claim? Not so much, Pat.

14. The irony is Pat doesn't like Hillary; I remember one of the pundits calling him on it.He was making
fun of Pat surprising love for Hillary.

13. This isn't necessarily just for the Clinton supporters.
I'm sure the overwhelming majority of Clinton supporters are perfectly aware of what's at stake this year, and they have no need for me to remind them that McCain is running for Psychopath-In-Chief.

I just saw him a few minutes ago on TV, spitting up this gem, and I was a little horrified, and I maybe started this thread to counteract that a bit. That man just wants to keep digging the hole, and he needs to be stopped.

I agree,
but according to Pat Buchanan, Hillary's "17 million army" would NEVER vote for Obama! At least, that's what he wants us to think. I agree that a slice of them won't , but Pat just goes overboard on everything as usual.

10. Obama made a similiar remark July 28, 2004
On July 28th, the day after his speech at the Democratic convention catapulted him into the national spotlight, Barack Obama told a group of reporters in Boston that the United States had an “absolute obligation” to remain in Iraq long enough to make it a success.”The failure of the Iraqi state would be a disaster,” he said at a lunch sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor, according to an audiotape of the session. “It would dishonor the 900-plus men and women who have already died. . . . It would be a betrayal of the promise that we made to the Iraqi people, and it would be hugely destabilizing from a national security perspective.”In late winter, 2008, on the campaign trail, Obama says he wants to bring the troops home yesterday — you decide — was he lying then or is he lying now?

12. Going home isn't "surrendering" when it's the illegal invaders doing it, John.
It might be wise, decent, realistic, and even just the "right thing to do"...
but it's not "surrendering".

19. I believe him. He won't surrender.
To surrender, he'd have to be in command. Too bad, John, but someone else will be Commander-in-Chief.

20. When Obama becomes president he can give McCain a gun
and a uniform and passage to Iraq. And then McCain can not surrender.
