Do most American Voters these days distinguish between Auschwitz and Buchenwald?
Edited on Tue May-27-08 06:41 PM by KoKo01
Who cares about some "Great Uncle" (sheesh) who liberated either of them. It's so long ago... The important thing is that Obama had a "Great Uncle" who did fight in WWII and DID liberate a Nazi Concentration Camp. Isn't the "Liberation" the story...and not the Great Uncle and which camp?

Isn't this important for folks to know that Obama isn't just the man you see...but like all of us he had relatives who served in the Military?

Making this whole thing about "which concentration camp" and forcing Obama to go through relatives he probably didn't even know is really "stretching it" for this campaign. It's disgusting...the pandering one must go through to be "properly militaristic in one's outlook" to be President. When WAR IS DRAINING US DRY!

Stand up to this crap, Obama! How many more Dems (who started many wars) have to pander to these Straw Dog Militarists? The ones whose wars are causing the COLLAPSE of our ECONOMY in SERVITUDE to the American Neo-Con's vision of ENDLESS WAR along with RW "End of the World," advocates about either ending civilization or bringing "freedom and democracy" to countries so we can steal their resources?

19. There were so many Holocaust reservoirs. Baba Yar is one most....
don't even know about but they figure over 100,000 were killed there.

2. Most adults with whom I spoke about the Holocaust in the 70's
didn't know the difference.

I met a JEwish man as a child with a tattooed arm. He had been in Buchenwald. I was told by every adult I knew to respect him because "he was in Auschwitz".

Am I out of the loop because of my extensive ignore list? Are they seriously trying to make this an issue on the cable news?

I know Hill supporters are not trying to make an issue out of historical gaffes; not after the Queen inserted foot in mouth this weekend.

8. One concentration camp is as good as another in the grand scheme
Is the specific camp really an important part of the story? I don't think so.

was ball and turret gunner in a B-17 or a B-24. If Obama mis-spoke, it is completely understandable.

10. Most Americans
Don't know that we fought on the same side as the Russians in World War II. Talk about bending over to pick up pennies on the side of the road with an 18-wheeler bearing down on you, these Repubs will stop at nothing to confuse the issue so they can slip by more of their dismal candidates.

And today, Gramps McCain is jabbering about how someone who never served can't know how to help veterans. You'd have to be shit-on-a-shingle stupid to fall for that whopper.

11. That's the problem...Repugs are still stuck in 20th Century and Granpa McCain seems to
think what worked against every other Dem will work against Obama. But, remember...as much as we Dems are now into making theClinton's "PAY" for the misery they caused their party with their caving to Bush Family and Repugs and Wall St... DLC, etc. that Bill Clinton didn't "Serve" and the Repugs NEVER LET HIM FORGET IT! They used it as a stick over his head...but they were into frenzy that he won two terms. And, he allowed them to use it on him.

I hope that Obama will be strong enough to see the "stick" they are going after him with...in their "old thinking." Hopefully...this stupid story will die because no one cares...it's so old timey...and hopefully Obama won't be forced to pander to AIPAC and others because of it, dragging him backward in time warp.

12. If anyone can see "the stick" it's Obama.
After all, he refused to bow down to the "I am a patriot only because I wear a flag lapel pin" rhetoric.

13. Most Americans think we won WWII single-handedly.
With John Wayne as commanding General with George Patton. Oh yeah that guy with the cool glasses and corn-cop pipe. Hell most Americans probably think that the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.

15. I'd be frightened to know how little most Americans know about WWII...
whenever they do "man on the street interviews" on TV and ask people about history, or geography, or even current foreign affairs, it's
AMAZING how many people know NOTHING in this country! :scared:

Edited on Tue May-27-08 08:28 PM by amandabeech
It is a sad commentary that some one with a bachelor's degree from Columbia and a law degree from Harvard would parrot family stories without realizing the error.

Obama's not running for man-in-the-street, you know.

I'll vote for him anyway, but I suggest that he read a few basic history and geography texts.

26. I guess that there can be no criticism of your candidate, even from someone who will vote for him.
This is the Democratic Party. Everyone gets their say.

If you want to worship a religious figure or enforce political purity, I suggest you go over to Free Republic where that is accepted.

I'll vote for your candidate, but it will be in spite of you and your ilk.

17. the point of the story was for treatment for soldiers
No one should have to deal with the horrors of war by locking themselves up in an attic.

But when an opponent of his sees the story, rather than latching onto the real issue, they appeal to division. I have come to expect this sort of short-sightedness from the ones who have posted the negative threads about this topic.

21. Probably not. It probably just sounds concentration campish to most.
The reaction to this is absurd especially since it's a convenient swerve off-topic which was McSame is crapping on the veterans as is a GOP tradition. Obama had the nerve to point it out.

I'm sure they have a good relationship, some people need to get it together. If you're a Republican freaking leave, otherwise pull yourself together and look at the facts.

Don't know which countries where the remains of either camp is currently in and when told wouldn't be able to find those countries on a map.
