1. No
The pukes would go for a dem (in their eyes) VP about as well as we'd go for a puke VP. McCain's old. They don't want the possibility of a Lieberman presidency.

26. I'd love it if he did!
LOL. But he won't, not unless he's feeling politically suicidal..

3. One can only hope . . .
What a disastrous choice. No one who isn't completely beholden to Lieberman wants to have anything to do with the guy. The dems hate him for being a quisling, the 'Licans hate him for being a dem, the independents hate him for sullying the name of indepentism, and anyone left over hates him for being a Jew.

Perfect running mate for McLame.

4. Joe hopes so.
But I don't think John will make it so.

Joe is useful to McCain and Joe is too enamored to get that he is being used.

Bummer for Joe.

5. Lieberman has a pro-choice voting record.
McCain said that pro-choice persons would not be considered for his VP candidate.

Why would he paint himself into a corner like that?

15. He'll say whatever it takes to win over the fundie nut-jobs...
and apparently the Norquistians and those of the Jewish faith (but not the Catholics, fuck the Catholics :eyes: ) and he'll even try for the environmentalists, but not to worry, McCain uses erasable paint for all his corner painting. The great panderer will do and say whatever he believes to be the most politically prudent closer to November...

Straight Talk Express my lily white Irish ass!!!!

6. I hope...The Douche Bag Ticket (I coin the term)
How many people will vote for a bunch of old nerdy farts who suck eachother off and talk out of their ass? Both of those guys are approaching Mr Burns status and stature (physically). 'My Friends', I just don't think its going to happen, but it would be a dream come true.

21. Here are a few novel ideas as to how Obama can win our votes (I could care less about Lieberman)
1) Repudiate anyone associated with his campaign that called the Clintons, in so many words, bad people.

2) Talk about what a great Senator Hillary has been and what a great president she would have been.

3) Address the mysogeny that took place on the campaign. Deny credentials to the convention to any journalist who took part.

4) Rules changes to the nominating process.

5) More thoroughly address the mortgage crisis.

6) Stop trashing our party's legacy from the 1990s.

7) Recognize that for every person who was hurt by what was declared to be "race-baiting" there was another person who was equally hurt by the charges of racism and race-baiting. For the first time in my life I have been called a racist. And you know what? I don't like it. I might remember it in November. So Obama might want to reach out a little, even if it means giving up his beloved historical narrative.

9. Actually.....
I think McCain is going to tap something else of Liberman's. The way they've been acting of late, I wouldn't be surprised if they ran off to California and got married.

Maybe that's the role Liberman has for McCain - first gentleman

11. If he did, and Obama ran with Edwards...
the also-ran vps from two back to back campaigns would be going against each other for the first time I can remember. Of course, I'm drinking right now, so I can't remember that much.

24. Good point. McCain is already in hot water with a lot of the nutbag
fundies.

Lieberman wouldn't do him much good there at all.

Although among Democrats he's weak. But Republicans dont' want to be strong among Democrats anyway.

16. No.
I have nothing but loathing for Joe L. But the fact is that he has a history of strong rankings from pro-choice and pro-gun control groups (and poor ratings from "right to life" groups and the NRA. While McCain generally gets high marks from right to life groups, his support for stem cell research has some in those groups questioning his sincerity and he has historically been regarded with suspicion by the NRA. So in picking a VP he needs to shore up those groups, not send them, and their money, fleeing.

Joe L. probably could get any position he wanted in a McCain administration. But he will never be McCain's running mate.

22. It can't be ruled out. The Republicans are coming off an 8-year
binge of abjectly disgraceful rule and as the symptoms of losing influence and power set in -- the cramps, the chlls, the shaking, the hysterical accusations, the revelations of fraud, the loss of House & Senate seats, analyst appointments on FOX News -- they could probably be expected to do just about anything.

Hard to say what McCain will do for a veep pick. Lieberman is certainly a man of fluid loyalties and would accept the limelight, even if in the service of a profoundly historical landslide in favor of his original party.

I checked out of Hotel Lieberman some time ago. Lamont was the choice of Democrats from Connecticut and absent Republican support for the indy Lieberman run, Lamont would be one of that state's U.S. Senators.

McCain, short of some unforeseen screw up by the Democrats this time, is facing a rough few months ahead and a likelihood of significant defeat in November. He deserves it all, with or without Lieberman as veep, but with Lieberman on the ticket, it will be even more fun to vote Democratic.
