Poll question: *** Third and Fourth Tier VP Candidate Poll ***
(Vote in First and Second Tier Poll here)

For explanation of my ranking as third/fourth-tier vp candidates:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x6155298

Bob Graham, Chris Dodd and Sam Nunn missed the cutoff - if you'd like to vote for them just reply with their name in the subject line (or anyone else you don't see listed in either this thread or the First/Second Tier poll)

5. He's only been listed in 1 poll so far and didn't do so well -
I've heard a few people opposed to him but haven't heard the good. Why would he be a good choice?

2. For Obama to select a MALE running mate who is ANTI-choice would be the HEIGHT of perversity nt

3. On this list, I really like Janet Napolitano the best
Western states. Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, one of Nebraska's districts, possibly even Arizona if McCain fucks that up.

10. Huh?
Being an Obama supporter, didnt you find him rather offensive? He was too out spoken against Obama I thought for him to be considered.. He definitely is a fighter but seems to political and not sincere.

11. Yep, Rendell pisses me off
but he'd be a good running mate for Senator Obama.

12. lol
yah I agree, he is a fighter for sure. He would make a good VP since they are usually the attack dogs during the gen elect campaign. I would have to look further into his political career to decide though for myself.

9. Well who do you like?
I think some of the candidates have an opportunity to move up to higher tiers - some of the early favorites were flashes in the pan. Brian Schweitzer wasn't even mentioned till just a couple of weeks ago.

8. Tim Kaine...and why I like him.
1. First national figure to endorse Barack Obama

2. He and Barack's mothers were both from El Dorado, Kansas

3. Governor of Virginia, a Southern swing-state

4. Is a former missionary and is pro-life (which I'm not personally crazy about but certainly puts the Republican/Democratic social-conservatives in play)

5. Grew up and went to school in Missouri, another key swing state

6. Has been a strong surrogate for Obama

7. He and Barack clearly have a strong rapport

Cons:
1. The pro-life thing
2. His term doesn't expire until Jan. 2010, so the Republican Lt. Governor would take over for a year.

13. Growing up in MO helps. That's a real bellweather state.
I still think "Obama-Kaine" sounds too much like Novacaine and Cocaine. You know those Repugs - unfortunate that you have to take something so silly as a person's surname into consideration but there it is.

14. Lol. I'd love to hear the GOP try to bring that up...
What with Cindy McCain's history.

I honestly think that the mothers being from the same town would be a really powerful narrative and a great way to highlight Obama's Midwestern roots.

15. Boxer over Kaine? I disagree with your rankings. But whatever. I was for Warner until
Edited on Wed May-28-08 07:42 PM by Occam Bandage
he announced he wasn't running; I'd like him as VP, though I think he has his sights set on first the Senate, than the White House in his own right.

19. He might be making it to the second tier soon
He's only been really brought up in the last 3 weeks, already seems to have a bit of a following.
