1. Only trouble is
the GOP is going to put pressure on him to resign immediately so NJ would be a run off for Governor. That might not be good news...

3. "Put pressure on him to resign immediately"? They cannot threaten him.

5. Who, the GOP? Nahhh, they wouldn't threaten anyone, right?
The media will be 'guided' by the fascists (have you noticed any partisanship in media lately?) to apply this pressure for the gov to step down. I'm not sure if there is any way to force him out, but if there is, it WILL come to light. Count on it.

10. Immediately? Was he indicted? Was he convicted?
He is dealing with a personal issue that may become public, there is no urgency that he resign. No one has deemed him unfit for office. No legal allegations have been made, yet.

11. And there it is.... "YET"
This has been looking worse and worse every time I read something new. He very well might be forced to resign early in exchange for favorable treatment on prosecution.

One real question is whether anything that's coming out represents a potential federal issue. I suspect the state prosecutors are friendly with the party and have no interest in forcing an election. But the federal prosecutors are in Bush's pocket.

14. Thank you...
for helping make my point. The GOP smell blood in the water and they won't let this go away until McGreevey is out on his ass.

7. no Lt. GOvernor in NJ
If he leaves office after Sept 15th then the Senate President will take over for the rest of the term. If he leaves beforehand they have a run off.

Although NJ is a safe state for Kerry, the governor seat has always been vulnerable for democrats in NJ. Probably because the state is so screwed up when it comes to taxes and it's budget (Homeland security is killing the state).

McGreevey did raise taxes in NJ but for sin taxes and milionaires. He did everything in his power to not raise taxes for working class folks of the state. But I feel sorry for whoever is elected governor of that state because it's just a total mess.

12. Working class peple in NJ don't buy houses?
The tax increase on real estate transfers alone is supposed to be higher than the average state income tax bill.

16. if the parties were reversed
the Dems would be putting pressure on the Republican governor to resign.
& if it becomes an actual legal matter, that would be justified.
It's beginning to look like this might be an actual legal matter.
Time will tell.

8. If He's Guilty, No Free Passes
I really don't know McGreevey's record, yet, but have seen some dubious stories...and judgement is withheld until more details come forth, but if some of these allegations are true about this man compromising his office and playing fast and loose with his personal life, he deserves to be condemned and whatever fate goes with it.

This man didn't come out to champion gay rights and if something hadn't brought this story forward, he's still be hiding his private life. I sense there's a very nasty story that will be coming out here, and one that there's could be little to defend.

I'm seeing a lot of LGBT folks here ready to circle the wagons around McGreevy or "wish" for there not to be a scandal, but if there is, and it affects the operation of state government or compromises McGreevy's ability to govern, he should resign immediately.

Let's go carefully here and let the truth come out. It may be difficult and damaging to some, but this is something we can do, and must, Repugnicans can't.

If McGreevy's the subject of some extortion or the charges are fraudulent, then we all should defend this man as much as we can. But if he's used his position of power and authority to further his libido (and sexual orientation means nothing here) or hide his adultery, he gets no free pass here.

Let the facts play out.

13. I disagree because this puts cultural issues on the front burner
and like it or not gay marriage, ect. Also, the swift vet thing is a non-story. It is being discredited--even Tweety easily took McNeil apart last night.

15. But the Swifties were just starting to get massive blowback - sorry, I
don't see a positive here for Dems though I doubt it will hurt Kerry at all.
