Secretary of State Kerry??
I think this would be an excellent choice. I like Biden too, he has the knowledge & experience, not sure about the temperament, lol

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24860223/">John Kerry: Is he angling for secretary of state?

Kerry aides insist he's not angling for the job and point to his long involvement in foreign affairs. It started with his famous testimony as a 27-year-old veteran questioning the Vietnam War before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. It continues today, at age 64, as the No. 3 Democrat on the same panel.

But envisioning him in the post would hardly be a stretch given Obama's chances at securing the Democratic nomination, a general election shaping up as a "change" campaign and Kerry's relationship with the Illinois senator.

Kerry would likely face competition from Sen. Joseph R. Biden of Delaware, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee; Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut, a former Peace Corps volunteer who also sits on the panel, and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota, a top Obama adviser.

"John Kerry would love to end his career as secretary of state. It would be a capstone to a life that has always been devoted to public service, but in particular has been focused on foreign affairs," said Jeffrey Berry, a political science professor at Tufts University.

Kerry helped Obama burst on the national stage by selecting the then-Senate candidate to deliver the keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. And he endorsed Obama over rival Hillary Rodham Clinton even though she had just won the New Hampshire primary.

Yet an Obama spokesman kept a respectful distance from questions about a potential Cabinet appointment.

"Senator Obama appreciates his close friendship with Senator Kerry, his service to this country and his early support for our campaign. It is obviously far too early to even speculate about the makeup of an Obama administration — as we are still in a nomination fight — but with his depth of expertise, especially on issues of foreign policy, Senator Kerry would be on the short list for anyone's Cabinet," said spokesman Bill Burton.

1. He's got my vote.
I also like Biden, but he's a bit too gaffe-prone for my tastes. If our country weren't in such a precarious position, foreign relations-wise, I'd be more enthusiastic about him.

But, as it stands, Kerry's my top pick.

2. My only regret about Kerry being appointed Secretary of State
is that I would lose him as my Senator. Despite this, I think he'd be a fantastic choice for the job.

3. Works for me.... there are many good Democrats that
could take his appointed senate seat and do a great job.

4. Would you people STOP TRYING TO STEAL DEM SENATORS!!!!!!!!
If we are to have ANY HOPE of getting close to 60 Dem Senators, you're sure not going to get them by stealing them to work in a Dem Admin. cabinet!

7. I wouldn't worry about MA
They'd have another Dem Senator up there in a heartbeat to take Kerry's place.

I think any of the ones mentioned would be great: Kerry, Dodd, Biden or Daschle. With the edge to Kerry because he's more well-known to the non-American world than the others and has more charisma.

11. Half of the MA House delegation (all Dems) would rush the State House with their nomination papers
It's been a long, long time since there was an open Senate seat in Massachusetts. In 2004, when it looked like Kerry might become president, a couple of MA congress-critters started fundraising to run for his Senate seat, even though he was still in it. With the probability of Kennedy's seat opening up, I see that happening again. With two open Senate seats, it would be utter chaos in the MA House delegation. They'd be tripping over each other to run for the Senate.

13. Barney Frank was interested back when it looked like Kerry might not even consider running
again for the Senate. It might be a good thing to open up the Senate for younger teams. The elders should move into areas of statesmanship; it makes sense.

5. Only if Kerry is angling to end his career
Kerry has 23 years seniority in the Senate. With Ted's illness, Kerry stands to become the senior senator from Mass. That's a lifetime position with lots of perks, no heavy lifting.

SecState would be nice, but would end in a few years -- could end in four, if the GOP savages Obama, which it will surely try to do. Then, where does that leave Kerry. Maybe that's what he wants. Maybe he's looking for a high note on which to retire. I don't really know. If it were me, I'd keep the day job.

10. I think he'd get eight years with Obama as President
This country is entering a Dem era and it'll be a while before the word "Republican" has regained any respectability. And Obama would be no Jimmy Carter--he knows how to work in Washington without getting thrown out.

JK would be 65 at the start of Obama's two terms, and 73 at the end. What do guys like him do after that? Maybe the U.N. or some other senior statesman's position. The Dems will probably go on in majority after Obama's terms are finished.

14. I'd like to see an entire cabinet of smart folks who have been dissed and dismissed by the right,
Plus a heap of advisors who actually advise rather than lobby.
