One for the end of the road? Merry Clinton knocks back whisky on campaign plane (Pics0
Edited on Thu May-29-08 11:36 AM by DogPoundPup
Hillary Clinton took time out from her punishing campaign schedule to enjoy a glass of whiskey with a group of journalists.

The Democratic presidential hopeful was flying back from Rapid City in South Dakota, one of the few states yet to hold its primary when she decided to let her hair down a little.

Her relaxed mood may give rise to speculation she is preparing to concede to her Democratic rival Barak Obama.

and I don't begrudge her some serious time off once this is done. But it isn't done yet, at least according to her;)

I don't know... I'm a 51yo woman, my friends and I have different ways of relaxing now than we did when we were, say 25yo. Throwing back a few cold ones with a bunch of guys you've just met in a bar just seems a tad bit immature, undignified maybe, for a woman of my age. I can't really find the words I am searching for, so I guess I'll stop here before I offend anyone or make an dope of myself:blush:

29. As a past-middle aged woman myself who enjoys a drink now and then,
I don't see why having a drink in public is sad. I've always heard that it's generally solitary drinkers who have a drinking problem. I haven't heard any reports about her being intoxicated on the campaign trail and I'm sure it would have made the news if she had been.

38. doesn't seem pathetic to me
And basically everything a candidate does is "public".

Candidate's and the reporters assigned to cover their campaigns effectively live with each other for months. That they would have a drink at the end of the day together is hardly surprising and not in the least pathetic. As for the "past middle aged woman" remark -- well, I'm just going to hope that doesn't reflect some view on your part that a "past middle aged woman" should be held to a different standard than a "past middle aged man". And I doubt anyone would think a 60 year old public figure having a drink with a bunch of reporter (or having a drink on other occasions where drinking is going on) is somehow "pathetic."

I'm an Obama supporter who worried when this thread was started that it would bring out puritan/moralist posts criticizing HRC for drinking or claiming that because she's been photographed having a drink on a few occasions she must have a drinking problem.

Lighten up already.

Its quarter to three,
Theres no one in the place cept you and me
So set em up joe
I got a little story I think you oughtta know

Were drinking my friend
To the end of an episode
So make it one for my baby
And one more for the road

I know the routine
Put another quarter in that there machine
Im feeling so bad
Wont you make the music easy and sad

I could tell you a lot
But you gotta to be true to your code
So make it one for my baby
And one more for the road

Youd never know it
But buddy Im a kind of poet
And Ive got a lot of things I wanna say
And if Im gloomy, please listen to me
Till its all, all talked away

Well, thats how it goes
And joe I know youre gettin anxious to close
So thanks for the cheer
I hope you didnt mind
My bending your ear

But this torch that I found
Its gotta be drowned
Or it might explode
So make it one for my baby
And one more for the road http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_for_My_Baby_(and_One_More_for_the_Road)

53. Iiiiiiiiiiiiimmanuel Kant was a real pissant
who was very rarely stable.
Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar
who could think you under the table.
David Hume could out consume
Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel,
And Wittgenstein was a beery swine
who was just as sloshed as Schlegel.

There's nothing Nietzsche couldn't teach ya
'bout the raisin' of the wrist.
Socrates himself was permanently pissed.

John Stuart Mill, of his own free will
after half a pint of shandy was particularly ill.
Plato, they say, could stick it away,
'alf a crate of whiskey every day!
Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle,
and Hobbes was fond of his Dram.
And Rene Descartes was a drunken fart:
"I drink, therefore I am."

Yes, Socrates himself is particularly missed;
A lovely little thinker, but a bugger when he's pissed.

Cheers, Senator Clinton! Nothing wrong with having an adult beverage.
