Why is it all over on Saturday?
I've seen some people say this will all be over on Saturday or June 3rd or whatever. What's the deal with this again? A rules committee meeting or something? I'm going out of town for a few days and will be away from the computer and DU and I'm just wondering when we can look forward to a resolution.

1. The Rules Committee is Saturday, Puerto Rico is Sunday, MT and SD (the last primaries) are Tuesday

4. Thanks
So the thought is that if Clinton doesn't concede by then, the rest of the superdelegates will come out?

Will the Saturday rules meeting definitely resolve the FL & MI issues once and for all?

Sorry, I haven't really closely followed how this works and I'm being really lazy here. :P

5. The opinion of the committe can be appealed
to the credentials committe who Howard Dean appoints. After that it can be appealed to the convention floor.

7. OK, that's what I was afraid of
So even though it's over it may still not be "technically" over over unless enough SDs come out for Obama soon?

3. Even if Clinton got all she wants in her "it's all about me" strategy,
it won't be enough to move her in the lead, superdelegates will make their move and endorse the candidate who ends up with the most delegates, and Obama will be the Democratic nominee.

Clinton will officially run out of places to move her goalposts on Saturday.

6. So there are a few possibilities?
On Saturday FL & MI get resolved, and she could potentially concede then.

If not, there are a few primaries left and she might concede on Monday morning?

And if not, then the SDs will come out early next week?

So best case scenario it's over on Saturday, worst case some time next week?

9. It will "officially" be over after SD and Montana vote on 6-3-08.
Edited on Thu May-29-08 12:52 PM by AtomicKitten
There aren't many who want to see this go to the convention (only the most strident Clinton people), and the SDs will move to end this by supporting the candidate with the most delegates as per DNC rules. Pelosi has a posse who have pledged to do this.

* "officially" as in for all intents and purposes - the truth is Hillary will probably be contesting this mess after Obama is inaugurated, but the party will move on.

10. Although people keep stating that it will "officially" be over next
week, in reality it may be "un-officially' be settled then, but not officially. The delegates, super or non, do not officially vote until the actual convention, nothing is official until then. Hillary can and probably will stay in - not concede - until the convention, and as she has inelegantly pointed out - shit happens.

11. What's the worst case scenario for the coming week?
The rules committee makes a decision that Clinton doesn't like. She appeals the decision. Obama doesn't quite have enough SDs to get the media to declare him the winner. This drags on as-is for a while? What's the likelihood of that scenario happening?
