Women For Obama - Check in here please
Edited on Thu May-29-08 05:59 PM by Gilligan
Okay - I am sick of this crap. One more anti Obama post on how he can not be elected and I will throw this computer through my office window and into my canyon. The last straw was the OP suggesting women will not vote for the guy. I for one do not decide to vote for a person because of their gender. - Just for whom I TRUST more.

As a white, 51 year old WOMAN I want to know how many other women agree with me on this board and please sound of on why you are voting for Obama.

I am voting for him because he has been against the war from day one and because I have far more trust in him than I do the other candidate. There are other reasons but that's all I care to post right now. I will not say anything negative about Senator Clinton here, instead I just want you to weigh in.

(edit to fix strange sentence structure)

193. This 63 year old Honkie
Tonker is voting for Obama because he's wants to implement the change in D.C. from the greedy corporate, business as usual(environment can go in the toilet) that admins like the clintons and bushites maintain as status quo with the invaluble assistance from the CorporateMediaWhores.. and hilary already showed me in Oct ,2002 that she wasn't Prez material.

And, it turns out Obama wrote this magnificent speech in Oct, 2002 that I knew nothing about until this year or I would have been a supporter of his from the get-go(What a trip that would have been).

<snips>

"What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income - to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression. That's what I'm opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics. Now let me be clear - I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity. He's a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him.

But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history. I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a US occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of Al Qaeda. I am not opposed to all wars. I'm opposed to dumb wars."

<conslusion snip>

The consequences of war are dire, the sacrifices immeasurable. We may have occasion in our lifetime to once again rise up in defense of our freedom, and pay the wages of war. But we ought not -- we will not -- travel down that hellish path blindly. Nor should we allow those who would march off and pay the ultimate sacrifice, who would prove the full measure of devotion with their blood, to make such an awful sacrifice in vain."

I'm not just going to vote for him, I've donated, volunteered, worn buttons and t-shirts all over the place and
talked many others into voting for him. :D

All women are not the same, DUH! That assumption is pretty sexist, IMO. I'll vote for a woman when one runs that I believe
will make the best president of all the candidates to choose from. I don't base my choice on gender, race, age, or ethnicity.
to me, it's holistic, not just one issue, not just one talent, not just one idea - the total person is what I vote for. Hillary has some great points -
AND some serious flaws. Barack seems more balanced to me, more trustworthy, and more in touch with the times and the people.

177. Welcome to DU sammyko ~ Senior AA woman
that is not voting for Obama because he is Black.

I am voting for him because he celebrates all colors all religions all economic levels, women and men.

I can't figure out why they continue the mime that Black people are only voting for him because he is Black.

To our ears it sounds so insane. Most of my friends, of every race, are voting for him because he does not promise any race anything.

The beauty of OBAMA is that he celebrates everyone and he wants each one of us to be judged by "the content of our characters."

I am voting for him also because he opposed the war. The video of him in 2002 saying exactly what was going to happen if we invaded Iraq just blew me away. Then I read his first book. I was completely sold. I love this guy (in a voter-candidate sort of way). I will be so excited to have him as the president! I can't wait to see him sitting in the oval office. Then I will finally feel like an adult is in charge; A level headed intelligent even tempered adult.
Also, every speech I watch I am more and more inspired! I have never been so emotionally moved like this by a politician.:D

20. I started out supporting Clinton....but
I switched to Obama shortly after Super Tuesday. She and her campaign started their screeching, whining and I could not take it. I'm a 39 y/o white woman. Her generation opened many doors for my generation. I'm appreciative, but she's using her gender as a crutch, an excuse and that is not only deflating for me as a woman, it is disgusting.

My 59 y/o white mother will also be voting for Obama.

23. White, 55 year old woman FOR OBAMA
I was originally supporting John Edwards. When he dropped out, I chose Obama over Clinton, because I believed he had fewer corporate ties, and was clearly against the occupation of Iraq from the beginning. To me, Clinton is much closer to McCain than she is to Obama, based on her campaign of late. If we nominate Clinton, people will find it easy to vote for McCain because they are both warmongers.

I heard HRC say that NAFTA-GATT provided lots of jobs to US citizens--I want to know how many decent jobs this trade act has provided versus how many decent jobs lost!!!! Daughter is in military, definitely not voting to continue a flawed, "lied into" occupation.

I like his position and ideas related to poverty http://www.barackobama.com/issues/poverty/
One of my favorites is his 'establish 20 promise neighborhoods' idea. More info is at the link.

I also like his ideas for education http://www.barackobama.com/issues/education/ . I am a teacher so this is an important area for me.

Those are two areas that really stood out for me. Of course I like his whole Blueprint for Change. The fact that he has always been against the war is important to me as well.

34. 61 y.o. WHITE woman for Obama!
High school and college in the 60's--I lived with "coloured only" water fountains, blacks having to sit at the back of the bus, having to sit in the balcony at the movies, segregated schools, the race riots. Obama speaks to my very heart, and I think he is the ONLY candidate running who can bring this country together. Another reason that I want to see him as President is because I want so desperately to believe that our country has overcome racism sufficiently enough that we COULD elect a black president. I don't care what anyone else says--he DOES represent CHANGE!

35. Don't let it get to you, they're grasping at straws in desperation, just think of all the people
who've worked across this country to help him win this primary, all of the people who filled the stadiums, all of the people who are registered Republican and couldn't vote for him in the primary and are tired of what Bush and his thugs have done to this country. They're all waiting to vote in November, I believe he's going to do it and it's going to be by a large margin. I don't know why posting the stuff you're talking about benefits Hillary or the Democratic party, the best thing to do is to use it as test-drive for the kind of stuff we'll see in the GE and practice responding.

Here's a slice of peace:

He has the higher ground on the IWR and McCain can't use a vote for the IWR against him in the GE

I trust him not to shift the party as far to the right as Clinton. She's WAY too cozy with the VWRC for comfort

I like his ideas and intent to at least make an effort toward changing our policies. I don't expect him to get full cooperation, but at least he'll break some ground.

42. I'm a white working class, middle aged single mother for OBAMA-
and I happily share my belief that he is the best candidate for this nation with anyone and everyone.

I am sick and tired of the way "polls" have come to dictate (and in my opinion- sway) what the American public "says". I say it's a bunch of hooey- and subliminal manipulation.

I will NEVER believe that 70% of the "American People" approved of the Iraq war- I sure as hell didn't- and the vast majority of my friends and neighbors didn't either. None of us 'cast a vote' to back up the 70% assertion. All it is is propaganda.

peace~

and pretty dang pasty to boot ;) ..I am voting for Senator Obama because he is the best candidate for the office.. I live in Iowa, and unfortunately Senator Clinton made a very poor impression before the caucuses here.. Her attitude was that we were going to walk in lock step and vote for her..She can be quite dismissive in her attitudes.. she started singing a different song after Iowa when the results came back.. but let us just say.. We have a better candidate in Senator Obama..

I was surprised when a repug wife(a good friend of mine), that blocked her driveway so that no one would park there during my party, was second in line (two hours before we started handing them out) the morning we handed out tickets to the Obama Town Hall near by. I told her I was surprised and she said she changed to a democrat to vote for him smiling very big! There were a lot more I found out about at the rally! It is very refreshing to meet other people who think!

as the first option.

I think if we keep engaging in the same war think, we are going to have to re institute the draft. I think before we let our military come apart at the seams, Republicans will take drastic measures.

I don't think we as Americans are tough because we have one of the largest militaries. I think we are tough because we are willing to go without in order to stabilize the world with our food, technology, and commerce. I think we are tough because we don't always shoot when we are threatened.

We need a change.

Obama has run a good campaign, which seems to be an indicator of how he could run the USA.

64. Won't say the age white woman voting for Obama!
Why?

I could name a dozen reasons...

The anti war vote
The Womans right to choose stance
The College Student grant if you get involved in your community (that's what makes a community)
His willingness to admit errors, and yet be strong enough to move above them
His foreign policy stance, he was right about what would happen in Iraq, it happened.... He thinks talking to friends & foes alike, for many generations we did JUST THAT with success, but now we in this country have walled ourselves off as if we are in some insulated cell....

Did I say I really like his foreign policy stance?? That's what first drew me

There are other reasons, transparency legislation, all sorts of small (sarcasm) stuff like that that proves again and again he's on the mark

80. I am a woman for Obama
I am not voting because of race or gender. I came to him slowly as I had two others picked out 1st and 2nd.

I feel he can represent all of us and I feel he can do a great job mending fences all over the world because he is willing to talk and negotiate. He represents a new beginning and a fresh perspective and I feel that if the nation is going to make it we really need a new direction, we can't do that using worn out, non working ideas or political maneuvers that will only cost us more in the long run.

I prefer his kind of gentle spirit over the harsh and abrasive personality of the past. I'm not in the mood for meanness, divisiveness, wars, contempt, or self absorbed "decider's" anymore. Oh and the fact that he can put whole sentences together and can pronounce nuclear is a plus. :7

I have many reasons I have chosen to vote for Senator Obama, these were the easy answers, I've had a hard day at work and I need a rest now.

On a side note, my husband lost his job yesterday. It's fairly catastrophic for us. Just hope the economy is not so completely wiped out by the time Obama does get in office..........

87. Below is what got me to Obama but how he has led his campaign is why I am now 100% in the tank.
From my journal, Thursday April 3rd:

I came into this election cycle a major Clarkie. General Clark's testimony to congress in the run up to the Iraq war inspired me to the draft Clark movement. I was disappointed he decided not to attempt a second run. I was left with no real connection to the committed candidates. So I just sat on the side lines for a while.

Being from the Chicago suburbs with all Republican relatives and in-laws I have spent over a decade defending President Clinton. I did it proudly with no regret.I have always referred to the Clinton-Gore Administration as the "salad days". My husband and I made our way in the nineties with our young family after the Regan years had forced my husband to join the military to find work. If it wasn't for those "salad days" we would not be where we are today. I wish my children had the same opportunity (G-DAMN George Bush). So I have a soft spot for the Clinton's and the Gore family. I was able to see the Clinton Library in '04 and left in tears at how much they accomplished and how much the current resident destroyed.(G-DAMN George Bush)

Well I had heard a bit about Obama being my State Senator and then my new Senator, loved the speech at the convention. Appreciated the speech before the war, but other than that I didn't know too much. I never payed to much attention to local politics coming from moving about as an Army wife. Then Wes Clark endorsed Hillary so I figured that's where I would concentrate my attention. I studied her positions and accomplishments and admire her for being so tough. I decided to commit to advocating for her as our nominee. This put me on the defensive 95% of the time. I felt it was really unfair. I would just mention her and people would immediately have a negative reaction. Republican and Democrat alike. "Why..what is your reason for feeling this way?" I would ask. The majority of the time there would be no substantial reason. Most of it had to do with Bill and the clenis if I was speaking to a Republican and Democrats and those in between really had no good reason for the negativity. I thought Hillary was getting a really bad rap for no reason. Frustrating....she didn't deserve it.

I am a huge fan of Senator Durbin. He really is the best. He is a true public servant. He has personally helped my husband and I in a battle with the military which had my husband career and freedom at stake (long crazy story). We had contacted all our elected officials and Senator Durbin was not only the only one to respond but personally saw through the whole matter till it was quickly resolved. So when Senator Durbin has something to say he has my attention. I listened to what he had to say about Senator Obama. I didn't realize Senator Durbin was instrumental in convincing Barak to run until I saw this:
http://video.aol.com/video-detail/sen-durb...

Here was one of the most liberal politicians and a much loved political hero, how could I not listen. Then I was floored to hear that one of our most popular Republican State Senators, Kirk Dillard, was being raked over the right wing coals for endorsing Obama in the primaries and even appearing in spots for Obama in Iowa:
http://illinoisreview.typepad.com/illinois...

Being so sick and tired of the blinding divisions in our country this peaked my interest. While still defending Hillary and trying to be true to my other hero, General Clark, I started to listen to the message of Barak Obama.

My family and in-laws are from the south side of Chicago. I was raised in a racially charged environment. My relatives migrated here from Norway and Sweden, in-laws are Eastern Europe and england by way of Kansas. Many settled in the Roseland community on the South Side. The civil rights movement found deepening divisions in Chicago and politicians answer to these divides made things worse. The expansion of Caprini Green and other "projects" on the south side cemented the anger and bitterness for generations. My relatives began the "white flight" south suburb migration as the housing towers went up, the business closed and the grass disappeared. The blame was misplaced. The loss of community was wrongly blamed on the black families forced into these concrete prisons that where anything but "green". Then to compound these issues for the next generation and cement the divisions and bad feelings between the communities, politicians decided to force desegregation by mandatory busing. There was no building understanding between the two worlds. Hearts and minds were not opened...just slammed shut. My relatives felt communities they built again, the brand new high school they just opened up would all be taken over again by poverty, crime and concrete. It was wrong to feel that way but that's all they knew, it happened before. That is why they are Republicans. Racism makes them republicans. No communication and no understanding makes them republicans. Fear makes them republicans.

I've given up on some and some I just pity. My mother-in-law sits in her south suburban kitchen and counts the increasing number of black people who walk by. Her husband just retired and with the fixed income refuses her requests to move from the house they have long paid off. The fear she holds onto is deep seeded from her parents who moved her from Roseland. The fear is not a result from the problem but one of the root causes.
And in the bigger picture of what our beloved country has become under republican rule is the fear and bigotry. This country can never prosper again until it heals. This country can never address the atrocities perpetrated by these republicans with any credibility until we address the fear and bigotry that divides us on our own soil. Whether it's race, gender or social or religious, until the people of the United States of America can stop seeing the world through this divided prism of bigotry, hate, and fear, we will destroy ourselves from within. I feel the next generation is ready. I am ready.
But how did it all go so wrong, so fast? Bush could not have done it alone. Dividing the country for them was easy because of the fear and bigotry had already been there and as bad as Bush has been for ALL of us, it has not been a cure for republican rule. People in this country will continue to vote against their best interest because of fear and bigotry. You can see it all around us. I feel as though the time is right to unite but we need that communication. We need a new message to pass on to the next generation. The current political climate must change.
I listened to Senator Clinton as she spoke of horrible policies of the Bush administration and the need for change. That is a message we democrats are way past waiting for. It feels like forever. I think she could help our image in the world community because of the regard for Bill Clinton. Though, I have to ask myself how long that would last if we don't address the issues of division and fear that keep the republicans in power.
The reality is the Clintons are divisive and polarizing and I am saddened by this because I don't believe it to be their fault. I defended her. I really feel the attacks on her (and Bill) in the past are disgusting. But it is what it is. Then her message changed and I knew it had to be. She was behind and had to attack on whatever weak points her campaign perceived. But the politics used to win were those of division and fear, the 3:00 am call, cozying up to McCain, "as far as I know" comment, ect..and in the desperation to be seen as experienced, the Bosnia embellishments. Well it was then I knew the inspiration I was looking for to unite us was not going to come from her.
Then Reverend Wright. What a true lesson that was for me. Senator Obama's speech addressed the very issue that I felt was one of the core issues facing this country. The fear and bigotry I grew up with. The reasons that reasonable people would act so unreasonable as to vote in fear against their best interest. Communication and leadership is what we crave. Inspiration to see things from both sides. I can understand where Reverend Wright is coming from but we have to move beyond. I can understand where my mother-in-law is coming from but we have to move beyond. Senator Obama said this so eloquently. I was inspired. Can my liberal Senator Dick Durbin and my Republican State Senator Kirk Dillard be right? Can a President Obama inspire us to move beyond the fear and bigotry and unite as a country again? How can I not be inspired to hope!

212. You should make this its own thread, it's wonderful.
I'm a Chicagoan (near northwest) from Appalachia. I agree especially with Senator Durbin's vetting and support for Obama being a major factor in my support of him from early on. Durbin is the most underrated Senator we have (voted AGAINST the IWR when he was up for re-election that year, HELLO, Wellstone was the only other to do that) and I've long wished he would run, but alas, among his good qualities is true humility. You really do need a pathological level of ambition to want that job, honestly. No disrespect intended to any candidate--it's a necessary "evil." So if he thought Obama was the real deal enough to nag him mercilessly, as he did, that's good enough for me to start with right there.

The post above was an op on April 3rd:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x5374817

I had posted it after Senator Obama's race speech. One of the greatest speeches given in my lifetime.

Senator Durbin is one of our greatest Senators working behind the scenes out of the spotlight doing whats right!

I hope he will one day be majority leader! :hi;

I call him the "little bulldog" (maybe it should be the "big bulldog") because of the way he tears in the bushies on the Senate floor. I have been so proud of my Senators.

He has come out proactively for habeas corpus, against torture, and for examining all of Bush's signing statements. Clinton, for her part, can't seem to commit to those things. I know she's a lot better than McCain on those issues, but I'll take the Constitutional scholar thank you very much.

Here are my reasons:

*He is against the war

*He is intelligent and thoughtful in his responses to questions and I agree with his foreign policy positions

*I believe he will choose excellent cabinet and other high level persons to get this country back in good standing

*He has run an excellent campaign whether through his own volition or that of his management team

*He has excited the young people of this country to vote and be involved like no other candidate in the past three decades

*I like him - he visited the steel mill where my Dad, Grandfather and Uncles (RIP) retired while he was in Pgh. He was genuine and not pretentious

*Michelle Obama will be a true First Lady. Not a prop.

*I trust him

is for Obama, although I have to admit I'm a convert. I was a Edwards fan but my spouse (older and whiter than me!) talked to me about Obama (after Edwards dropped out) and I began to pay attention. Main reason is his non-vote for the war! I lost a family member in Taji, Iraq (Feb 2005) and think the war should have ended in 2003 or should have never been started.

Mainly because he did not support the Iraq war and I think he's more likely to get us out of this mess quicker than Clinton. That's the number one reason I voted for him. If Hillary did not support the Iraq war from the beginning or even if she came out against it stronger and sooner, I'd be supporting her right now.

118. 30, white, lesbian in Vermont - My 20 reasons to vote Obama.
1. He tells the truth.

2. He was against the war in Iraq from the beginning.

3. He is seemingly the only candidate against a war with Iran.

4. He wants to talk to our friends AND our enemies.

5. He listens to all opinions, not just the ones agreeing with him.

6. Instead of breaking the rules, he mastered the game.

7. He has 1.5 million donors not a few high dollar donors.

8. He is not beholden to the corporations. (See above)

9. He is polite and courteous. Not defensive or complaining.

11. He has purposefully avoided being divisive. He wont "get rough" with other Democrats.

12. He is SHARP. He has a firm grasp of the issues and can explain and advocate for his position in a very persuasive way. Not because he's fooling us. But because he's RIGHT.

13. This is not about HIM. This is about US. WE are the change we've been waiting for.

14. He exhibits forgiveness and grace.

15. He was a community organizer - it takes a LOT more work and smarts than you think.

16. He is diplomatic and inclusive. He cordially and effectively works with all parties.

17. I know that he will try to do what is RIGHT, not just what is POPULAR.

18. He was endorsed by John Edwards, my first choice for President. John Kerry, my choice for President in 2004. Martin Sheen, my fake president. And Jimmy Carter, my former President. Others I took note of: Bill Richardson, Ted Kennedy, Patrick Leahy, Dick Durbin, Claire McCaskill, Tom Daschle, Russ Fiengold, Peter Welch, Tony Knowles, Adrian Fenty, Caroline Kennedy, Warren Buffett, Ben & Jerry, Michael Moore, Pearl Jam, Melissa Etheridge, Charlize Theron, Michael Stipe, Pink, Wyclef Jean, Bruce Springsteen, George Clooney, Joan Baez, John Legend, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and The Pittsburgh Steelers. :)

19. He very clearly loves his family and they very clearly love him back.

20. He inspires me to HOPE.

I would like to emphasize the diplomacy aspect of Obama, whether it is here at home or abroad. How long has it been since we have had leaders that believe in negotiations instead of using a big stick, or bombs, to get a point across? Being editor of the Harvard Law Review tells me he can see more than one side of an issue. Our Constitution is in need of repair and quickly.

Edit: Very old white lady that has lots of grandkids going for Obama in a very Red State.

I was a Kerry fan. I had to decide between Edwards and Obama after he decided not to run, because I've never cared for Hillary Clinton. I took a look at both candidates and decided while at first I did not like Obama as well as Kerry it seemed that he had the potential to be someone I could really get behind and he was such an inspiring speaker - which was something I've admired in Kerry. I feel like I can trust him, which I always felt about Kerry and I know I don't feel about Bush or Clinton. I think that's the most important thing to me - do I feel he's being honest - and I do. Also I like a smart candidate - I'm not saying Hillary Clinton isn't smart, but she's too cut-throat for me.

This campaign season has strengthened my negative opinion towards Hillary Clinton - before it was just an uneasy feeling - after seeing how she has run her campaign in such a negative way I feel that more strongly.

Honestly, Obama wasn't even my second choice in the primary - Edwards was second, Kucinich was first for me - but he's run a great campaign in the primary, he's attracting new voters, and he's still closer politically to my choices 1 and 2 than his opponent. Also, I believe he can (no, WILL) win the GE and I believe he can lead the nation back to some semblance of sanity.

That would be why I'm supporting him.

but the first and most important one, my family, many of which will still be, or become of draft age over the next several years. If anyone here believes that John McCain will not take us to war with Iran and that the draft will be avoided, you are clearly out of touch with reality and should seek medical attention as soon as possible. If you choose to sit out or vote for McCain in the fall, I hope your children or family members or friends, are the first to go fight in McCains 100 year war.

*Edited to add, that my mother is almost 60, and my 3 sisters are all older than I 40's and 30's, and we are all the whitest of white and we are all Obama supporters.

Happily, as the campaign has gone on, I've come to really appreciate his skill and grace and intelligence. I think he will make an excellent president.

Peace,

Obama wasn't my first choice. Al Gore was and ever will be my first choice, but he broke my heart for the second time in 6 years. After the heartbreak he suffered in '00, well, I can't say I blame him.
I started out preferring Biden, Dodd, Edwards, Kucinich, and Richardson over Obama initially, but I had been watching him too. I remembered his speech at the Democratic Convention in '04 which had been really impressive, and I had been keeping an eye on him in the Senate. I didn't think at the beginning that he really had the experience yet, and that's really the main drawback I had at the time.
Over the course of the campaign though, he continued to impress me with his ability to inspire not only those of us who are actively interested and involved in politics, but people who had not previously been politically aware at all - especially young Americans of all colors. I was impressed by the way he ran his campaign, too. It was not top-heavy with inside-the-Beltway consultants, it was grassroots. He managed his money well, and he managed his message well.
I like his positions on a number of issues. I really like that he's been a community organizer, and I think it shows in his campaign. If he runs the country like that I think we'll be better off.
I really really like that he is a civil rights lawyer, and I love that he has taught constitutional law. We need someone in the WH who actually has reverence and respect for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights - and who understands it!
Over the course of the campaign he has managed to grow on me, to the point that I now believe he can do it. I think he's got the potential to be a truly great president, and a strong leader. I really hope so. We need one this time, like we have perhaps never needed one before.

Obama got me with a line from one of the later debates "The world is watching". The stature and standing of our country has been so damaged by this administration, and I believe that Obama can do a lot to repair it. He has impressed me more as the campaign has gone on (and on and on).

Not to mention that McCain terrifies me, and that word doesn't begin to describe my sentiment.

supporting Obama.

There are many reasons why I support Senator Obama. I appreciate the fact that he understands the issues and talks to voters as thinking adults rather than spoon feeding them talking point politics. I do believe he is a very strong and inspirational leader. He encourages people to become more involved, which is what we desperately need in this country. He was against the war on day one. He was right. He does represent a change from the politics of divisiveness and special interests. I appreciate that.

I believe that he will tackle issues in a way that moves things forward. I want open and honest debate. I don't want Rs and Ds picking opposing sides of an issue and using the talking points to pander to voters. I want a LEADER who tells the truth and exercises that leadership to find the right solutions.

I trust him, I respect him and I am optimistic about our Country's future with him as President.

174. OBAMA, OBAMA, OBAMA ALL THE WAY
I'm so determined I'll vote for Obama that should SHE steal the nomination I'm writing in Obama on my ballot.

America has been through one of the darkest times in our short history and Obama has been a wind of change. I'm in my late 50's and I love the appeal he has to young people and the creative flow I've seen him tap into in people. Mark Morford wrote a great article at the San Francisco Gate which hit on the sixth sense appeal of Obama and how he feels right on a very intuitive level, which really resonated with me.

I don't know how much he'll accomplish, however, if he just opens the door for Americans to take a good long look at what a government responsible to We the People can do for them and change our perception of government then I will judge his Administration a success.

Why am I supporting him because he has said things that I've felt and in words I've used. Over the past seven-and-one-half years I've spent time wondering what would happen if We the People pooled our money together to donate to a candidate of choice - and WOW along came Obama doing just that!

My 77-year-old female cousin was on the fence until Clinton was in the St Patrick's Day parade with the local yokels--now she's Obama.

All the local (Jefferson County, WV) Democratic women state delegates are for Obama; in fact, 7 of us had filed to be national delegates for Obama.

189. 55, soon to be 56 y/o white woman who supports Obama
I would love to see a valid female as President of the United States of America. But NOT Hillary Clinton.

I do not agree with many of her votes, especially relating to the Iraq 'War' and it's funding. But most of all, the Bush, Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush and Bush dynasties scare the shit out of me.
To continue that with another Clinton is truly frightening.

194. 59-year-old former president of local NOW chapter
I originally volunteered for John Edwards in NH, but I voted for Obama in the Massachusetts primary after Edwards dropped out. I have huge trust issues with Hillary Clinton that have nothing to do with her being a woman and lots to do with her votes for the Iraq War Resolution and the Kyl-Lieberman Amendment giving Bush the green light to invade Iran. Her refusal to admit to mistakes and her slow learning curve when it comes to giving away powers to the executive branch that should belong to Congress disqualifies her in my mind. My 30-year-old daughter is also an Obama supporter because she thinks he is smart and cool.

Being an Ill-annoyin' and all. One more time will be cake. Voting for him is easy. I can do it in my sleep (and it's a nice dream). I can't wait. :hi:

edit: since we're doing demographics, I'm a 38-year-old half-Latina half-white woman.
For the record, my parents live in rural VA (one of the counties Hillary won), and they're not only voting for him, they're sending him lots more money than I can afford to. (Decades of Republican--and pro-NAFTA anti-union--government means that obviously I'm not as well off as my folks were at my age, much less now.)

I was for Edwards, and I have switched to Obama. That an African American could be/will be president is a thrill. I did not think I would live to see this.

While I admired Sen. Clinton and was tickled she was elected to the Senate, she lost me at the flag burning amendment. When she voted for the AUMF, I was not surprised but I had hoped for more. Had she been braver and voted no, I think she would have been the candidate today.

I look forward to an Obama presidency. I look forward to a principled administration that will restore our Constitution and rehabilitate our standing in the world. I want the grownups in charge again.

I have three women friends who are much like me, and they are Obama enthusiasts as well.

That said, I am a 53 year old Irish, English, Scottish, Greek and Cherokee woman. I want to see the change I believe that Obama will bring!!!

If you can't read a post, disagree with it, and move on, you probably shouldn't be on GDP. Many people believe Obama is going to have problems winning many states (on and off this board). Obviously, the type of poster you are referring to isn't saying that ALL women won't vote for him. They are probably saying that many women won't vote for him, or a small number might not vote for him (that would still change the result of the election). Should such a poster be more clear? Yes. But if you really read a post like that and think that you are being told that you won't for Obama, you probably shouldn't be reading GDP.

I think you did not get the reason for my post.

Here goes:

I really think you have bought into the republican/hillary spin. Women will not vote for a man - no, it is a black man... no he is worse than that... He called me sweetie.

Paleeze... I have a brain and do not need you to tell me what I read. I saw it and so did many people here. It was clear.

We are bubble headed idiots who will vote for someone's genitals instead of someone's policies. It is so sad. All of the women who have posted on this OP are the minority - There is a massive SILENT majority just waiting to have their say.

Heck I supported him in 2004 and I see no reason to change my mind now. I have two older sisters that voted for him in the primary and a daughter who has supported him as long as I have. I have a son who has also, but you only asked about the women. Hillary may think she has the women tied up but she doesn't. That is just a spin the MSM is helping her to sell.

The reason I am voting for him is that I read about his stances and supported him by volunteering before I met him. After I met him and talked with him on about six different occasions (could have been more or less, I'm not sure), and heard him answer mine and others questions, I was determined to continue to support him whenever he ran and for whatever office he ran for. I have done that, and I hope that he is the first person that I know personally that gets elected president. Don't get me wrong, he wouldn't know me from Adam. He has met thousands of people since he met me. I am not delusional. But for me, he made a difference. After bush's election, 9/11, and people following bush without question: I had given up hope of things ever changing. He made me believe that if we all worked together this country could be what we wanted it to be, not only as good as it had been, but better. Win or lose, I believe he is the best person for the job. It's a job interview you know, and I want to hire Barack for president.

Edited to add, that I am pinkish in color although everyone tells me that I am white.

Reminds me of when I was among the first female phone installers, in 1978.
My supervisor told me he didn't want me there because I would use too much toilet paper.
The guys constantly planted tampons in my stuff, so they would fall out all over the place when I least expected it- often in front of customers.
They stole my tools. I had to pay for them. Pricks!
I cried many hot tears of rage and humiliation.
Some men will say and do whatever they can get away with.

Hillary does not speak for me. She is unethical, has strong=arming politics, bad judgement, and she is bad with money as well as her campaign. I couldn't vote for her under any circumstances. She isn't worthy and I'm sorry but that is my opinion.

Oh puh-leese! I'm a survivor, and I am one because I can think quite well using my old noodle. My identity doesn't begin or end if there is a woman or a man, for that matter, in the White House.

Our generation has always had a thing about generalizing and conformity. I don't like them generalizing about my sex, and I don't conform to the Hillary Machine telling the media, who tell their readers/listeners that women (especially us Boomers) are uniting because we want her as our president.

Go Obama!

I have 2 grand-daughters, 7 & 11. SCOTUS is of paramount importance to me, for them & my grandson. There's a long list of other reasons I'm liking Obama (listed all through this thread!) - but preserving their rights starts there.

As a flaming, bleeding heart liberal, Dennis Kucinich has my heart. But Barack Obama got my vote in the primary, and he'll have it in the general, too.

I just want to say to Hillary supporters that this primary is in no way a setback to women. When Barack breaks down those barriers to the White House, he will blaze a trail for women, Asians, Hispanics, and every group that hasn't been represented in the highest office in the land. The Democratic party has a great big tent. Sure, some days it's a three ring circus under it, but there is room for all of us. We're not like Republicans. We don't pit one group against another. We're better than that. Maybe we've forgotten it at times during this primary, but I believe come November, we will stand united and the Republicans will divide and fall.

AND I do NOT want them to count the primary votes in Florida (or MI) "as is" (hillary style) damn it - the Florida Dems screwed us and broke the rules- they cannot expect them to be changed now just because their candidate is worried that she is going to loose an election she assumed would be handed to her.

I am an Obama supporter because he is not going to change the game- he is going to END the game. An end to corporations running our country, an end to the destruction of our personal and civil rights that the current administration has clearly done, an end to the Iraq war, an end to pandering to the Bush crime family, an end to the Iraq war which he never supported, unlike Clinton, and an end to "business as usual". It's time- the country and our world desperately needs a leader like Obama.

308. White, 55-year-old female checking in here.
From California, where last I saw, there were stories citing voters here who said if they had to hold our primary all over again, California would not go to Clinton, but rather to Obama. They called it "buyers' remorse" in one article I read.

I still deeply appreciate Hillary Clinton. Deeply. She will always mean something very special, very dedicated, very smart, very committed to working for the good of all (especially those who have been stuck with hind teat for at least the past seven-and-some years, if not dating all the way back to the miseries of the reagan administration). She's already broken one major glass ceiling in being a viable presidential candidate, and she was a First Lady who didn't just sit there and smile and bake cookies and pose with Girl Scouts. She's believed from the beginning that government can and should be a force for good, which is how I look at it, myself. I remember back when I first read her quotes saying that - back during the dawn of the Clinton era, and I also remember how gratified I felt in hearing that - the very idea that someone coming into power in Washington, FINALLY, was bringing this philosophy in with them - to implement, after years of the politics of cheap-ass, short-sighted selfishness and IGMFU that reagan/bush-the-first started shoving down America's throats with a vengeance. Yes, the Clintons didn't get it all done, they made mistakes, they didn't hit one out of the ballpark every time, or even some of the time. But they brought that mindset back into the federal government where it belongs, and that meant the world to me. It meant that the have-nots might actually have more of a chance than before, instead of it being ALWAYS for the haves and the have-mores.

426. The Clintons
?

April 24, 2008

A picture is worth a thousand words. And there are thousands of pictures of the Bushes and the Clintons all of which in the end speak quite clearly about the Clintons and the Bushes.

When Georgette Moschacher made the comment about "It's all about the money, honey" she obviously wasn't just speaking about the Republicans but about Democrats and about this new party of the Bushes and the Clintons called the Republicrat Party.

Apparently 100 million dollars later some just refuse to see the picture.

475. Mistaken assumption.
I don't support HRC, either.

Neither of the current two neoliberals have my support.

Kucinich has my support because of his positions on issues, and because he's willing to actually stand and work for those positions.

I didn't "jump" ship when he dropped out. I never believed the Democratic Party would nominate him. I didn't even adopt his avatar until there was no one left standing but the current two neoliberals; a symbolic statement about the kind of Democrat who earns my support. And the kind that doesn't.

I still support Dennis Kucinich in his efforts in the House. I hope Golub beats Pelosi. We need a different Speaker, and I think that's the best position for him at this point.

I'm a 52 year-old Ojibwa/Irish/French woman from MICHIGAN, no less. I wasn't thrilled with Obama at first (I was a Gore hopeful), but the more I read and saw, the more I became impressed with Obama. I really like how he handles a punch. He's practically inflappable. I like that. I think Clinton has run a despicable, inept campaign and it makes me ashamed to me a woman. She didn't give a flying f**** about Michigan OR Florida voters until it became in her best interest to do so. I've had it with lying, self-serving politicians. What was it with that whole Bosnia thing? What a bone-headed move on her part. I'm still not 100% sure about Obama, but he's heads and shoulders above everyone else running. I'd love to live to see a woman take the Oath of Office, but I surely hope it isn't Hillary Clinton.

What's with the current flap about the pastor who is filling in at Obama's church? Now they're trying to dirty Obama with what he said, and Obama wasn't there and, as far as I've read, doesn't even know the guy. The whole "controversy" really reeks of desperation.

He wasn't my first choice - or even my 2nd - but over the past 3 months, I've come to think he's pretty much the only chance we have to bring this country back to what most of us recognize it to have been.

It's become a battle of "DLC vs. DNC" and since Howard Dean is my personal Jesus, and Obama was one of the original DFA "Dean Dozen", I'm on the Obama-wagon. :-)

I have been against the war from the beginning. My children (10 and 12) don't even remember a time when they didn't attend anti war protests. Sen Obama represents change through diplomacy over threatening rhetoric. Sen Obama's positive campaign and his attempt to unify not only the party but the country I believe is what attracts so many young people to get involved.

I was for Edwards first and voted for him on Super Tuesday even though he had dropped out (hoping it would get him a delegate for bargaining purposes). I'm now for Obama. Hillary has been my LAST choice since the primaries began.

Don't ANYONE even TRY to tell me I'm "anti-woman". I've been a feminist and supported feminist organizations all of my adult life.

my support has gotten stronger because he hasn't looked like a little whiner and has apologized for verbal gaffes, whatever, instead of trying to lie about them or justify them.

edited to add:

as I scanned down the list of posts it struck me how many of us more...."experienced"..... women are for Obama

The way the MSM are talking, one would think that the only white women for Obama are all under the age of 35 or so.

not true!!!!!!

the MSM either lie, or their polls suck.

probably both.

Been for Obama since the day he announced. All the women I know are for Obama. First thing that got me was her vote for the war. But then came the thousands of other reasons.....not enough time or space to list them all.

As a young feminist, I have been deeply offended by so many things Hillary has said and done in this campaign. She has disappointed me as a woman, and she has only made the glass ceiling even thicker.

For the "queer" part, there is no candidate running today with whom I'm 100% comfortable, but that's usually true. Same would be true if I were to insist that our candidate take 100% progressive positions, but that's also generally not an option at the POTUS level.

Given all of that built-in compromise, for the most part I look at Obama and I like what I see.

He's been against the occupation of Iraq since day one.

He communicates without condescension.

He will change Washington (it will not be very fast, but he may be able to do some good work in 8 years).

He's handled his campaign with grace and is running it like a successful business (which it is).

On a personal note, he has inspired me to become very involved this campaign season, and no matter what happens I'm smarter now than I was one year ago :)

There's more, but I'm sure all of these points have already been made.

I forgot to mention that I was lucky enough to see both Edwards & Obama in Grand Rapids when Edwards endorsed Obama. I haven't been that inspired since the day before RFK was assassinated. I was a year too young to vote in 1968, but I saw a rosy future in front of us with Kennedy at the helm. I grew up really fast on June 9, 1968. I couldn't believe that Clinton brought up RFK's murder as "justification" for staying in the primary race. It made me physically ill to hear her utter those words.

I am convinced that woman would not fight for anyone unless there was something in it for her personally.

Back to Grand Rapids--that's a hotbed of Republicanism. (I feel like a salmon swimming upstream most of the time!) It's the home of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library (What a snooze that is!) Golf tees, anyone?? The doors to Obama's rally were supposed to open at 5:00 p.m. for the 7:00 talk, but so many people were lined up by 3:00--with the ensuing traffic hazard--the arena is on the main east-west downtown drive route. They began letting folks in at 3. By 5:00 (the time the doors were supposed to have opened) the arena was packed and the Fire Marshall refused to allow any one else in. Van Andel (yup, Amway) holds 12,000, and it was bursting at the seams by 5:00 p.m.--not even SRO. That's unheard of in this town! There were approximately 1,000-1,500 milling around outside, even though they couldn't get in. The amazing thing is that they didn't leave! The crowd was there to see Obama--people didn't even know Edwards was arriving.

There are no words to describe how awesome that rally was. A public speaker hasn't moved me to tears since I heard a tape of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. Obama's message of faith, courage, hope and responsibility made tears roll down my cheeks. Grown men were crying. If he can generate such deep emotions in the heart of Amway Republicans, I have more hope in the future than I have in quite some time.

Megwetch,

Diane

371. Another 51 year old white woman who supports Obama
I went to Austin over a year ago right after he announced his candidacy.

Thought I'd just see what he had to offer, and like what I heard, moreover, like the way he interacted with the crowd. Politicians who LIKE people are the best leaders. The only other I've seen to rival Obama is Hillary's Husband. And Obama doesn't come with the baggage - HornDog Syndrome.

Then I read his books - even better - far more articulate and evocative than Clinton ever has been. (bill, not hill).

Finally, policy - so close to each other were Hillary and Obama - no virtual difference - except one that was very important to me. The WAR.

So, in I jumped - excited, energized, ready to be part of a change.

Imagine my shock when dear friends called me a traitor - for not voting a woman, any woman.

That's sexism.

And I am not a sexist. I'm freely supporting the best candidate.

He could be a purple spotted transexual for all I care - it's not the gender, the race, the orientation.

It's all about the grey matter.

I started out supporting Edwards, and when he dropped out I was momentarily leaning towards Clinton because of her health care plan. Then two things happened:

1. Clinton started sounding like a Republican. The first time I noticed, she was commenting on Iraq, and one of the things she said seemed like an echo of something Bush had said previously. It just immediately creeped me out.

2. I saw Obama's race speech

After that, it was pretty clear who I would be supporting.

I won't vote for a DLC candidate ---
and because of HRC's atrocious positions on war ---

The question was could I vote for Obama . . .
And gradually I found I could ---
And every day I get kinda happier about that ---

I'd prefer to be voting for Edwards or Kucinich ---
but the forces against more socially responsible government, economic democracy,
and corporate control of government are powerful again due to the knocking over of
New Deal regulations -- especially Fairness In Broadcasting --

We don't have one candidate now who supports universal single payer health care --- !!!

his positions most closely match mine of the remaining candidates in the race - one of my big positions at this time is the need to get away from 2 families swapping the office of prez. - and want to decrease DLC power in the Democratic Party. Democrats in general are better for the economy, so that matters to me.

we are facing some big unknowns in the future - I do not think Clinton can unite the party or the nation.

as far as other things - I support his college tuition credit/Americorps service for students, the GI education bill for vets, his desire to get out of iraq (we'll see what happens.)

McCain is right wing nutty on economics, no matter how he tries to portray himself.

I also think Obama can inspire a new generation of voters to cooperate to create positive change.

Just a side note- people easily dismiss impressions from children. I have found with having 3 and working with children most of my life that their initial instincts on a person are usually worth considering. They have the ability to be extremely open to underlying things that as adults we have learned to filter out. (No- I don't let my kids make my decisions for me, but it's always interesting to find out their thoughts and their reasons behind an opinion)

I've supported Obama ever since Dennis K. and John Edwards dropped out of the race. I GREATLY REJECT all efforts to slam pastor-speakers that Obama has listened to previously. I guess that I can't ever run for office - because people don't even want to know about the sermons to which I have listened!

I'm voting for Obama because he's been through law school, and I've been through law school, and I understand how great a person he must be to have instructed ConLaw at one of the most prestigious centers of learning in the country. We need a constitutional expert in the Oval Office right now, to try and restore the founding principles of our country.

For me, it was a very simple decision. From the first time I heard him speak at the Democratic National Convention, I said, "That man is going to be President some day." I have followed him since that time and I have been on his bandwagon since the day he announced he was going to run for President.

I agree with his message, his plan, his integrity and his ability to withstand the kitchen sink thrown at him in a dignified manner. I appreciate that he surrounds himself with excellence and intelligent people that know how to run a campaign. He is presidential and not only do WE NEED him in the US but the World needs him. As President, citizens from all over the world will flock to him as he visits their country.

I am not against voting for a woman as President but she would need to fill the above criteria.

409. Yet another here
BTW: I also count at least 7 Democratic women + one Republican woman in my family who are for Obama. Not to mention many friends.
One cites character.
One simply says we would be stupid to not elect him.
One keeps referring to how "nice" he seems to be.
Not sure of the reasons the Republican gives.

My reasons:
I started watching him closely after his 04 speech. Started paying attention to what else he had to say.
I was impressed by his background. I was never sold on the idea that he was a novice. I included his work as a grassroots organizer as an overlooked piece of his resume, and a strong qualification for the presidency. I also place a high value in his experience practicing civil rights law in a time when we need to have out civil liberties restored. Not to mention experience teaching constitutional law.

The main selling point for me is the way he thinks.

In short, my dream candidate:
Primarily, a professional background that would serve us well.
Along with a thought process that is very much in line with my own.
I also see his biographical narrative and charisma as selling points for electability.
Like it or not, charisma is always an asset.

Obama to me is an elecatable candidate whose not only reaches conclusions similar to mine, he seems to do it much the same way.

410. It mainly appears to be a "Ladies Night Out" thread;
However my 25yo daughter is an Obama supporter. My 77yo mother is a different story. A very vocal Hillary supporter that says all the women her age agree with her. They want a woman elected president while they are still alive. I have convinced my mother that a vote for Obama is in her best interests, although, she says that all her friends (and believe me, my mother has many friends) will either sit out the election or vote for mccain. There's still 5+ months to go. Maybe I can get to work on her friends.

412. Here. Sen Obama's ideologies are more feminist
IMO than Sen Clinton's--this is something I have always maintained. He is much more interested in horizontal rather than vertical politics, in empathy rather than coercion, etc. I know that Sen Clinton has the right positions on many, if not most issues, but she has problems methodologically. As I have said before, part of that is because she is a woman, and women have to demonstrate their toughness in ways men don't, but part of it is also based on her belief that vertical politics works better than another model.

And that is one of many reasons I support the Junior Senator from Illinois.

"SUSAN SARANDON, who appeared in three films last year and won kudos for her TV movie "Bernard and Doris," is still not a contented soul. She says if John McCain gets elected, she will move to Italy or Canada. She adds, "It's a critical time, but I have faith in the American people."

OK, American people. You don't want Susan to move out of the country, so it's up to you to elect Barack Obama. What? You thought Susan of all people would be for Hillary Clinton? Well, no. She told John Hiscock: "I thought the whole point of feminism is that you're not supposed to be defined by gender. I don't understand the reasoning behind that, because I wouldn't vote for Condoleezza Rice, and I hated Margaret Thatcher.""

She doesn't say what she will do if Hillary Clinton steals the nomination and is elected. I guess move to Brazil. Along with quite a few of us. Who may move there anyway as the price of gasoline keeps rising. If nothing else, ethanol doesn't add to the profit of Exxon-Mobil-Shell-Chevron & Company.

Obama represents the future - Clinton and McCain represent a dirty, tired past than can no longer be repeated.

Obama's campaign runs closer to Howard Dean's "50-State Strategy" than Clinton's ever did - she merely paid it lip service.

We now need pioneers, NOT historians.

453. 59yo Woman and Veteran for Peace for Obama
Obviously, my opposition to the war as early as 2002
influenced my decision for Obama over Clinton. However, I was
not originally an Obama supporter - I wanted Gore to run and
win again. When it became clear to me that Gore had no
interest in running in 2008, I supported Kucinich, then
Edwards.

Over the history of this campaign I have recognized that Obama
represents a departure from the status quo. Besides
representing a legacy and alienating her base, Clinton has,
through her own LACK OF EXPERIENCE AND/OR TALENT and/or
through her poor choice of advisers, run a miserable campaign.
This mismanagement in and of itself has led me to believe
that Clinton, much like George W. Bush, has been managed and
manufactured and has no innate talent or experience of her
own. I believe, therefore, that Clinton is out of her league
vis a vis running against ANY of the other contenders who were
on the Democratic ticket. Although, I do not have the facts
at my finger-tips as readily as other members of DU, I believe
Clinton just happens to be better funded by those who would
benefit if she were to get elected. Having said that, I had
always thought that from the get-go, Clinton's negatives (from
Republicans and from the progressive wing of the Democratic
Party) were so high, it would be very unlikely that she could
be elected, even if she won the Democratic Primary.

My only regret about voting for Obama in the primary: I didn't realize he was going to carry the state like that, so I gave up my chance to vote for Kucinich. It was a small disappointment in the overall scheme of things, though, and I did get a thrill out of casting such a historic vote. I'm looking forward to casting it again in the GE.

I am voting for him because he has been against the war from day one and because I have far more trust in him than I do the other candidate.

I feel the same way, Gilligan. I may not completely agree with all of the elements of his platform, but that's not unusual in a presidential race. His intelligence, his integrity, and his message of hope appeal to me. I think he will do a fine job.

I like him for all the reasons mentioned above, and I also am concerned about Hillary's endless victimhood/attack syndrome which I think is unhealthy and problematic. Obama seems very balanced and willing to take responsibility when he makes a mistake. He does not attack for the sake of it but responds appropriately and in a targeted way. This is likely to be his style in foreign policy regarding how he handles threats. I greatly prefer this to the obsessive, attacking, bullying attitude we have been witnessing for the past 8 years.

DLC Queen Hillary has always been my LAST choice, and I'm even more turned off than ever because of the disgraceful Rovian campaign she has run. "Bittergate" was a HUGE turnoff, and it's been downhill ever since.

Hillary is not the last best hope for women. I for one think the next 60 years of my life will have many good things to come. I bet people in the 50's never thought they would see a black man as president.

490. 49, white - voted for Obama in the primary....
...looking forward to doing the same in November.

Sister - 48, white "I don't think I can vote for Hillary, she's obviously in it for herself".

Friend - 51, white "I thought a woman president was a great idea until I saw the way she ran her campaign, you're not voting for Hillary, are you?"

493. Another woman for Obama
I initially rather liked Biden or Dodd, but when it was obvious this was down to a 3 person race, chose Obama because I liked his approach. I liked hsi views - but they weren't radically different from the others. But I really liked the way he behaved, the way he dealt with people, and with difficulty.

I'm sick of the divisiveness, I'm sick of the constant them and us mentality. I think the country is in desperate need of someone who can inspire us to work together again. I don't think he's without flaws; he's human, and I'm sure he's got them. I don't think he's a saint; you don't get anywhere in Chicago politics without learning to play tough. I do think he's really, really smart and I love that. And I think he has a genuine commitment to making this country and this world a better place - not just for his own legacy, but for the goal itself.

We'll see - I hope! whether my trust is well placed. But I'm comfortable with my choice. And yes, another middle-aged white woman here. Demographics be damned!

494. 73-yr old white woman, lifelong woman activist for Obama
Geez! Now y'all made me realize just how ancient I am.

I know that there is an outstanding, capable woman out there who is highly qualified and ready to be the first POTUS. It sure isn't Hillary Clinton.

When Obama speaks, it recalls fond memories of FDR's Fireside Chats which united our Nation.
