GOP Staging 'Masquerade Ball,' Dems Say
By WILL LESTER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - First, Republicans accused Democrats of staging an "extreme makeover" convention in Boston last month in an effort to portray John Kerry as anything but liberal.

Now, after scanning the early lineup for the Republican convention that opens in New York in just over two weeks, Democrats say the GOP is highlighting speakers who are far more moderate than President Bush.

"The convention is shaping up to be a masquerade ball," Democratic Party chief Terry McAuliffe told reporters in a conference call Friday.

"Look at the speakers they're trying to highlight," McAuliffe said, referring specifically to former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Arizona Sen. John McCain and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

1. Ahhhh.
Music to my ears. Now we need some hatchet men and women to start pounding on the theme: Bush is a radical conservative who is way out of touch with the mainstream. Bush is for a flat tax. Bush is against stem cell research. Bush wants to put his God in our childrens' classrooms. Bush has lowered taxes on the rich, while raising taxes on the middle class. Bush wants to move the country backwards to the 50s, before women and minorities had full rights. Bush wants to roll back the gains of Roe v Wade. Bush is so far out there, Barry Goldwater looks moderate by comparison.

5. I remember Hannity, every night, non-stop, whenever he had
a chance to say it in Boston... The Reinvention Convention...

Can't wait till after Ah-nald talks... Sean, I didn't realize the Republicans were pro-gay rights, and pro-choice. Oh, so he doesn't speak for the Republican Party, but he spoke here... Masquerade Ball by chance?

6. Masquerade Ball? I love it!
'Bout time the Dems got smart and hit back.

Though I like my "Facist Tea Party" idea better:

9. The Republicans are doing an "Extremist Makeover"
I hope they repeat the "masquerade ball" phrase over and over again until people actually hear it.

They should make a video with clips from the extremist Republicans and a funny flash movie about it too and release them all during the RNC.

10. Great hit. Will dem surrogates repeat it over and over
until and during the convention, like the pubs did with ours? Or will the cats not get herded again? Amazing how the rethug memes work their surrogates say it over and over. Then, suddenly, tweety will say it. Then Judy. Then Timmy. Then John King. And so on and so on, just like the shampoo commercial. Then, the next time my family gets together my uncle will say, "You know the problem with that John Kerry is he tried to do that extreme makeover during that there convention..."

11. Exactly
Our people always seem to have to come up with their own idea that's better than what somebody else is saying. Then wonder why we never command the soundbyte. geesh.

12. When you need to pull masks over your face to hide
your intentions, I call it a klan rally not a masquerade party.
