Geez, I don't know about this. I can understand the need to reshape our military, but doing it in a time of war?

Our forces are stretched to the limits as it is and I can see the need to rotate some of these guys through Iraq.

This article implies that when he announces it, he's sending a message that he is best to see to the security of our country. A nice political move.

I'm not military strategist, but this just seems so extreme to me.

Thoughts anyone?

3. Bush has weakened US influence in the world with his folly in Iraq.
I'm not saying it probably shouldn't be done..but it will be interpreted by the world as an acknowledgement of US weakness now because of the quagmire Bush created in Iraq.

Looks like the neo-con's fantasy of a Pax Americana for the New American Century lasted only 4 years.

4. Do They Really Need Moved?
When I was stationed in Germany, the training the soldiers did would sometimes cause issues. The Germans have strict environmental policies and at times the relationship between the Germans and the troops was strained.

Maybe it's the old military in me that's not comfortable with this. It's been this way for a long time.

I'm most especially not comfortable with redeploying soldiers away from the demilitarized zone which separates North Korea and South Korea. That bugs me to no end.

5. South Koreans seems to be tiring of our presence there.
Not sure if we are wanted there anymore....of course, since Bush has been in office, NK seems to have become more radicalized, so maybe the South Korean's feel differently about our presence there these days.

I really don't know what our mission statement is in Europe anymore.

But I don't look at this as "good news". These troops are probably going to the ME and that will just escalate the tension there, I think.
