White evangelicals flocking to GOP
Edited on Sat Aug-14-04 03:04 PM by Gman
"White evangelicals and born-again Christians are 26 percent of all registered voters — that's quite a big chunk — and the survey shows they are quite happy with Republicans," said Adam Clymer, political director of the University of Pennsylvania's National Annenberg Election Survey,

"White evangelicals and born-again Christians are 26 percent of all registered voters — that's quite a big chunk — and the survey shows they are quite happy with Republicans," said Adam Clymer, political director of the University of Pennsylvania's National Annenberg Election Survey, which polled 3,715 registered voters nationwide July 1 to 21, with a margin of error of 1 percentage point.
"Whatever percentage the turnout of your voters, if you get another 1 percent of evangelicals and born-agains, that's a lot more votes," Mr. Clymer said. "It makes a lot more difference than getting an additional 1 percent of blacks or Hispanics."
The good news for Mr. Kerry and his party is that the Annenberg survey also shows Republicans are failing to make the big gains they hoped for among minorities, especially Hispanics, in the past four years.
What might be more important to the electoral map, however, is that among registered white Protestants who described themselves as born-again or evangelical, Republicans now enjoy majority status, Mr. Clymer said.

--------------

I wonder if this is THE Adam Clymer, that friggin' nutcase that spewed right wing nonsense at the FR pro-war rally in D.C. The rally that had 15 - 20 freepers there and was on CSPAN.

If true, this proves the point to me that Karl Rove has written off the middle and undecideds and is pushing harder than ever to turn out every nutcase right winger and evangalical he can.

If Bush wins, we will be ruled by the Shiites and they will act like it.

1. Hey thats OK
The Lefty's here at DU have written off non Lefty's, and are going as radically left as they can, and have completely abandoned, and routinely ridicule guys like me just trying to make a living.

Should be a close race.

12. Not being necessarily a Lefty
I'd still ridicule anyone who makes such laughable generalizations, and somehow sees a similarity between "regular guys" (familiar diction, this) "just trying to make a living" and the life-denying ascetics of the evangelical movement. Here's how I feel (considering myself to be a regular guy that just likes to make a living as well!): I like sex and sexy movies and cursing and drinking on a Wednesday night while I watch a baseball game with my brother - and so does my wife! I like gambling and I like my gay friends, and hope they can have the same rights as the rest of us. Do I want some fundamentalist asshole passing laws about blow jobs anywhere near my political party? Hell fucking no. And I mean FUCKING NO. And if you were, indeed, a regular guy, you wouldn't either. So cut the self-righteous bullshit. These evangelicals should be cut loose anyway, not because we are "too far left," but because they are fundamentally against a free society. Period. And that's what my political party promotes. Therefore, any group of life-denying ascetics who are against a free society SHOULD go to the other party, cuz they ain't on our team. Get it? Politics is real, and political differences are real. We don't want them because they don't have the same worldview as we do, and it is as simple as that. FUCK THEM.

8. The KKK and Nazis ( white Christian and born again). They flocked to
which ever political group expoused their agenda, either the Dixicrats or the conservative-states-rights Republicans. Eventhough poor whites are the victims of the harsh social agenda of these Republicans their racila hatred trumps everything else and they would rather cut off their own noses and bleed on themselves that to change. I'm from the south and I know all the code words and what the so-called "gun rights" really mean. It's a way of saying "give me a gun so I can shoot a N......r" It's been that way since the civil war and nothing will change this mind set....sadly.

9. Thank YOU Wash Times

For that brilliant expose' on the voting public.

Sadly for you clowns, we already KNOW THIS.

All in all, this is nothing but media propaganda. The point isn't to say the fundies are going/happy to/with the GOP...The point is to say "someone" is happy with this crew.

Just fodder to toss on the line in an attempt to spin a happy face on the Bush crew. That is the only point to this story. Otherwise, I anxiously await the "scoop" on the potential that the Soviet Union will be shipping missles into Cuba.

10. FLOCKING to???
They're already there and have been for all of my political memory. There's no way the Democratic Party could modify its stances on issues enough to please these people without driving everyone else out. They're a lost cause.

11. Fuck them: Go.
Can't please all the people.

These lunatics can go have the GOP. I want nothing to do with them anyway. And guess what? A lot of moderate GOPers don't either. So, they can live with these medieval shitbirds, or they can come over to our side. Fine. Suburban moms and young businesspeople have much more in common with us than they do with these throwbacks to Torquemada. People like sexiness, they like violent movies, they like drinking, they like a joint here and again, they like big meals, they like life. Fundamentalist Christians are life-denying ascetics, and that don't play well with most people.

That's the thing about politics. There are real disagreements about how the world works and how best to organize a society. I don't care for their view, and I think it is destructive. So they can go fuck off. I don't want them on my side, because they are not on my side. FUCK THEM.

14. No, Fundies, don't want YOU to have any fun. Many are more
than happy to engage in all kinds of f'd up sick sh*, so long as they are not caught. And once they are, they merely re-discover their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ all over again. Remember that whole PTL (AKA Pay the Lady) scandal. Not to mention Ashcroft's Crisco obsession. (Bulls* he's merely Anointing himself for religious reasons). If I found my Husband coating himself up with Crisco there would be questions like, why am I not included.

15. I really feel sorry for the evangelicals...
who give their hard-earned money to keep
people like Falwell and Robertson living large.

Some of these hatemongers have made it hard
for real Christians to keep the good in God.

and neither are Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, Bill Clinton, or Jane Fonda.

And this article totally leaves out black evangelicals, too. In any given election, over 40% of evangelicals vote Democratic (it was much higher with Carter.) This translated into 10 million "born again" votes for Gore in 2000.

The kids are alright. And I think part of the problem is that the media considers fundies "evangelicals."

19. Jesus Warned:
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheeple's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous Wolfowitz. "You will know them by their nuts. Do men gather grapes from thorn Bushes or figs from thistles? "Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad Bush bears bad nuts. "A good tree cannot bear bad nuts, nor can a bad Bush bear good fruit. "Every Bush that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their nuts you will know them." (Matt. 7:15-20)

Time to burn the Bushes before they yield more bad nuts.
