FL superdelegate backs Obama

It’s only a half-vote, but DNC member and Florida Democratic Party Secretary Janee Murphy told The Palm Beach Post this afternoon that she would support Barack Obama.

The Tampa-area organizer donated $2,300 to Obama’s campaign earlier this year, but kept her superdelegate vote uncommitted as long as the DNC refused to acknowledge the state’s Jan. 29 primary.

The DNC rules committee reconsidered its penalty on Saturday, opting instead for a 50 percent cut, similar to the Republican Party sanctions on Florida. That decision, Murphy said, opened the door for her endorsement.

“Looking at where we’re at, Obama in my feeling is going to be the nominee,” Murphy said. “Now it’s about the general election and keeping McCain out of the White House.”
