A message to anyone considering staying home or voting for McCain.
Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 08:23 PM by hiaasenrocks
Over the weekend I made the decision to support and vote for Barack Obama. He was not my first, or even second, choice in the Democratic primary.

I do not intend to engage in a debate about this, but I have to admit that I am not 100% behind Senator Obama. I have some problems with many aspects of his candidacy. I can't deny that.

However, I will not stay home on election day nor will I vote for Senator McCain. To do either would be to (1) vote against the interest of my country, and (2) vote against my self-interest. It is just that simple.

I ask all of you who say you will stay home or vote for McCain to please consider those two points.

Please consider voting for Senator Obama.

Thank you.

I even considered voting for Joe on Feb. 5th, but he sent an email that his supporters should vote for one of the remaining candidates. After considerable thought, I switched to Obama.

5. As far as I can tell
there are about half a dozen Clinton supporters here who say they will stay home and about a dozen Obama supporters who say they will not vote for him if Clinton is on the ticket. They are vocal, but they appear to be becoming a minority around here. That makes me very happy and very hopeful.

22. How downright SUICIDAL!!! One of the cornerstones of the Raygun Revolution
and the right-wing cultural war was the stacking of the SCOTUS. The GOP bargained away their judicial soul for the American theo-fascist vote. We know for a fact that the right-wing, narrow-mined rethuglican twits on the SCOTUS do not reflect the majority of America. We also know for a fact that they are viciously partisan and not interested in even the pretense of impartiality. I, like all persons that are pro-choice and not anti-choice, believe abortion is a lousy method of birth control. However, Roe v. Wade is about far more than choice or anti-choice. It is ultimately about the right of a woman to control her reproductive destiny without the interference of religion or government. It begs the ultimate question whether a woman is a complete and sentient human being--as much as any male human being.

In addition to reproductive freedom at stake, are issues of privacy, of civil rights, habeas corpus and inherent rights of citizens guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States. We have the opportunity by electing a Democrat of reversing the slide toward corporate fascism.

We must now allow the SCOTUS to be further stacked with ideological bigots. The sneering face of "Fat Tony" Scalia telling all of us "to get over it" should be indelibly etched in all of our brains. We must not fail. We cannot fail. Future generations of Americans depend on us today to correct the horrendous mistakes of cheney*/bush*.

20. I could not agree more!
Edwards was my first choice, and when he dropped out, it took me about 3 weeks to decide to back Obama.

I've not been happy with many of the things the Clinton campaign has done, but if she had ended up with the nomination, I would absolutely vote for her. I absolutely shudder to think of what would happen if McSame gets into the White House, and Roe v Wade being overturned is just ONE of the "treats" he has in store for us.

Don't stay home in November, folks. Get out and vote D!!

But I'm so turned off by this primary season (disgusted with the MSM, DNC, Pelosi, Reid, etc.) being manipulated before our eyes (handing us the weakest of the candidates) that I'm going to be focusing on state and local races from now on. Besides, my wife and I live in CA, a true blue state, where our votes in Presidential elections really don't matter, so this year we have the luxury of voting our consciences. And our consciences do not allow for a vote for Obama, the one the above "powers that be" forced down everyone's throats. We'll write in Gore, RFK, Jr., or any other Dem we would like to see on the ballot. Meanwhile, we will not be renewing our membership in the DNC.

Your OP and post above are just variations on the arrogant, insulting BO meme, screamed thousands of times at the Hillary supporters here for months, that failure to back BO is equivalent to a vote for McCain. It's a red herring and it stinks. And who are you to pass judgment on me?

And I'm not some "Hillbot" either. My wife and I voted for Edwards on Super Tuesday, even though the MSM, DNC, Pelosi, Reid, et. al. had just thoroughly destroyed his campaign the week before. They were determined to give us an "historic" race and an "historic" election, and Edwards was neither AA nor female so he just had to go, you know.

38. California or West Virginia...
Hello- I am a CA native now living in Oregon. California is 'true blue'? Please dig a bit and think very hard before you assume your vote is not needed. Does Arnold know how blue California is, can he tell? He's a Republican who won twice. Pete Wilson. Ronny. Cunningham.
Here is a real tidbit to chew on. In the history of Pres elections in my lifetime's memory, California has gone to the GOP more often than not only Oregon, but more often than West Virginia. In nationals, California is less blue than West Virginia, and California almost always elects Republican govenors. So please think long and hard. I have issues with Obama as well. I always have issues with all of the nominees. Always. And yet I vote for them. That's Party politics. If I felt I had to agree in perfection with the candidate, I'd stand up and run myself.
Please think about it and watch the numbers closely and don't vote for McCain by default. Bush 41 took CA. True Blue.

California has consistently cast its electoral votes to the Dem nominee in Presidential elections since 1992.

And this season it's looking bluer than ever.

42. Uh, not as consistant as West Virginia
Rest on your assumptions if you wish, I just think CA is living in the past darkly. Those that announce forgone conclusions are often incorrect. I don't think CA will go GOP this year, but I don't know, and you don't either. Electing a string of really rotten Republicans to be Gov is not a sign of nothing, you know. A true blue state is one that just delivered its electoral votes to a Democrat, not one that has before. We will know about CA in Nov.
You are cutting off your timeline at the last Republican win, which helps your case. But I myself remember Bush 41 and his win in my State which happened while many Californians were saying exactly what you are saying now. CA is a shoo-in, I don't have to bother.

Heard it before. All of it. And I do not buy it. Vote the nominee, or at least watch closely and think hard and visit areas that are not in your normal circle. Please. Assume CA is blue the day after it delivers for our Democrat.

Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 08:26 AM by Seabiscuit
I voted for a Dem in the primaries. I will vote for a Dem in the GE, but not for Obama if he is indeed our nominee. I will not support nor will I advocate for nor will I donate to anyone but a Dem. Nor will I advocate against Obama in the GE. That doesn't mean I have to support, advocate for, or donate to (as if he need my $$) Senator Obama if he becomes our nominee, according to the DU rules as I see it. If that were the case I would resign from DU faster than anyone could ban me. For years I have and will continue to work for and donate to state and local Dems.

You think that means I will be banned from this site.

I don't.

Only one or two more Alitos are needed on the Supreme Court to ban abortion. McCain is strongly anti-abortion. Considering the ages of the current moderate and liberal justices, the next President will get to appoint some replacements.

Truthfully, I think the line is drawn. Senator Clinton and President Clinton got a raw deal, whether you believe it not.

Try sending a message to the DNC and the process in which the primary was handled, and while you're at it; take it to the wonderful media who created Bush.

I have been a democrat for 20 years; and have never seen anything like this debacle. This even beats Gore/Bush in Florida.

By the way, it's ironic that you accuse me of using a republican tactic, but if my plea is a no-sale (as you say), then you're helping to put a Repub in the White House.
