Rocky Mountain News: Salazar says senators didn't agree on endorsement
WASHINGTON — Sen. Ken Salazar joined a small group of fellow undecided Democratic superdelegates on Capitol Hill today, but said they reached no agreement on whether to endorse a presidential candidate as a group.

The gathering created a major stir amid published reports that up to 15 previously uncommitted senators were on the verge of giving a united endorsement to Democratic front-runner Sen. Barack Obama.

That did not happen at the meeting inside the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee offices, where Salazar and the only three other participants left by a backdoor to avoid more than a dozen reporters who staked out the front door.

Later, Salazar said the meeting had been "a dialogue without an agenda" and added he had spoken to "12 or 13" Democratic colleagues in the past few days.

4. Reid is the weakling
and our strong senators aren't following.

Reid's record for being a weak leader in the Senate is legendary. He's refused repeatedly to stand up to the criminal Bush administration, yet he's ready to twist arms of his fellow Dems for a questionable candidate.

6. Its common knowledge
that many Dem leaders as well as voters are concerned about Obama's viability as a candidate.

10. That's fine. They can be concerned but he's going to be the nominee..so concerned or not..
we must get behind him. It's that simple. There are no alternatives at this juncture. He will get the nomination, and we will either win or lose, but in the end fighting for him to become president is what conscious and dedicated Dems must do.

Votes are personal, so if you or anyone else decide not to support the nominee, its your choice and you're entitled. But in the end, it will not change the outcome of him being the nominee.

12. He's not the nominee
and apparently some Dems in Congress and elsewhere place a high priority on ensuring the eventual nominee is able to win in November.

15. Didn't I say: "He will be the nominee." Please read before responding. Btw, it

doesn't change what I said. If Hillary was going to be the nominee, I'd say the same thing. We'd have to rally behind her, win or lose because that is what a honest and thorough Dem does, period.

Just ask black and women voters over the years that voted Democratic even though they continually got the shaft or their votes were simply taken for granted. It was done because the alternative just isn't viable or acceptable. There'd be no real progress to speak of and we'd be no where near where we are, had they voted Republican.

So throw your party, have your dance and do as you wish. I will too..and I choose to throw a Dem party and dance until I can't anymore.

18. Well the Clintons sure have worked overtime to hurt his viability.
But it's not going to work.

8. Actually, Reid urged them to delay their endorsement until the votes are counted tonight.
Washington Post: Obama Is Poised To Clinch Victory - Clinton Ponders Options at Finish Line

On Capitol Hill, three uncommitted senators, Tom Harkin (Iowa), Thomas R. Carper (Del.) and Ken Salazar (Colo.), met Monday to discuss a "quick conclusion" to the Democratic race, but Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.) privately urged them to delay any announcement until the final votes have been counted, according to multiple Democratic sources.

I agree with you that he's a weakling, but he's apparently not urging "strong" senators to make up their minds as quickly as you characterized.

a real eye - opener to see how many long time DU'ers are closet sexists. You guys always like the women who post on DU until we start having opinions that differ from yours. We become your instant enemy. :hi:

If you have a problem with the refusal of some Dem senators to fall in line, take it up with them.

17. Kind of like the closet racists in the party, guess this primary season over turned a lot of rocks,
but even still...I will vote for the Democrat. Republican are 1000x worse..and I say that as a black female!!

Sexism and racism in the Dem party are both real..but I'll work to change it from the inside..the alternative is just not acceptable.

Btw, I don't expect all the Dem senators to fall in line, the Clintons still have a lot of loyal followers, but in the end, I think all the politicans will support the nominee. It's what they do...it's the people out in the street that will need to come together.

19. I haven't seen any racism on DU
except from the occasional troll.

But the sexism has been atrocious from the start of the camapaign. At least we know people's true feelings.

21. Well, I have. I don't expect you to see the world through my eyes. Many would probably say I'm
overly sensitive to it because I'm black...which maybe true..and guess the same could be said for being female when it comes to sexism.

Bottom line: Just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't or didn't exist.

16. Yes, strong senators like Schumer and Clinton had no problem standing AGAINST an Alito filibuster
and using the Dem senate caucus to express their outrage that Kerry and Kennedy would lead a filibuster of the fascist Alito.

Clinton and Schumer wanted to show strength by not having that fight against Bush and the media, and urged other Dem senators to NOT SUPPORT Kerry and Kennedy on it.

Then, of course, Clinton's office got bombarded by hundreds of phonecalls for the filibuster so she came out for it the next day, but still did not want to be seen as part of the fight against Alito. She issued a statement, just to cover her ass for her primary race.
