Obama and Clinton is NOT happening EVER!
Just forget about it! Think for two seconds. Past vs. Future. They dont like eachother. Bill Clinton. Never ever happening.

1. Obama has been a proponenet of "Team of Rivals"
and has said he would model his administration on Lincoln's.

Lincoln's most bitter political rivals were assembled to form his administration team.

It'll play, and play well. Choosing Clinton for Veep would be Lincolnesque and will be described that way by the media.

3. I didn't know you had such influence with the party
As far as we know a deal could already be in the works for her to end it in exchange for the VP slot. Also forget that past vs future stuff. All you need to do is contrast Obama with McCain for that. VP's only have as much power as the President decides to give them. Get HRC involved in the health care stuff and she would be as happy as could be.

Also you are ignoring the 17+ million people who voted for her. Dangerous to ignore them and Arrogance to think they will automatically support Obama.

6. I think a deal has already been struck
Part of the deal is probably to send Bill home or train him to stand on the stage and smile, nothing more.

But yes, I think the joint ticket is almost a foregone conclusion given the signs.

10. 16.9 million of those 17 million Hillary supporters will join with Obama
At that time they become Obama supporters, just like current Obama supporters who used to support another candidate. Nobody will ignore them, except for Bush and McBush.

11. In fairness, it's just an opinion. You don't have to be on the party rules commitee to post at DU.
Obama MIGHT be cutting a deal. But he doesn't need a deal for her to end it today. The numbers will do that for him.

And not automatically giving the runner up in the primaries the veep slot isn't ignoring a single vote. The system doesn't work that way. They're running for President, not Vice President.

12. If Obama thinks Clinton will give him the Presidency, it very well could happen

Obama will do what it takes to secure the Presidency, and if he believes uniting with Clinton for the VP spot will do that (and he is a very smart guy, so if he does I would trust him), she will get the nod.

I am NOT stating this is a definite. However, I am saying that this is politics and it isn't as clean or noble as you would like to believe.

Clinton is a powerhouse, she took a huge amount of delegates and popular votes. I know you don't like her, neither do I. However, it is political suicide to just write off that huge a proportion of people who support Clinton. And, what are the Obama supporters going to do if he does take her on? Not support him? Fat chance.

Ultimately, this is about securing the Presidency. Obama will make his choices with that as the main goal.

It will be interesting.

17. Read the Late Breaking News, folks. If a deal was in the works to give her the Veep slot...
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 10:34 AM by Brotherjohn
... McAuliffe wouldn't be out there denying she'll concede at this late stage, a few hours before everyone thinks she will.
