AP: Hillary Clinton Says She's Open To Being Obama's Vice President

Shocking!! }(

Breaking now on MSNBC... will update with link when it emerges.

Update: AP LINK:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080603/ap_on_el_pr/clinton_31

WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton has told congressional colleagues she would be open to becoming Barack Obama's vice presidential nominee, saying she would consider it if it would help Democrats win the White House.

Clinton, a New York senator, made the comment on a conference call with other New York lawmakers Tuesday, according a participant on the call.

The senator's remarks came in response to a question from Democratic Rep. Nydia Velazquez who said she believed the best way for Obama to win over key voting blocs, including Hispanics, would be for him to choose Clinton as his running mate.

"I am open to it," Clinton replied, if it would help the party's prospects in November.

-----------------------------------------------

This earlier from the WaPo blog, her conversation with Rep. Nydia Velasquez where Velasquez says Obama might not win the Hispanic vote without Clinton on the ticket:

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2008/06/clinton_leave_veep_possibility.html?nav=rss_blog

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) said she was willing to do "whatever it takes" to elect a Democrat in the fall in response to a question from Rep. Nydia Velasquez about the vice presidency during a recently completed conference call with the New York congressional delegation.

Velasquez, a prominent Clinton supporter and Latina, voiced concern that without Clinton on the national ticket, Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) might not be able to win the Hispanic vote in the numbers required to claim the presidency, according to someone on the call.

Clinton did not directly address the idea of serving as Obama's second in command but did make clear that she would do whatever was required of her to help elect a Democrat to the White House in November.

29. Nope
I think we win in a lnadslide no matter what.

And no matter what, we need a united party.

She should be the Veep.

What naming her the Veep would also do is end up with a unanimous first ballot.

Thnink of that after this long hard slog of a primary, an unanimous first ballot for the nominee followed by a unanimous second ballot for the veep.

It's history, and we should let it go forward.

83. Agree 100%. We don't need to draw the GOP out in Nov-let McCain deal w that problem.
President Obama doesn't deserve to have every decision second guessed by Bill Clinton and probably publicly at that.

The American people deserve change and Hillary stands with the corporate wing of the Dem Party.

Also, I really fear the actions of BFEE if Hillary is second in line. Bill Clinton allowed BCCI and Iran Contra to be buried. They'd like to see another Clinton at the helm to cover their actions.

She wouldn't say it otherwise. It would be, "I'm not interested" or "that is not a consideration."

That's assuming that she actually said that and the OP is not "paraphrasing" or mistaken.

I think what MSNBC was reporting was that someone in her campaign said that someone thought that she might be willing to consider it.

Maybe I'm wrong. Did she actually say these words?... why can't they report on something else? I'm a little disappointed that the only reports I've seen are really of her clearing her throat/coughing and having to have her daughter take over, etc.

With her angry female base. If she says she wants it and Obama doesnt offer it to her, it'll give them even MORE reason to hate him. And she knows it.

She's manipulating. Trying to force Obama's hand. And all the while shes not even willing to admit she won. Its abhor-able.

Report: Clinton "open" to VP slot

June 3, 2008 3:40 PM EDT

(NECN) - Maybe there's room for that "dream ticket" after all. The Associated Press reports that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has told New York lawmakers she's open to being Barack Obama's vice presidential candidate.

Clinton, a New York senator, made the comment on a conference call with other New York lawmakers Tuesday, according a participant on the call.

Clinton spent most of the day at home in Chappaqua, New York, with her husband and daughter, placing calls to friends and supporters and working on a final draft of her
speech tonight in New York, while her supporters said she would not concede the race.

But aides say she is prepared to acknowledge that Barack Obama has enough delegates to be the Democratic nominee, if he reaches that milestone.

Clinton aides who work in key battleground states say they were told to stand down, without pay, and await instructions.

Campaign officials say Clinton will not formally end her campaign, so she can keep her leverage to negotiate with Obama on various issues.

That really says it all, doesn't it?

For her to refuse to concede, and now publicly saying she's "open" to being Obama's VP, is nothing but raw political threat to pressure Obama right out in broad daylight.

Political extortion. And this crass sense of entitlement that has so permeated her entire campaign from the very beginning.

And on top of all of this, she is fanning the flames of hyper-emotion among her supporters in a way that so destroys the landscape of dignity in political discourse.
