Bumper Sticker Observation, or lack thereof in Ohio:
My daughter and I drove from the Toledo area, through Cleveland, to the eastern burbs of that city to attend my cousin's memorial service this afternoon. She and I played the ole license plate game plus counted Kerry/Edwards and Shrub/F'yourself stickers. Of all the hundreds of cars we saw on the six hours or so we were on the road--on a day, by the way, that the Indians were playing the Twins at Jacobs Field--- we saw two repug stickers and one Kerry/Edwards sticker. That astounds me, but has led me to surmise:

People are afraid to show, publicly, their true colors, so to speak, probably due to the whacky world in which we live. I suspect that they are reluctant to chance the possible of key scrapes damaging their cars and hostile road behavior.

Seemingly, our divided nation, inundated with a plethora of morons who actually condone this atrocious administration, does not make for a comfortable environment for the exercise of expression of free speeech sans potentially detrimental consequences. That sure sucks, doesn't it?

3 bumper stickers!!!!!! Amazing!

1. Haven't Seen A Single One
I'm surprised I haven't seen a shrub one in my area. Given how repub this town is, it's a little surprising.

Mine is going on the inside window of my car as soon as it arrives. It's your standard Kerry/Edwards.

I fear for the health of my car if I put on the ones I really want.

Cyn:)

4. That's certainly pat of it
My truck sports a "NO W" sticker, but that's because it's 14 years old and shabby as hell and there's not much they can do to it. My electric moped also has them, but people are usually too busy trying to figure out what it is to think about vandalism.

Part of the reason for the dearth of Bush/*yourself stickers may be that there are few to be found, period. There are no yard signs, and *yourself's name doesn't appear on any of Bush's TV spots.

Since all the violence comes from the freeper side, the dearth of bumperstickers favoring their little tin Jesus is doubly remarkable.

5. My mom lives in Richland co., OH, and has only seen one Bush/Cheney
sticker, and two Bush/Cheney lawn signs. She's seen several Kerry bumperstickers and lawn signs. Ohio is hurting after four years of Bush. Only the rich or the quasi-rich still love their tax-cutting, stem-cell-loving leader.

7. I live in the eastern suburbs...
...and I haven't seen one either, not a single one, for either side.

I posted to another thread that I thought Ohioans are not boisterous about politics in a public way... don't know if that really explains it, though. I remember seeing many bumper stickers in previous elections, going as far back as I can remember. This is a rare year. Or maybe it's just too early, but I don't believe that either. But you're right about the atmosphere for dissent - with rapid pro-Bush supporters out there waiting to key your car - yes, I believe that, and I'm not so sure that that fear is just paranoia - I can understand why bumper stickers are rare. Which makes me wonder, though: why no Bush stickers either? They're certainly not afraid of us.

8. Have not seen very many myself
although I have one on my van and I have given away 20 or 30 to customers. So I am working to get more people involved around here. I have not had any problems with vandals yet but the Cleveland area has quite a lot of dems.

9. Yep, I'm afraid to put a Kerry sticker on my car
The extra-chromosome crowd is little unpredictable.

However, I like wearing my Kerry T-shirt. Lots of positive, personal responses and freepers are chickenhawks at heart.

11. Check out our Ohio forum, Stew.
We've got a thread similar to yours over there.

We're counting bumper stickers and yard signs and we're doing pretty well for this early in the game.

Keep in mind that I just received the first supply of yard signs for the Dayton area last Friday and bumper stickers are in short supply at Dem HQ -- and they're not free; yard signs are $5 each and bumper stickers are $1. Both of these purchases have been funded through private donations from volunteers.

We'll have to wait and see how visible we become as election time nears. I'm hoping for a good show!!
