My prediction anyway. How do I know such a ticket would work politically? Everyone here hates it.

I'm not arguing to the contrary. Obama picking Hillary as VP has no relation to McCain's ads.

28. Pay attention. Obama cannot have as a VP someone who the GOP is quoting....
as saying only she and McCain are qualified to be president.

Just like Obama cannot have as a VP someone who has considered assassination as a campaign strategy.

Consider the vetting over. She's unqualified, except for perhaps a restraining order.

5. What would he do with Bill, Lanny, Wolfson, Ickes, and the DLC?
Not trying to be too much of a jerk here, but that's the thing I'm trying to work out. If it was just Hillary hoping on board, that would be one thing, but what happens with the rest of the team? What's the power sharing agreement? What if part of that includes Harold Ford working along with or replacing Dean, or something crazy like that?

24. EXACTLY!
If it were just Hillary, without the rest, I'd see it as acceptable. But part of the reason, don't kid yourselves, that she fought "so hard" was because it was an internal power struggle within the Democratic party. If it were just the Presidency, four years, eight years, that can be sacrificed by most people with an attention span greater than a toddlers for the greater good. But this wasn't just about the next term or two.

Sorry, but I've got two kids. I'm ok with taking the knocks, as an individual, and collectively, to ensure my kids have a place in this world in 20-30 years. I'm not talking about a purge, but perhaps a rather broad reorientation of our vision as a people and a party. Otherwise we'll keep chasing the GOP to the right.

McCain is NOT A LIBERAL! He may not be THEIR form of right-winger, but on every matter of deep importance to me, he is on the WRONG side. The GOP is going to try and sell that doddering fool as both the Maverick, and the reincarnation of Reagan. McCains nomination is NOT a correction in political orientation for the GOP, it is a continuation of one overriding motivation for the Republicans, the continuity of power and priveledge for friends and family. It IS a class war.

there are choices available to him to make a stronger team. I will concede Hillary is on the short list, but I doubt all that near the top.

22. Yeah, having McCain ads running with the Dem VP nominee
trashing the Dem presidential nominee would really work.

The GOP has already stated that they'll be using the Hillary quotes 'a lot' in the Fall.

If she woulda kept her mouth shut, she might have had a shot at VP. Another fuckup by the 'politically savvy' Clinton.

12. Political suicide
Hillary would be seen as a power-hungry, do-anything politician so crazed for the spotlight that she agreed to be number 2 to a person she claimed couldn't be number 1.

Obama would be seen as the weakling who picked her.

18. Everyone here is not the public at large
.. just like Free Republic isn't every Republican.

I think the thought process is trying not to bleed off the 10-15% of voters who say they'll sit/switch.

Honestly, I think Hillary ought to think this through. At the risk of sounding callous, Ted Kennedy is likely terminally ill,, and Robert Byrd is old and sick. Hillary is 61, and she would be well positioned to step into the party leadership vaccum when Byrd and Kennedy depart the stage. 8 years (or -- Heaven forbid, 4) give her more time for people to identify her as a statesperson and less with the misdeeds (real or imagined) of the 90s.

19. He gets to choose, but he needs to include Hillary somewhere...
maybe Health Care. Clark or Webb for VP.
Obama has a slim chance to win without including Hillary at SOME level.
They will figure it out.
And, we need to support them.

25. The Republican National Committee would celebrate such a political mistake
Just when they were grieving that they couldn't have the Clintons to run against, we would offer them an early Christmas present.

It would be a collossal mistake.
