Has the David Alston Swifboat smear been dealt with yet?
Edited on Sun Aug-15-04 08:48 PM by Chango
My rightie friends are crowing that David Alston was not a crew member on Kerry's boat. I'm sure this is some kind Grassy Knoll stuff, but I'm searching for some response from the good guys. Anybody got a link?

1. What?
He's in crew pictures! Tell them to get the goddamned glue bags off their noses.

2. Yes, that's what I'm telling them, but...
they claim to have evidence that he was wounded before Kerry took over that boat in January - PCF94 - and never returned. I know it's BS, but I want to rub it in their faces with some straight dope.

3. The freepers sort of debunked it themselves
Edited on Sun Aug-15-04 09:01 PM by creeksneakers2
The story was that Alston couldn't have come back on his boat while Kerry was in charge because Alston was too seriously wounded. The author of the hoax had a picture of a large scar on the back of Alston's head as proof that Alston was seriously wounded. Some freepers who knew something about medicine said it was a kind of scar that could grow from a very small wound into a larger hideous scar over time. Alston didn't have to be seriously wounded at all. His medical report says he wasn't.

Another piece of evidence was a line in a newspaper in Indiana or someplace that said another guy replaced Alston in February. The freepers didn't trust the little Indiana paper enough to go to war with only that tiny detail as proof.

Other than that all they had was the fact that nobody proved to them that Alston WAS on the boat. There was a picture of Alston and Kerry together on a boat, which the freepers came up with many exotic conspiracy theories about. None of them seemed sure though.

Many of them got really scared because they remembered how stupid they looked when they circulated that fake Kerry/Fonda photo.

I googled on Alston's name about 12 hours after the last freeper post. No mention of the Alston story was anywhere.

5. What was even more disgusting ...
... is the National Review and Instapundit were all over this hoping it was true. So eager to smear David Alston, a veteran and a man of the cloth. I emailed several corporate media sources including CNN, Washington Post, NY times, MSNBC pointing this out. Hopefully they will hesitate before treating these racist, freeper-loving jerks as legitimate voices.

I made sure I let them know that Dr. Corsi probably wasn't the only RW pundit posting racist, homophobic rants on the Free Republic.
