Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 10:00 PM by senseandsensibility
I purposely didn't watch or listen to it. But I glanced through the threads here, and there is surprisingly little content. I'm not trying to be confrontational. Maybe it really was that bad. But how, exactly?

Didn't we already know she wouldn't concede? That's why I didn't listen to begin with.

1. Let's start with she was introduced as "The next President of the United States"..
It went downhill from there. She said she's better positioned to win swing states, etc. It was her typical stump. She didn't have to conceed, but she also didn't have to keep fighting like she still has a chance to win either.

35. The person introducing her said that, or a newcaster? I didn't hear that.
My newscasters were chatting amongst themselves trying to decide if it was really Sen Clinton or just Chelsea and Bill. Shame on the introducer or whoever said that.

The convention is the decider and anything can happen..if it does she is still in..if she concedes..we start all over again.

19. She doesn't have to concede because we have a candidate.
Her perspective on the race is not reality. She can pretend it's not over if she wants to waste her time, but she has lost.

31. That's the way I remember conventions from the "good old days" -
- that the convention was when it was decided who the nominee would be. There would be all this build up and excitement for the announcement of the nominee's name and no one knew for sure until the convention. I mean, that was the entire REASON for the convention, right? Maybe some aren't aware or just don't remember that.

34. You're absolutely right. If she wants to take it to the convention,
tear the party apart, and ensure the Presidency of John McCain... that's her right.

I'm sure you can afford that.

My children, 13, 7, and a little girl who just turned 5, cannot.

So understand that if Clinton does this, I'll pretty much be hoping she burns in Hell... K?

8. Well to start with it she didn't bow and scrape to Obama in front of her fervent supporters
who just worked like hell for SD. And did I mention that are Dem's? And then there's the fact that she didn't congratulate Obama even tho' she was addressing her supporters in SD.

So its your standard piss on the woman cuz' she didn't do everything for everyone.

She knows its over, its over and she knows it.

Could it be the Obama supporters don't realize that?

Didn't she congratulate him on his win? Someone said she congratulated him in his campaign instead of his win but however she put it, it didn't jar me at the time. Is there a transcript somewhere?

For the record, I'm absolutely NO on the VP issue. She lost fair and square and there's no reason he should be burdened with someone who's not a natural, trusted fit, no matter how many pots and pans some "supporters" bang.

32. "bow and scrape to Obama in front of her fervent supporters"
It's called a CONCESSION SPEECH. It's called acknowledging reality.

You do realize that it's possible - and very common - for candidates to issue a concession speech with plenty of class, don't you?

I guess in Hillary World, giving credit to your same-party opponent for a hard fought race is bowing and scraping. Funny how the definition of that term has shifted.

13. Divisive
She will make sure the almost 18 million who voted for her will never be invisible.... after noting that over 35 million democrats came out and voted...

She wants to hear from her supporters how much they want her to stay in the race- please go visit the website.

She had a unique moment to begin the healing but chose not to do so.

I had hoped that she would have exhibited style, grace and begin to unify her supporters at this very emotionally charged moment behind the nominee.

I have always expected better of Hillary then she was willing to put forward.

After awhile I barely listened as she did her usual "I" will make sure you get health care, jobs, etc.. The usual stump speech only she named all the issues this time. Someone should count the times she say "I". No class or respect for the process.

14. It was ungracious in failing to acknowledge Obama's win, grossly self-congratulatory, and delusional
in the suggestion that she won't be making any decisions yet (as if there was any decision left to her now that she strung this out to the end and the voters took her out of the equation kicking and screaming).

15. Start with the introduction
She was introduced as "the next POTUS" and, reading between the lines, it seemed to me that she was threatening to run her full-on campaign all the way to Denver, kneecapping Obama and deliberately sabotaging the GE.

I thought she was going to concede, I would have settled for a speech that was less triumphalist and more conciliatory.

17. It was less than graceful, imo....
Instead of encouraging her supporters to begin the journey to her concession she gave them false hope that, based on their support, she would make her decision. That was, flat out, wrong and corrosive in it's intent, imo.

I did not expect her to concede but I did expect her to begin to lay the foundation for such a move by helping her supporters to understand the inevitable conclusion.

Her speech was without grace.

There is a point in a peoples and nations life when it gives rise and birth to those BORN with a determined WILL to EXPRESS the GREATEST of a nation and people and INSPIRE them TO GREATEST. Such is the fiber of Obama. Americans are seeking and longing for the PERFECTION of our nation.

From my perspective, first as was mentioned, being introduced as Next President.

Then she was still playing the I'm the stronger candidate card, which again, plays right to McCain.

Then she played the 911 card again. These are the things I recall off the top of my head.

It is possible that I'm just really fed up and parsing this too much, but that's how I heard it.

I am, to borrow my favorite English expression, gob-smacked!

(edited to change "phrase" to "expression"...)

I think it is interesting that Hillary is still waiting for the 'catastrophic event' to hand her the nomination. She can not disengage herself from the race. Should the catastrophic event occur and she had bowed out of this race, she can not rely on the Democratic Party to choose her as it's nominee.
