4. Wasserman-Schultz is a U.S. Rep, not one of the state reps that voted on the early primary. n/t

2. I disagree.
I'm far from happy with her behavior this election season, but as a legislator, I don't have a single complaint about her.

Check out the link for her whole voting record. It's pretty outstanding.

14. I do understand the acrimony directed at Wasserman-Schultz...
I just don't think her behavior during the election cycle, when contrasted with her voting record as a legislator, warrants her being tossed out of Congress on her ear.

16. You might have her confused with Allen Boyd. She voted against it.
Edited on Wed Jun-04-08 01:21 PM by seasat
Here's the house vote on it. She's an average Democrat when it comes to supporting liberal issues. She scores from 90 to 100 percent with the ACLU and has high liberal rankings. While some of her rhetoric over Florida jumping ahead has been pretty bad and her refusal to help Democratic challengers against some of the incumbent S. FL Repub reps is a definite black mark, we have to take what we can get here in Florida.

I agree with Razor, that while she's disappointed during this campaign season,I wouldn't throw her out. We need to spend more of our efforts getting rid of Repubs here in Florida instead of taking down liberal Democrats.

21. "We need to spend more of our efforts getting rid of Repubs here in Florida"
Amen! Especially since all three South Florida Republican congresspeople face serious Democratic contenders in 2008. Dems in South Florida should forget about Wasserman-Schultz and start focusing on Annette Taddeo's race against Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Joe Garcia's race against Mario Diaz-Balart and Raul Martinez's race against Lincoln Diaz-Balart. There's a chance that all of South Florida could be turned blue in 2008, and that chance shouldn't be cast aside due to intraparty acrimony.

23. I'm aware of that, and like I said, I won't try to excuse that stupidity.
I'm just saying that Democrats' efforts in South Florida are better spent in the Taddeo, Garcia and Martinez campaigns than in picking off one of our own.

10. Here's why he said it....and she should be ashamed of selling her credibility
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0608/Congressional_Clinton_backers_mull_letter_to_Obama.html

"Members of Congress who support Clinton are weighing a joint letter to Senator Barack Obama pressing him to put Clinton on the ticket, a congressional aide confirmed.

Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz of Florida has suggested the letter, which would aim to represent the voices of female members of congress and those from swing states and key demographic groups.

The letter hasn't been drafted yet, though, and as with much of the day's vice presidential buzz, Clinton's supporters seem to be pressing ahead in the absence of clear direction from the candidate, who is meeting with her top advisors -- though not her husband --at her Arlington headquarters today.

"It’s still sort of in the premature stage of whether it’s going to happen or not," said John Bowman, Wasserman-Schultz's chief of staff. "She’s mentiond the idea but it hasn’t gone further."

It was bad enough when she said rules were unproductive.

28. Jack and Jill Blog: housecleaning in the Congressional Black Caucus:

Now That Obama Has Closed the Deal...

Jack and Jill Blog June 3, 2008

As being reported by the AP, my colleague, Jack Turner, has rightly pointed out, it's time to get down to business.

In the short time I've blogged here, I've read numerous comments about housecleaning in the Congressional Black Caucus. I recently posted about the CBC Monitor Report card, and we can always use some volunteers to track bills. More on that later.

...At this moment, we have a bunch of CBC Hanky Heads that are scrambling for cover, because they are hearing loudly from their districts; many of them that went overwhelmingly for Obama, while they were toting Missy Clinton's water. However, merely fielding challengers to the incumbents because they supported Clinton defeats the entire Democratic process, such as it is. There are other reasons for challenging them.

...
My friend, Kevin Powell, is trying to unseat Eldolphus Towns this year. When willing candidates with progressive records come forward and state they want to challenge the incumbents who have sat in Congress so long, their asses are glued to their offices, I say we hold fundraisers, canvass, pass out copies of the Report Card, so their constiuents get informed as to how well their interests have been represented.

One comment listed the following for primary challenges either in November or in 2010:

Stephanie Tubbs-Jones (Hanky Head)
Sheila Jackson-Lee (she's been banned from flying on American Airlines for acting a fool)
Kendrick Meek (he didn't learn jack from his mama)
Edolphus Towns
Artur Davis (DLC candidate recruiter)
Emmanuel Cleaver

Here's a few I want to add:

27. Ed is getting downright venomous and I can't listen to him any more.
Why would he want to get rid of a Democrat in Florida. We need to work more on getting rid of Republicans in Florida and every other state of the union. I guess he will want to get rid of any Dem who supported Senator Clinton. Get over it Ed. Obama is the nominee and yet Ed was still ranting and raving about Clinton today. I had to turn him off again. Just. Shut. The. F*ck. Up. Ed.

30. Count me in- she's my congressperson and it's time for us to run someone against her
Unfortunately, she's got a lot of supporters thanks to her high profile charade around "counting every vote" these past weeks. But for me she's a huge disappointment- not only did she ignore our calls about rigged machines and about impeachment, but she also refuses to campaign against the 3 Dade County GOP congresspersons (who are a nightmare) because she doesn't want to upset their good working relationship. Seems that being a Democrat only matters some of the time to her.

Then she topped it all off with her disgusting behavior during this primary nightmare- hiding behind the count every vote bullshit-- comparing this primary to what happened in 2000 - she needs to go. I'm ready to start seeking someone to replace her and to then work for them. Any ideas for those of you who are in our district?

why not sign on for Annette Taddeo's campaign in District 18? I'm sure she could use the help.

She's not in my district but she's running against a tough candidate (Eliana) and I know she will need as much help as she can get! :)

But we do need to find someone to run against Debbie next time. Enough is enough!
