The harder I think on it, the more I think Obama will pick a candidate who will compliment him.
Someone who will add even more energy to the ticket and continue the enthusiasm that's already defined the campaign.
Al Gore sunk himself w/ Joe in '00, and as much as there are huge numbers of Edwards supporters here, I don't know if Kerry really matched up w/ Edwards as a great ticket.
I was pretty young in '92, but even before Clinton picked Gore, I was hoping that he would.
I had a huge problem w/ Tipper Gore and the whole Washington Wives BS back in '85 with the PMRC, but I liked Gore. I knew he would compliment Clinton well and it felt like a great pick from the very beginning. It didn't feel right because Gore had 8 years in Congress, it felt good because they looked great together and they just complimented each other personality strengths well. I felt like it was a fantastic ticket.
I think that's what Obama needs to shoot for this time.
Now, if Gore would like to be VP again, then an Obama/Gore ticket would rock. Somehow, even in his older age, Gore has reinvented himself and an Obama/Gore is a one way ticket to the White House.
But, other than Gore coming onboard, I'm trying to do a gut check. Trying to put myself back in the state of mind I was at 23 years old in 1992.
I didn't watch CNN every night. There wasn't an Internet, and if there was I wouldn't have used it for political blogging.
I cared, I wanted to become engaged, and while I've never thought once about voting for a Rethug, I did think hard about what kind of team it would take to defeat "thousand points of light" Bush back in '92.
I know Obama has what it takes to win the White House, but he does need a VP candidate who compliments his appeal and makes for a great team.
When Obama made his speech on the night of the Virgina primary, Gov. Tim Kaine introduced Obama. Kaine was one of Obama earliest supporters. His introduction speech for Obama was fantastic and the enthusiasm was off the chart. It was no wonder Kaine won in red state Virgina to become the state's governor.
While we don't know who will be McSame's VP pick, I'm very confident that Gov. Tim Kaine could hold his own against anyone McSame would pit against him.
While his DNC response speech to Shrub's State of the Union a couple of year's back had a little to be desired (great content, but Kaine isn't very comfortable reading a prompter), I do think they would make a fantastic team.
This duo isn't being mentioned as much as Obama/Webb and others, but I think it's a winner.
