Wish I could have been there today, but a very important meeting at work kept me from going. I had tickets, but gave them to my mom & dad.

This is huge.

So it helps to put him right up front with this.

54. Nope.
Don't think so. I've started to see commercials for his Senate campaign. He's running for Senate, don't think he's interested in being VP yet..I think we might see him run for president in the future though.

If Governor Bredesen is either on the ticket or in the cabinet, that could propel Tennessee blue. Bredesen has the healthcare and business credentials, he would be a strong asset and could easily swing the state.

With the rest of us working hard, we will can accomplish this. The fundies are not enamored with McCain and many in East Tennessee are trending to the third parties from this demographic. We have a lot going for us, we can do it!

He's laying his healthcare plan out there, right now.

45. How was the crowd?
Big, small, receptive. The "word" is that Obama can't go near the Deep South or the Appalachians because he'll never get support there. If he is well received in Bristol that's great news.

Just picking this place at this time shows some special tactical skills. Thanks for the infoi.

47. It's a large crowd - very receptive
Edited on Thu Jun-05-08 11:50 AM by TornadoTN
It's a small auditorium, just a few hundred to a thousand or so - generally used for basketball games.

However, once this was announced yesterday - the tickets went out at 8:00AM. Word got out about it at 8:30, by 9:30 they were gone. They estimate to have turned away 2,500 to 3,000 people from 9:30 until 7 yesterday afternoon. They said the crowd outside was easily 1,000 people.

Oh, and the city of Bristol was having problems this morning with traffic control and public transportation. It was overwhelmed. This is coming from one of the cities that is used to huge swell of people in town from the NASCAR races in Bristol, TN twice a year.

benefit by using Obama to draw people. Let him have his own town hall meetings with all the old folks.

Amazing guy and a great family to boot. Always a smile on his face and the few times I met him, he would always be eager to share a story or some wisdom with me.

Brought a tear to my eye. As a white man in his 20's, I can only imagine how much pride this man felt as he walked up there to present his gift to Obama.

It should have but as soon as they panned to him, I recognized him immediately and was just overcome by the moment. That guy was on the front lines of the civil rights movement in this area and had to endure a lot of unspeakable things in this regions maturing process, where we finally started accepting people of all races and creeds. We have a long way to go still, but I am confident we have crossed a corner.
