3. Too conservative. We need a liberal to offset Obama's Centrist record or a military person...
Edited on Thu Jun-05-08 11:56 AM by onehandle
...to offset Grandpa Simpson's military history.

Or both. That would be Clark. More liberal than most. More four star General than anybody.

4. Good luck telling the public that Obama is a centrist. Obama's VP will be to the right of him

6. The GOP will cast Obama as a Liberal, but the base knows better.
Edited on Thu Jun-05-08 11:59 AM by onehandle
The VP may seem to the right of Obama, but there's nothing wrong with that to appeal to moderates.

Sam Nunn Reconsiders DADT: ‘Times Change,’ May Be ‘Appropriate’ To Lift The Ban On Gays In The Military»

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/06/03/sam-nunn-dadt/

"I think 15 years go by on any personnel policy, it’s appropriate to take another look at it — see how it’s working, ask the hard questions, hear from the military. Start with a Pentagon study,” Nunn said. <…>

I think he's trying to clean up his image and fix his faux paus

2. Schweitzer --
The more I look at him, the more perfect he appears to be for this spot. And he would attract voters from some of the areas Obama has struggled with. He's about as far from 'elite' as you can get.

5. And he doesn't take shit
He's plain spoken and gets right to the point. Even better, he's an environmentalist who is cares about the climate crisis.

7. Clark
I've been voting Biden on other DU polls that don't have a Clark option, but Clark is my first choice and Biden my second.

9. Phil Bredesen (D-TN)
Edited on Thu Jun-05-08 12:02 PM by TornadoTN
I've put it in several other places, but the guy is a healthcare guru, efficient businessman, and moderate on wedge issues like gun control. He's also strong on the environment and is a true Washington outsider.

He's a dark horse, but has some serious draw. Won reelection by almost 70% and carried each county in the state.

27. Healthcare guru?
Don't get me wrong... I like our governor, but his TennCare cuts literally obliterated my mother. My parents were on sliding-fee TennCare since they were offered insurance at work and Mom has pre-existing conditions.

My step-Dad got ill shortly after they were cut off from TennCare and died in two days time. Boom. Just like that.

Mom was left with nothing.

Luckily, most of the doctors waived their fees and a hospital charity picked up most of the life-support tab, but she is still without insurance and cannot get anything until she gets old enough for Medicare, which is another five years.

11. Glad you had my pick in the poll! Bill Richardson...
... will balance the ticket marvelously, IMHO. He has enough charm and charisma to not look too stodgy next to Obama, he has a great deal of foreign policy experience (and his foreign policy experience was actually involved in negotiating, making friends, etc, instead of making war), he will bring more Latinos to the polls, and he's a great debater.

20. Why is it always a rumor instead of something concrete?
And whatever it is, why would it not have come out when Richardson was conducting his own Presidential campaign?

21. It is rumor and Bill has said he passed vetting as Kerry's potential running mate
Edited on Thu Jun-05-08 02:06 PM by featherman
But the rumor is out there and easily googled. Here is one link:

I will say that I have met Bill R. and am a fan. If there is nothing to this and some other stuff that is less public it would be great

16. Will there be backlash from Hillary supporters if Richardson is chosen
I think that's an honest question that needs to be asked. Hillary needs to retract the Judas thing in my opinion.
