Disagreement does not preclude civility. Civility does not preclude disagreement
Edited on Thu Jun-05-08 01:50 PM by LanternWaste
My third (and most likely last) OP in GDP...

Are you concerned with party unity? Are you apprehensive about the bitter in-fighting? Would you like to see it stop?

(Grumbled and sheepish responses of "yes...", "I guess so", and "well-- it *is* past time....")

Are you sure? Are you positive?

Because I have an idea to get the ball rolling. I think it's a good one, but it may be rather difficult unless there's a modicum support for it. You may not like it. You may not be capable of it (but I honestly have faith in you and think that you can if you try hard enough).

Here goes...

Be civil to each other. The Party Unity whose absence we've been long blaming on "them" can start here. It's as much our responsibility as it is "theirs" (you know-- 'them', the Democrats and progressives you tell to "fuck off" because they didn't support your candidate).

It can start here. With us. Today, if you want. It's just as much our responsibility as it is anyone else's.

As I see it, it's just a simple matter of being respectful to each other. A simple matter of being courteous to our fellow progressives. Disagreement does not deny civility. Civility does not preclude disagreement. From where I sit, the hardest thing about this tactic would be just to turn the other cheek.

So for those of us who are tired of the bitterness, the rancor, the clever back-handed compliments, the only thing it would take is for us to be polite to each other.

That's all there is to it! No monthly payments, no side-effects, no rashes, burns, lesions, hair-loss, nausea, vomiting or excessive diarrhea.

Just. Be Nice. Although it may not be as fun, it is a telling barometer of who we are as a party, and who we are as individuals.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled Oneupmanship. :hi:
