Poll question: So, how'd that 3-thread limit work out? You wanna keep it for the new forum?
A reminder of the situation just before the 3-thread limit was instituted (some of those posting a lot of threads have since been TS'd, but not nearly all):

15+ threads: 3 users
10-14 threads: 7 users
8-9 threads: 7 users
6-7 threads: 10 users
5 threads: 15 users
4 threads: 29 users
3 threads: 39 users
2 threads: 105 users
1 thread: 261 users

5.7% of users accounted for 25.5% of new posts (6 posts or more per user)
14.9% of users accounted for 43.8% of new posts (4 posts or more per user)

(Numbers on February 9, same day as Washington State Caucus, 4 days after Super Tuesday)

You can't be "series."

You had 7 on that day... I think 4 would be better, personally.

5. Started In The New GE Forum
Doesn't keep you from posting to other people's threads. Doesn't limit your starting new threads in other forums.

I think it's fair. Sometimes the most prolific are a little too prolific.

6. People with (large) Ignore Lists should not be permitted to start new threads
The number of duplicate ("provocative") threads is a plague in the major forums of DU ... and it has gott3en worse by an order of magnitude since the "Ignore" function was created. If you're not willing to SEE all the threads, don't go on a Vanity Jihad starting a new thread with every brainfart.

Just imho, of course.

7. Good point.
I would just as soon see the ignore feature dropped. I don't use it and don't think it's conducive to building a community to have people creating their own little private echo chambers.

8. Perhaps they could reduce the number you can ignore
Edited on Thu Jun-05-08 11:27 PM by FlyingSquirrel
I mean, I've heard people brag about having 200+ people on ignore? What's the point of even coming here in that case? Plus, doesn't that use a lot of bandwidth or something?

Maybe 50 people at the most. Still, I don't think there'll be that many large ignore lists now - after all, the worst is over. The type of person you'll want to ignore now will be TS'd in short order anyway.

10. Somewhere in the deep, dark recesses of DU software ...
... is a tally of the number of Ignore Lists on which each DUer is listed. It'd be interesting ... to say the least.

11. I didn't like it.
Because after I wasted my posts on trivial crap, when I finally felt like I had something useful to say, I was notified that I would not be able to post it until 10:16 tomorrow or some crap. It sucked!

16. How 'bout give the mods the ability to impose a limit if people misbehave?
Say, you post a couple flamebait threads and you get a 24-hour cooling-off period from OPs...

18. The "Proud2BAmurkin" rule is effective in moderating spammers.
If we actually gel to attack the Repubs, a few more posts may be OK.

19. For the most part my posts are replies
So the thread limit did not really effect me. I was in favor of the limit when it was instituted, but I was hoping people would stop the repetitive threads knowing they had a limit. There tends to be some "pointless topic of the day", and what it seemed like is everyone would use 1 of their 3 posts on the pointless topic, and would only personalize the other 2 at most. Effectively we saw no reduction in number of pointless threads and a modest decrease in the overall diversity of the threads.

20. No, the thread limit served it's purpose.
Edited on Fri Jun-06-08 12:13 PM by backscatter712
GD-P was guaranteed to be a flamefest, due to the contention between the candidates' supporters.

For GD-GE, we're all supporting the nominee, and the opposition (mostly freepers who support McCain) gets tombstones. There should be no need for thread limits.

21. The three thread limit was needed in GD-P, but NOT in GE
Because of the flame wars going on in GD-P, the limit was needed. I would assume that there would be few, if any, flame wars in GE. So why have a limit?
