Will the Reverend Wright Hour keep its ratings up through November?
I haven't seen the recent ratings for Fox's Reverend Wright Hour (formally titled, "Hannity and Colmes"), but I'm guessing its ratings are still there, or we'd have heard something. Just for pure social research insight, I'm just wondering if an hour-long show can last for 12 months repeating Reverend Wright, William Ayers and Father Fledger videos. Its sort of amazing to me that its gone on this long.

I mean, how much could they possibly discuss that's new? I suppose they could bring in the broken Hammer's "Obama is a Marxist" meme, and possibly restring up the Muslim thing every episode or two.

But honestly, even if you believed this shit, how on earth could you watch the same nightly repeat for 12 months???

1. It's preaching to the choir
their viewers eat it up like the Bush bashing that goes on here.

4. This would be like a Gilligan's Island fan watching the same episode every night...
Then again, I suppose a Gilligan's Island fan does...every episode they have a plan for getting off the Island, and then Gilligan fucks it up. Personally, I'da fed him to the headhunters in season one.

So um, does this mean Reverend Wright Hour fans have the intellectual chops of those who love Gilligan's Island?

2. Is it really an issue anymore? The fact Obama has opened up an 8-point lead on McCain says it's not.

6. What in the world are you talking about?
We're not allowed to bash Fox idiocy here on DU???? How exactly does this qualify as a "concern troll"?

7. If I misunderstood I'm sorry
It just looked like you were taking an opportunity to stir up these things about Obama.

8. I could give a shit about Reverend Wright...I was more interested in how a show like that...
could get ratings by spouting the exact same shit EVERY night. Whether or not someone believed what Hannity was saying, how could they possibly stand hearing the exact. same. discussion. Every night.

That was my question.

9. It won't matter. Wright is on the "side track". His sermons are
irrelevant to Obama's candidacy.

10. I like Rev. Wright. I know a lot of people who are Dems who like him.
I think we should stop apologizing for him.

11. wouldn't it be great...
if truth were allowed in American politics? It's fortuitous that Wright is an angry black man, but I wonder how it would sell if he were an angry white man? Probably be a non-starter. People might actually hear something.

12. "how on earth could you watch the same nightly repeat for 12 months???"
Answer is: You most likely cannot!

My father is a Republican who LOVED watching FOX News. Whenever I talk to him nowadays, he sounds so depressed over the election. He's even tired of the Pastorbating and can't even watch anymore. I managed to bring him to agreement on a point about these pastors in the news: they're ALL crazy, on both sides. ;)

I also managed to surprise him concerning Fr. Pfleger. When he asked me, "Did you see this new preacher in the news?" I told him, "Oh, I remember him... a year or so ago he put up billboards in Chicago with a list of ten rappers' names and something like 'Stop listening to trash!' on them." He seemed genuinely surprised... like I'd added another dimension he'd never considered to this one-dimensional, biased caricature he saw on FOX News. Sometimes you have to work with what you know you can, you know? I'm working on him very slowly and carefully. He didn't like anyone in the race except for Giuliani (fellow New Yorker) and after he was gone, he totally lost all enthusiasm because nobody else appealed to him.

He thinks Huckabee and McCain are both crazy.

So to answer your question, if my father, faithful Rush listener from way back, Hannity-lover and FOX watcher can be so tired of the pastor scandals and disheartened about the election, I am willing to bet he's FAR from the only one out there. FOX is really screwing themselves by hammering this story so much. There's only so much people can hear the same thing over and over and not want to tune out after a while.

16. This is the answer I was hoping to hear. Hoo-raaaaah!!!

I agree - I'm guessing all this stuff eventually just saps their enthusiasm for politics in general. If McCain's big "hope" for getting elected is showing nightly Wright reruns, this pretty much says they have NO enthusiasm for their own candidate.

My guess is regardless what the polls show, Dem turnout will be sky high and Repub turnout will be through the floor.

17. Yep, exactly.
Another Republican friend of mine here in Texas, proud Bush voter in 2000 and maybe in 2004 (I didn't even ask) asked me my opinion of what was going on with the election. I laid it all out and found he seems very disillusioned as well, and was told that he wishes the media would get to REAL issues and not the tabloidish crap they've been focused on. This is why I have hope. :D
