Absolute fucking insanity: McCain campaign claims Obama would be a third term for Bush.
Edited on Sun Jun-08-08 06:23 PM by Occam Bandage
Apparently the McCain campaign is feeling the sting of comparisons to George Bush. McCain describes himself as the strongest support of the war in Iraq. His answer to $4.00 gasoline is to cut oil company taxes by $4 billion a year. And McCain has embraced a Bush proposal to radically change our health care system. (These and other similarities are described in a memorandum released today by the Center for American Progress Action Fund.)

Swimming upstream, McCain policy advisor Douglas Holtz-Eakin now argues that it is Senator Obama – not McCain – who wants to continue Bush’s fiscal policies. Obama’s budget “is dedicated to the recent Bush tradition of spending money on everything,”

http://thinkprogress.org/wonkroom/2008/06/06/dhe-obama-bush-term/

But even conservatives aren’t taking the bait on the new talking point. Reacting to Holtz-Eakin’s interview, conservative pundit Robert Novak said on Bloomberg TV:

That is the silliest thing I have ever heard! And I won’t even dignify how stupid it is.
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/06/08/novak-rips-holtz-eakin/

...seriously, what? Will their next claim be, "Obama is unelectable because he's a half-senile elderly man with a history of cancer?"

7. They need to get a bag o' shrooms, a handle of Wild Turkey and some Jack in the Box tacos.
They need to polish the above list off and then write down what ever comes naturally.

That sounds like a winning strategy.

23. The beauty of it all is that McCain is screwed and he knows it.
He can't win without the 28% that still loves Bush.
He can't win without indies and Dems that HATE Bush.
If he is positive about Bush's legacy, he'll lose the indies and Dems.
If he is negative about Bush's legacy, he'll lose the 28% crowd.
He has to try desparately to straddle the line between the two, embracing Bush and distancing himself from him at the same time. Therefore, he has to be a different John McCain everytime he opens his mouth!

McCain is now a modern-day Goldilocks (or lack thereof, as the case may be) who is desperately trying to find the campaign porridge that is not too hot, and not too cold - and doesn't yet understand that there is no "just right" available as an option.

45. The beauty of this race is that Obama doesn't have McCain's problem.
He doesn't NEED the 28% crowd to win. All he needs to do is keep pushing the '3rd Bush term' line, and while McCain struggles to stay on message, Obama will coast to a comfortable win in the General Election.

37. It's the standard Republican Pee-Wee Herman strategy
If your opponent hits you with your greatest weakness (in this case, the ties to a deeply unpopular president), just hit back with "I know you are, but what am I?"

McCain's a loner, Dottie. A rebel.

25. This is a new strategy.
I was clicking through the cable the other night and happened to pick up on a talking heads segment on FOX news. They were discussing and lamenting how the Democratic Congress was driving up oil and pharma prices by being so in-bed with the oil and pharmacy lobbies. Three or four of them just sitting there and shaking their heads about the Democratic Congress' big business ties and how the Democratic party was hurting the little guy to the advantage of big oil and big pharma. There are snakes pouring oil everywhere. Someone is going to light it at some point but I can't tell which party will burn.

62. It is no different than portraying a genuine war hero (Kerry) as a
coward while presenting a cowardly AWOL chickenhawk as a hero.

They have succeeded in persuading the American people of such absolute nonsense before. And don't forget, they will have the help of the corporate media to push this crap. If the corporate media can successfuly portray McSame as an independent, moderate maverick (and they do), then they can also get the American public to believe that all the crimes and incompetence of the Republican reign have actually been committed by Democrats.

No one believed they could do what they did to Kerry, either, or that they could sell GWB to the public, and yet they did.

You've got it all wrong. This is fucking BRILLIANT on the part of the McCain Campaign. This is the time of the electoral season when you're trying to define your opponent -- so what better way to do it than to define your opponent as the least popular candidate in the race. I mean, if Karl Rove has ever done acid, this is something that would have come right out of playbook. Along with the lyrics to "Yellow Submarine."
