I hereby convert to Obama
I thought that perhaps I would hate our nominee due to the
way hillary was treated here at DU.

but after much reflection, I can support him in the general.

I apologize for much of what I have said in the primary.

The goal is a democrat in the white house in 2009. All we differed on is which democrat.

25. Is that the number of Obama supporters who
need to get real?

Democrats are ALREADY on board. The ship is sailing. Are you auditioning for cruise ship welcome committee? if so...back to training.

Actually - I just saw the brilliant movie "Up the Yangtze". Has a lot of shipboard entertainment. Absolutely marvellous film.

16. She Would Have Made A Good President
But, she is very polarizing, and this would have energized Republicans and some Independents to come out and vote. I was for Biden at first, as he has a lot of experience PLUS good judgement, but he lacks the charisma of Obama, who makes up for lack of experience with extremely good judgement, and great oratorical skills.. Lots of experience does not necessarily mean having good judgement, for example, Cheney and Rumsfeld. Bush is an example of someone who lacked both.

united the country like no one else could have.

23. I am a religious person but I don't like that word being used...
to describe politicians. Seems to me that people have gotten way too wrapped up in supporting the people rather than the ideas held by those people. I'm pretty cynical myself. I support Obama but you'd never see me at a rally chanting the kind of ridiculous crap that his supporters and Hillary's supporters chant at their rallies.

35. People are only as good as their ideas combined with their character.
I'm not big on politician-worship either, but I sense a difference when people at a rally chant, "Yes, we can!" When large groups of people gather with a common goal and internalize a sense of their own empowerment, it's all good.

If a leader inspires, that's a good thing. But the idea that a leader has to inspire with charm and personality is not such a good thing. Being inspired by words is good, because words represent ideas, plans and goals. Being inspired by who you want to have a beer with is not good. That kind of inspiration, can lead to bad choices (case in point: George W. Bush, although I'd personally never want to have a beer with the dope).

Don't get me wrong, people need believe in heroes, especially if those heroes inspire them to take action to make the world a better place. And yes, I'd rather see people admiring a political leader (for a change) than wasting valuable brain-time contemplating the airhead celebrity of the moment.

My four criteria in choosing a leader is that they have good ideas and positions on the issues, integrity (you have to believe they mean what they say), capability (ability to turn ideas into outcomes) and the ability to inspire others to join in the process.

There were times when the competitive aspects of this primary seemed more important than the issues. In many ways it reminded me of football fans at Super Bowl time. All that was missing was the face and body painting.

27. Precisely.
There should be no conversion necessary. I said this in my other post and I'll say it again. Some supporters of these two candidates take their support TOO far, into the realm of worship. I would never be caught dead at a political rally chanting ridiculous crap like "O-BAMA" or "HILL-ARY" or "YES WE CAN" or "YES WE WILL" or whatever other cult-like crap they've been using at these campaign rallies. But then again, maybe I'm just cynical and choose to take a little more skeptical approach to politics.

30. The chanting
is nothing more than what opposing sports teams do. Revs up the supporters and shows enthusiasm. Not like a cult, IMO. BTW, I'm not a chanter or a screamer either. I'm the one who gets annoyed at screams and chanters because I can't hear what's being said.
