How with a few minutes in each post, you can help defeat John McCain

Chris Bowers over at Open Left has started a program that we all should participate in. His program has probably been posted before but it deserves reposting several times until most of us participate in it.

Bowers came up with the idea of search engine optimization to get the most revealing articles about John McCain as the most popular items on any search. What he proposes is that each time you post on any forum or in your own blog, you link the names, "John McCain" or "McCain" to one of nine specific news stories that mention one of McCain's policies. The link needs to be coordinated to go to one of nine specific URLS so that these stories will move up in search engine ranking. In other words, follow his blog's directions on it and don't add your own articles. It also means that you need to refer to John McCain as "John McCain" or "McCain" since those are the words that most people looking for information on a candidate will enter in the search engine. Don't use McSame, McHundred, McBush, or crazy ass warmonger when referring to John McCain even though those are probably more appropriate names.

Searching For John McCain: Week Two

He came up with a campaign to link Repub candidates to their most negative news articles. It was moderately successful. If we can get a number of people linking to these articles here at the DU, it'd really raise awareness of http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002216444_bush23.html">McCain's real platform that is in opposition to what a large majority of voters support.

There is a thing known as over optimization, especially with Google.

If all incoming links have the same anchor text, some of them will be disregarded in order to prevent Google bombing. (Like when you search for "miserable failure" and get George Bush sites.) So, it's probably best for everyone to come up with their own relevant anchor text to avoid too many similarities.

Also keep in mind that the text immediately before and after a link carries weight as well. I added one of the links in my signature below.

I didn't think I could add it to my signature since the code allowing embedded links isn't allowed in them. I've updated my signature to add a link to it too.

If you go the links in my OP, they mention putting it in a signature file along with some text that refers to http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002216444_bush23.htmlJohn McCain>. DU does not allow hyper link code in the signature file. However, you can paste the entire URL in it and add text proceeding it. I suspect that it will work about the same as a hyper link to his name but I'm not sure.
