More McCain insanity: Claims he "didn't say" pro-Clinton remarks in last week's speech.
Edited on Tue Jun-10-08 10:30 AM by Occam Bandage
John McCain on Tuesday:

Senator Clinton has earned great respect for her tenacity and courage. The media often overlooked how compassionately she spoke to the concerns and dreams of millions of Americans, and she deserves a lot more appreciation than she sometimes received.

John McCain on Friday (after being asked about the above comment):

I did not (say that)—that was in prepared remarks, and I did not (say it)—I’m not in the business of commenting on the press and their coverage or not coverage … My supporters and friends can comment all they want about the press coverage, and that’s their right. They’re American citizens. I will not because I believe it’s not a profitable enterprise for me to do so. I can’t change any of the coverage that I know of except to just campaign as hard as I can and try to seek the approval of the majority of my fellow citizens.

A question I'm asking myself more and more often about the Straight Talk Express: is he lying, or is he just senile?

1. More importantly, is this the man America wants in charge of our nuclear arsenal?
Kinda scary, isn't it?

He draws a distinction between prepared and spontaneous remarks? He doesn't consider himself responsible for the prepared remarks he makes because someone ELSE wrote them?

rocknation
:wow:

4. If he's stumbling over the words, he's making prepared remarks; this morning,
he promised to "veto any beer" that doesn't meet with his approval. I assume that means it has to mena an Anheiser-Bucsh.

If he's not stumbling over the words, he's gigling nervously because he either is lying or not sure he's saying what he's supposed to.

I'm a wayback Arizonan; he's been like this for years.

5. "that was in prepared remarks" - and that must not be "saying" it
I cannot believe he said "that was in prepared remarks."

He said it as if that was disclaiming such remarks.

9. That's like when he kept denying he said he didn't know much about the economy
until Tim Russert confronted him with the evidence on MTP.

8. Re: your closing question: He's never faced a political challenge.
He's never had any real opposition for office. His campaign staff consists of lobbyists, local old boy biz/media/RNC types and in this area, that's more than enough.

He's not lying, he's not quite senile, he just doesn't know how to come across as genuine. He's gotten by with saying what he needs to say--how else to explain the "maverick" thing when he's consistently voted the RNC line since day 1?

If the media would for a moment realize that the guy is volatile and they could be blessed with spectacular ratings if they catch him melting down, he won't stand a chance. He can't handle the semi-tough press in AZ and they are pussycats for the most part.

He also has no cognizance of the power of the internet. He still thinks he can get away with saying one thing and actually doing another (again, the "maverick" MYTH).

I can't stress this point enough. He's got no campaign chops and he's ever on the brink of losing his grip (so say friends of mine in local media who've covered him).
