...who happens to be my favorite. Biden is up there on my personal list as well -- behind Schweitzer.

If you want a military man why not pick Clark?

He has executive as well as military experience and he is not a politician.

among other things.

Webb has executive experience as does Clark and he is no more a politician than is Clark - the fact that he has actually competed in and won a popular election notwithstanding.

Not to conjure up old wounds but I lost a bit of respect for Clark when he latched onto the Hillary-wagon last year.

Look at the focus on Obama's VP-committee guy, Obama's preacher, Obama's church's GUEST preacher--there is an intense GOP/media operation underway to tie him to anything questionable that anyone associated with him has ever said or done. Whomever Obama chooses will have to be squeaky-clean and gaffe-less.

General Clark is head and shoulders above any Republicant McSame can pick...

I think outside the box - someone of whom the media is not talking (too much) about - would be more in keeping with his goals.

Clark has unquestionable foreign policy and diplomacy experience.

Sebelius has administrative skills and a proven record for winning in a red state, even with a solidly Democratic platform. She also gives us Kansas.

Webb brings military gravitas both as a vet and as the proponent of the new GI bill, which McCain still opposes, as well as bringing Virginia with him, and reaching out to the disaffected Republicans.

What people don't seem to get is that it doesn't matter one little bit. Obama runs a bigger game than that, he has no need to pick a VP based on one state maybe flipping, he'll look for someone to move the numbers in EVERY state. I think Sebelius can do that.

Even without a VP pick. So my thinking is that yeah, Sebelius can deliver Kansas, if it doesn't flip on its own before we have a VP candidate.

Turnout is our friend this year.

Until then I'm considering it an outlier.

Main point being though: don't care if Sebelius delivers Kansas or not, would want her on the ticket anyway for the other benefits she brings.

Delivery of Missouri would be super, super good, plus she's gotta have enough popularity to tip Ohio too, right?

I'm still pulling for Mark Warner, though. I think he's what we need at the bottom of the ticket.

I think that Obama needs to choose someone who at the very least has a strong relationship with feminists. I think that leaves Clark in the running. Takes Webb out. Possibly Biden stays in.
Sebelius comes out on top.

No matter how I try to puzzle it out, I'm left with the conclusion that I'll be at least mildly surprised ... and the odds are about 2-to-1 that it'll be a pleasant surprise instead of an unpleasant one. At the same time, it's likely I'll go "Oh! Well that makes sense! D'oh!"

and definitely not a General; he'll save that for the cabinet.

The contenders: Sebelius, Schweitzer, Richardson and Kaine.

I've come to expect the unexpected from Obama. I like that about him. And it keeps the repukes off-balance.

1. A Southerner or Westerner or South westerner or border stater

2. Someone with a strong foreign policy and national security C.V.

3. Someone who has particular appeal in rural areas, small towns, mid size cities and outer suburbs

4. Someone from a swing-state

5. Could possibly be a woman

Anyone who does not fulfill at least three of these requirements is unlikely to be considered as a plausible V.P. candidate.

Richardson's name is mentioned frequently, but I think strategist would hesitate to support a hispanic on a ticket led by an African-American - thinking it may weaken the ability of many working class white voters to identify with the ticket.

Webb has some baggage and can be a little bit rough around the edges, but over all he appears to meet the criteria better than any other potential Vice Presidential possibilities frequently mentioned. And he would have a good chance of helping put Virginia into the Democratic column.

If you look at the county maps for almost all of the primaries, Obama was way strong in urban areas and weak in the areas you mention. And that's among Democrats. Throw in the indies and Republicans for the GE, who already outnumber us in rural areas, and he's got a potential problem.

One and four - depends on his strategy. Will he go for the west to offset losing Florida and possibly Ohio? Or will he pick someone from a large swing state? We can talk about the fifty state strategy, but it's still going to come down to the usual battleground states, and having one in your pocket because of your VP pick is nothing to sneer at.

I don't think five is that important, myself. It could even backfire if it's seen by Hillary supporters as a sop.
